Here Irving Kaufman makes it all about himself! And rightfully so as he gives us his rendition of the Irving Berlin composition "ME"! The flip side of my last upload "Sweet & Lovely", I hope you will enjoy this GEM also found on Crown 3217!

It is a blessing, of sorts, that Irving was able to tone the brass down in 30's and not destroy as many records as he did in the 20s. If this is damning with faint praise, it's the best I can do for the man who, in his own way, gave an impression of the 1920s as much as Scrappy Lambert, Chick Bullock, Smith Ballew, Franklin Bauer, Frank Munn, Henry Burr and others. 🔵👹🐸🦖🫏

Thanks! I find Irvings records from the 1920's more fun records, But here He mixes fun with a delightful vocal, I wonder what his 1920's recordings would have sounded like if he did sing more like this instead, But I LOVE the fella!

This is one of Irving Kaufman's best recordings. The electrical process of recording did a lot for him. I believe he got his break in recording when he started with Vocalion in 1923. This recording was at the end of his prime recording days. The smoother sounds of Bing Crosby and Will Osborne, among others, were making him part of a glorious yesterday.

Roybo1930, this is another offering that has made me a loyal listener to your channel. You never cease to amaze us with these “gems”. In the past, Irving Kaufman vocals seemed to me as a fellow screaming into 20’s recording horns with renditions worthy of vaudeville stages. With your presentations of his early 30’s side has changed my perception. I look upon him now with greater enjoyment! These Homestead sides have been enlightening. Thank You so much! I sure wonder what could have been if Irving did a large number of standards like this in the 1930s! I have one I am just about to get ready to upload after a slight bit of cleaning! It is a Crown issue as well, but on an orange shellac Summit record from Australia "HOME"! Man, this record is hard to track. Several online resources don't have any record for this or Sweet and Lovely. Seems to have been recorded sometime in September 1931. But this must be quite a rare record, what a find!
