One of the BEST shows ever; great host to fix these problems. I admire these construction experts who do such super work as well as builders, contractors, and so on. How are some people soooo shallow and greedy as to leave homeowners with shoddy unfinished work they promised to complete?
@144Jacob8 жыл бұрын
That's a shame that there are some messed up contractors. Invite these people to come in your home and trust that they are going to do the work that they say they are going to do and they mess up your house. Nice to have these people come in and fix your home. What a blessing.

We had the same thing happen to us. We ended up with black mold and a hole 4 ft wide in the middle of our living room. We had to let the house go into foreclosure and are just now building our credit from it, that was 5 years ago. The construction company went under and we were out everything. Glad y'all got your house fixed the right way.

This is why I do all my own work on my house, I don't trust anyone else to do it right. The one's who are sure to do it right would be very expensive, too.

Great episode-- I learned a lot. Can homeowners ever sue contractors for shoddy or dangerous work?? It doesn't seem fair if they get paid and don't have consequences.
@JeffSheinNY7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the positive comment! Yes home owners can definitely sue, unfortunately sometimes its not worth it as it is expensive and time consuming. Other times the contractor is nowhere to be found. Thats why you need to do your research and background checks before hiring them. Lesson learned by us.

I wish they realised there was something wrong at the start when they renovated the house. but at least someone is helping them renovate again.

This is why I dread trying to get anyone to do work on my house. When you finally find someone with a good reputation they're too busy to take on more work. We've never been able to make our house our's because of previous owner's remodel being done shoddy and pretty sure a lot was cosmetic quick fixes that are starting to peel away.

Sorry the original contract was abysmal but the work this guy did to rectify the trusses is far from being correct and still is in a situation where failure may occur. Seems American building is far from a safe activity as there are no control points throughout the process where relevant inspections by authorities or engineers are made. Fact once you cut a truss its a throwaway item, to simply nail a 100x50 or as the yanks so incorrectly call it 2x4 when it is a 4x2, you have taken it from relying on a graded section of timber to the friction resistance of several nails in softwood, that's insane. Made it look pretty yes, fixed cosmetic issues yes, some of the structural issues yes but the roof sorry that's a failure still. Note to builder the top chord was cut out not the webbing.
