The smartphone adapter works out very well and best yet: the night mode of the iphone allows you to observe the objects on screen.
This way I can show you how well the AutoStar (nowadays the AudioStar) of Meade works and how spot-on it is, when the telescope has been aligned properly (check out Part 2 of this series - link in the description below).
So enjoy some insights into nebulae, star clusters and using the red dot finder to observe wildlife. Those images are a little faint, because the video is not that great in twilight conditions.
A similar adapter from amazon:

I have a ETX125 that is a year 2000 vintage. The focus is so coarse that it is hard to get a focus on Jupiter and the image dances in the field while doing so. Also, touching the adjustment induces vibration even after securing the tripod. Do you think this is a characteristic of the scope or is servicing needed? Thanks

Definitely servicing… that’s not normal!

Hello! I just found one ETX 1250mm from my grandfather, i tought i could only see the moon with it, i have an adapter for my dslr, should i get an adapter for my iphone? Didn’t know you could see nebulas or other planets in it. Thanks for sparking the desire to study more around it! Also it is forming some mold(?) on the inside, is that repairable?

Is the „mold“ on between the lense and the fixing of the secondary (small) mirror? If so, don’t worry about it - I had the same. And as long as you can see nebulae and everything else, go easy on repairs because a MAK can only be fixed by a professional and that is extremely expensive! And for the iPhone: yes! Get a decent adapter because you get a lot out of it - especially with the newer versions 11 and up with very little hassle. Enjoy! 😀

@@agermangineer hello, i think it seems to be on the front only, seems like no big deal, i seen some black spots photographing with it at day so i guess it is kinda dirty too, it doesnt have the front cover. will look up if i can clean it a bit just on the outside, i will give it a sun bath too as that seems to help with the mold! i had a star tracker with it but i think i broke it when i was a kid, maybe i can repair that in the future!. i think i moved it by hand idk, now i guess im using a normal tripod :) i will keep checking out your channel! thanks mate!

I’ve got a 26 mm eyepiece for my ETX 125. What other eyepieces do you recommend?
@agermangineer
@agermangineer 4 жыл бұрын
Good question... for maximum magnification a 13 mm eyepiece with a very, very high angle and for more overall spotting and daytime observations something around 32 mm.

Scott Sattler MD FACS thank you!!! Well, just the basic Apple camera app. That’s it... I did purchase the NightCap app for a few bucks several months ago, but haven’t really gotten around yet to put it to the test, though I hear and see good things about it....

How do you zoom that well? I have a million questions to ask you actually, so if you have facebook I can maybe ask them on messenger? Your videos are amazing! I have a 26mm eyepiece yet I cannot zoom with it like you can.

Muhammad2forever hi again! :-) The zooming here just comes from the iPhone!! Looks cool, huh!? 😃 Sorry I only use KZbin, no other social media. Bust ask as much as you like. Always glad to be able to help if I can.

@@agermangineer hi! Thanks for your kind and detailed replies!! I'm new to the ETX125 GoTo and its my first telescope. I steer is myself because I didnt know how to align and use the controller, but after your video i do! I asked for facebook or anything else so I could send you pictures of what I can see and maybe you could give me links for good eyepieces to see: Planets bigger and clearer, with more color and details Deep sky space stuff like superclusters of nebulae. Thanks a lot! This night (3.30 am) I saw Saturn and Jupiter for the first time! It was so cool! Tho I cannot see any of them detailed. Jupiter was a bright circle and saturn was a planet with an unclear ring. Again, their appearance was only a bit bigger than a star. Altho it was kinda bright so I guess thats why i couldn't see details :( I wish to see beautiful sights like the Orion Nebulae or whatever its called, you know the one that is at the left star of the 3 on the orion belt. I also would like to see the place that looks like "Karls vognen" (I know ur german, so you probably know what i mean hahaha) but you know the small version of Karls wagon, its like 4 stars in a square and an additional star on the top left and the stars are placed really close. Thanks a lot for taking your time to read this! If you can I would be so happy for a lot of tips for: Seeing planets and what eyepieces to use If I should use any lens (infrared, UV) and if i should put it on my phone camera or my telescope How to see deep sky objects clearer Thanks!!!😁

@@agermangineer what I meant with donut shape is if you zoom a bunch (adjust the scope) it will become a donut shape. You know so if u look at a thing that is up close u can adjust it so it isnt blurry and if u look at a far star u adjust it so it isnt unclear

Muhammad2forever seems to me like you’re gonna do just fine! This hobby involves a lot of learning by doing and since you already caught Saturn and Jupiter I’d say you are on a good pathway already! As for eyepieces... the smaller the number, the higher the magnification. But at the same time, the higher the “distortion”. My biggest eyepiece is a 13 mm Baader Hyperion; giving 150 times magnification (See part one of my ETX series) but it only works in very clear conditions. Usually I stick with the 32 mm, giving me only 60 times magnification, but one heck of a sharp image. Going as low as 10 mm or even 8 mm would be extreme. However feasible perhaps in a desert with absolutely nothing fogging or dusting up the sky.... but... let’s be serious. :-) The Orion nebulae is basically off for the summer... come October you’ll be able to see that again; unless you’re in the Southern Hemisphere... the Orion Nebula is really the icing on the cake when it comes to working with these 5” Mak-scopes!! So have fun with that!! :-)

@@agermangineer sounds good mate! So to get this right, a 13mm eyepiece will zoom more than a 30mm? I thought it was opposite... I'm using a 26mm up to 196x zoom, and it cannot see Saturn better than a tiny circle with a ring. Should I go for a lower mm or a higher mm to see it better? Also, what beautiful deep-sky objects will be in the scandinavian night sky at this time? Thanks a lot for your replies so far!

Why is everything so blurry?
@agermangineer
@agermangineer 4 жыл бұрын
Well nebulae have a tendency to be of rather faint contrast... the same goes for the globular clusters. Therefore not everything can be of such sharp contrast as the moon...
