I think the expansion not being "essential" is more a testament to Meadow than an indictment on the expansion. Most "essential" expansions fix something in the base game or "complete" what felt like an unfinished product. Meadow is so strong on it's own is why I feel the expansion can be excellent without being "essential"

Glad to hear that the expansion doesn't really change the game, but just adds to it. That's always what I look at with an expansion to a game that I already really like...does the expansion force you to use the expansion to still be competitive and/or does it significantly change the base game strategy or way you play. Great video, as always!

I've got the expansion on pre-order, but my concern about it is the added playtime. Meadow is already surprisingly long, especially at four players, and this adds an extra worker each round. Have you found the game length to be significantly longer with the expansion, and have you tried it at the higher end of the player count?

I love Meadow, but I am not sure if I'll add this. It's already a table hog with the drafting board and campsite, I don't know if a whole other board will play well on my table, with my group. And I don't want the game to be longer.

Their explanation of this expansion's role seems perfect. I have no idea about this game specifically, but a lot of expansions these days feel like they were created from the beginning of the base game's development and split up into an expansion later. While that sounds "fiendish" by the devs, I'd rather that than a tacked-on expansion that doesn't fit in with the base game whatsoever and was clearly created just to make money. Some expansions just add more of the same content, and that's cool, but an expansion like this - with new mechanics/side board, etc. - that is more complementary to the base game is good game design.

Great review as always! I thought this was going to be an expansion I'd love, but seems kinda meh. Especially with the storage issue. Surprisingly I'm passing on Downstream.

I was hoping for an expansion that would really add something a little bit new to the game, but this seems more of the same, just a longer game. It doesn't look bad or anything, just not what I hoped...

I don't want to play without the expansion again. I think it makes Meadow a better Game. Unfortunately I would also never want to play it at 4 Players again. I wished they would have done something to shorten play time at 4 with this expansion, but (while I haven't tried it yet at 4) it seems like it would only be longer. And you still don't get the questionmark tokens, so you are Limited to one River placement per round. But for 2 and 3 it does improve the game quite a bit in my opinion
