I agree about the flavor, who wants bland food. Plus I reckon some folks never learned if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything. I’m an odd duck I suppose…. I only want to post encouraging/possibly helpful comments. All your food looks absolutely amazing! I’d love to have brunch with y’all 😊

I don't mind a bit of constructive criticism, sometimes though, the blatant negative comments are a bit odd! :D. I definitely like my food to have some char on it, but I know that's not to everyones tastes and I wouldn't go and have a go at someone else for not having it hehe :D

Your food looks good. I've been told that my sauteed onions are burned but to me they are perfect! I don't want just a light brown coloring on them. I want dark brown with some bits of char on them. I eat them on burgers, steak, in gravy or even as a side to a meal. I could use 10 large onions per 4 oz of beef and be perfectly content.

I have a question. Have you ever thought about getting a old trucking company refrigerant unit that runs on diesel as your cold room? We're seriously thinking about it.
@OurSmallFootprint
@OurSmallFootprint Жыл бұрын
I don't really want something fuel reliant, the plan is to turn the trailer into a cold room with some solar it can be plugged into here and a small generator backup, but its on the very very long list lol I did look at the old truck bodies though! transportation to us was an issue I found.

Hello new subbie here, love your channel ❤️, just a quick question about your shopping trips, why do you travel 4 odd hours to shop, is it not possible to buy your groceries closer, with the cost of fuel these days etc. Thanks again for your off grid updates. 👍😎
@OurSmallFootprint
@OurSmallFootprint Жыл бұрын
The closest decent spot is Toowoomba, and I used to go there fortnightly when we first moved out here, its about 1.5ish hours away. But I never had much success with finding a good Fruit and Veg Store that suited me and of course there's no costco etc, so then I thought, well maybe I should make the effort, go further apart and go to costco as well, which is only another hour down the range, it would save me money on things like flour and meat etc. But that would be a really long day, doing it all at once, and then I realised that my mum's place was only a further 45-60mins from Costco and thought well I could make it a two day trip and stay the night there, but to do so, I needed to drag the shopping out longer, so we went from four weeks to six weeks (and we might be able to get it longer), and now I have found the fantastic Fruit and Veg that I go to as well! I now do a bigger supply run and stay an extra night so I'm not massively rushed as well, can also get the car serviced if need be etc. Even with fuel included, we are spending less on groceries per week than I was with going closer to home due to the price differences of some key things (Meat and Flour is a really big one!) and I get access to fruit and veg by the boxful etc :D

Where did you gain so much knowledge about food? I am guessing trial and error. Have you ever done extra food prep study? I didn't know pork was a red meat, I've always thought undercooked pork is bad to consume. In America its called "the other white meat".
@OurSmallFootprint
@OurSmallFootprint Жыл бұрын
Pretty much just an interest and then research because of that! I always thought of pork like chicken as well, but I was doing a lot of research on nutrients in meats because we couldn’t afford beef much and pork was such a good price and I found all the standards of how you can cook because of smoking and stuff I needed to know internal temps etc. apparently it’s something to do with the myoglobin levels or something lol.
