Thanks for clarifying! I was actually thinking while watching "DANG everything is like a quarter of the price compared to the U.S., cost of living in the Netherlands is awesome," but actually it seems black beans and cilantro are quite pricey in your area.

FYI, use whole tomatoes as those are less processed and more flavorful. You can squish them by hand or just mix them up with the spoon when they're in the pot. I got that tip from one of the cooking shows.

Proteins: lentils and dried beans (canned beans are also okay but dried is much cheaper), firm tofu (also smoked if you can find it), non dairy milk and yogurt (preferably soy, they have the highest protein content) Spices: dried Italian herbs, dried chili, cumin, good curry powder, dried ginger, garlic powder, onion powder, black and white pepper Other "flavoring" ingredients: soy sauce, coconut milk, nutritional yeast, vegetable broth Grains: oats, brown rice, basmati rice, short grain rice, couscous, whole wheat bread, pasta (spaghetti and penne are the most versatile), Asian noodles (like ramen noodles or pho noodles) Vegetables: potatoes, bell pepper, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, carrots These are the staples I always have on hand and which I use most often.

Put a buttered paper in an oventray and add the mix flatten it out over the paper 1 cm 1/3 inch tjock bake 5-10 minutes, cut bars, approximatedly 50 pieces. Sprinkle Melted chocolate over the entire mix, let it cool, put the pieces in the freezer. Take out 10-20 per week, that way your kids might run twice as much as others and break schoolrecords. Eileen Kelly i always rinse my tins or jars out to get the remaining bits out. No waste that way & ready for recycling too.

I am hesitating about that. And besides that, I like to rinse of my canned beans etc. with clean water before I put them in my food. I do this because of the potential health risk of bpa/bisphenol A. Link: www.healthline.com/nutrition/what-is-bpa

Dear Sadia, I made this recently and we all loved it (the babes too, and my husband, who doesn't love beans at all). Such a wonderful, colourful dish! Thanks!

I'd love to see more of these. Your meals are always creative and different than the typical American meal (I'm from America) and I love that you priced everything out and explained everything.

I live in the Netherlands and the prices are higher, a red bell pepper alone costs 1 euro. The first dish is about 5 euros depending on what you already have in your kitchen if you dont have the spices it will cost about 9 euros.
@axel.lessio3 жыл бұрын
Prices can vary greatly depending on where you live (city vs. little town), where you buy (market vs. supermarket vs. local shop), also seasonality of ingredients has a huge impact.

*One tip to prevent mushy lentils* , put a few tablespoons of olive oil in a hot pan and heat it till it sizzles, then add your dry lentils mix them around until they start to take on a golden color (keep them moving so they don’t burn) and then add your water. (Look out for lots of spattering when you add the water) and cook as usual. They will retain their texture and resist mushiness! Plus they are tastier this way.

Daniel Plainview don’t worry 1950s America will come again. Trump is not the man to do it, but the next president after Trump, in my opinion Tucker Carlson, will get us back on track to great prosperity.

Great video Sadia and the Pick Up Limes team ☺. I personally would like to see another minimalist video as well as a video about gas and bloating. Since switching my diet to more plants and whole foods, I've been having heart burn and bloating and gas and I would like to know how to decrease these symptoms.
@name0surname5 жыл бұрын
Yes! The bloating and gas..😣
@qandat5 жыл бұрын
Hey Rachel! Sadia recommended in another video to soak any lentils/beans etc. 12 hours before you cook them. If you change the water during this time, the stuff that makes you bloat reduces :)
@rachelerickson73215 жыл бұрын
Hey Alice, As a long time fan of Sadia, I have indeed soaked my grains and beans before cooking, that's why I'm wondering what else I can do 🙆
@RosesAndIvy5 жыл бұрын
Maybe you have an intolerance to something? Personality I have an intolerance to fructans, which is a specific carb found in garlic, onions, bananas, wheat and a whole lot more fruits and veggies. If I eat those I get painful gas and bloating.
@rachelerickson73215 жыл бұрын
@@RosesAndIvy that's really interesting. I haven't been eating anything new yet, just eating more plants and no animals...that's why I'm like "what is going on?" unless it's my body just adjusting?
