Pro tip from my grandmother: if you cut the strawberries in half before storing in the fridge they will stay fresh longer because the moisture inside of them will be released.

grandmas are the best! my grandmas were so knowledgeable. they reused everything. chicken bones=stock, dry bread=croutons, or used to soak up too much salt in soups/broth, etc.

My mother always removed the tops, cut them up & rinse them in a colander. After the water drained out, she lined a container with a paper towel & put them in the fridge. They last all week & that's what I do with strawberries.

@Jojo Moa strongly disagree. I've seen my mother in law hand wash the dishes to then put into the dishwasher. I'm like, "you're already washing by hand so just finish them!" Not to mention you have gotta be using way more electricity on the dishwasher than someone who hand washes.

You can't actually wash off pesticides. If it is sprayed on the crop it gets into the soil and water which the plant absorbs. So the pesticide gets into ever cell of the plant and can't be cleaned off.

Absolutely love how organized you are and well prepared for the week ahead! Wish there were more people posting meal prep and practical ideas on how to do a daily plant based lifestyle, as we see more and more around vegan junkies that miss the whole point of the healthy side of the nutrition that food can offer you...but everyone to their own choice i suppose! Keep it up and do post any other ideas of how to organise things in and around the kitchen with a more plant based lifestyle in mind.

Noooo! You threw the broccoli stem away?! That is my favourite part of the broccoli! You should really try it, it tastes a little more nutty than the florets. I admit I used to throw it away too, but it is really just a waste of perfectly good produce. Tastes great in like a stir fry! Nice video!

Sarah Harke not only that, but you can order reusable zipper cloth sandwich bags and snack bags on Amazon. I use them for my daughters school lunches all the time, she loves having a little baggie of trail mix in her wonder woman Snack bag or a chickpea sandwich in a Nintendo sandwich bag. I also went to the fabric store and bought some cotton fabric remnants with little unicorns to make little square reusable unicorn napkins. I throw everything in the washing machine with all my kitchen hand towels and aprons.

I put organic wheat noodles in just about everything I eat in the bean or Quinoa family. I soak and cook my beans and Quinoa for a few hours and it absorbs lot of water, then I put it in the Instant Pot for 40 minutes, then freeze it in freezer bags, for a fast wholesome meal with beans and veggies. I defrost the bean concoction then simply heat it up in the microwave while I make the noodles. ///// You are not only pretty, you are very organized and really health conscious.

You can use the radish tops - steam as spinach or add to soup or lentils. Also peel the broccoli stem and eat raw (grated or sliced) in salad or slaw with cabbage. Plant stems ( like parsley and cilantro) also contain more concentrated nutrients.

The other advantage to washing your produce ahead of time, besides convenience, is that you don't get harmful pathogens from the produce on the inside of your refrigerator. Of course, this only applies if you don't put the produce in the refrigerator until after you have washed it. I suppose you could shop, store the produce in the fridge until ready to prep, then prep it all, but before restoring in the fridge, give the shelves a quick cleaning.

Leaving the stems in/on your vegetables (e.g. the kale) will leave them fresh even longer. (And dooon't throw away the brokkolistems!!) Also I would'nt chop the red cabbage. It'll loose more Vitamins then. You can cut it in half or quarters, if you really don't want to keep it in whole.

Dont't throw the broccoli stems!!! They are perfect to use right away in soups or green smoothies - or freeze for later. Best super easy soup is made with a base of a couple potatoes, a can of white beans and then any veggies like squasch, broccoli stem and cauliflower or carrot, pumpkin and brokkoli stem etc and water. I cook everything at the same time and then mix with a stick blender untill smooth - they always get super creamy thanks to the potatoes

You should get a salad spinner. They are very inexpensive. Usually max cost is $15. Mine was life-changing. My greens stay fresh much longer after being thoroughly dried. Also, if you put a small dry cloth on top of the greens before storing it will absorb excess moisture that evaporates and will help them to stay crisp.

We stopped buying salad dressing when we found that homemade made one meal at a time tasted so fresh unlike bottled that could set for months before it got used up. Making homemade means I can try all sorts of combinations of flavors.

Adding a drying rack to my shopping list. Such a smart idea to dry your lettuce! It's the most frustrating part of washing my greens.

You can eat radish leaves too in salads or as a veggie.

Nice job. I like the way you prep and store your food. Time for me to do the same. I don't have a dish rack but I'm wondering if I run my veggies through the rinse cycle in my dishwasher, will this be just as good as hand-washing?
