A coworker of mine got two kittens and said they were peeing all over the house and she said like most cats litter box training is nearly impossible. I told her I've had cats my entire life they're so easy and literally train themselves. I told her if they're doing that it's probably because they're stressed out (her son who is like 6 is actually crazy). So she asked if I could take them. My cat has passed like 4 months earlier and was in such devastation I couldn't even think about it. So I called my boss who I was also friends with and asked her if anyone wanted two kittens. Her son ended up taking them. Not a single accident the entire time.

Well it also could be the animals around them too! My loving and cuddly cat is terrified of cats and if one comes into our backyard even if it's scared off she's stressed out and stationed by the window for days. Maybe that cat was scared of all the cats in the shelter.

People often don't give the cat time (enough) to adjust. These cats are not mean. They're just scared and overwhelmed by too much touching and attention.

Actually, it is usually best to do so. Sometimes cats get too accustomed with street life that, they cannot adjust to a home life. Obviously in this case, people didnt try hard enough, or even just a little bit

@@WolfofAsia012cats evolved in the deserts, not todays streets. I have seen too many do very poorly on the streets without loving care. These cats are no longer self sufficient after domestication. Ask any veterinarian, outdoors their lives are much shorter in great peril from disease, cars and idiotic heartless people not to mention statistics from such organizations as the Audubon Society show cats outside are deadly for small native animals such as birds. This message has the approval from my former feral cat laying next to me giving and receiving boundless love for the last 13 years.😻

Animals aren't mean. They are scared, fearful or terrified. These poor babies get this horrible label when it's just not true as we see in this video. It's heartbreaking that they're just misunderstood 💔 All this precious baby needed was love, compassion and understanding. I love him!

Sometimes the people that say a cat is mean, it’s because the people weren’t treating the car right. Maybe not maliciously or on purpose but I know some people let their kids harass cats and expect them to act like a submissive dog about it and when the cat reacts in defense or frustration it’s “bad cat”. No actually it’s “stupid person”. Cat seemed fine around the right people.

People that don’t know anything about cats think you can just leave them alone and they don’t need attention and they’ll just do their own thing. Cats are sensitive and get stressed out easily. One of my cats was homeless, has a broken tail that is bent at the top like a periscope, and a missing toe bean. She spent the first few weeks with me hiding on the top shelf of my closet. Now she’s the biggest sweetest cuddle bug ever. My mom has some semi-homeless cats that live in her garage that she caught to take to the vet to get fixed. The vet said the mom cat was the most feral cat she’s ever seen but that cat is always the first to come to me for love. I pet her and give her scratchies and she purrs. Nobody else can touch her or she’ll hiss and growl and hit them. Cats get stressed out easily and their personality changes once they get love and trust you.

It bothers me that shelter staff would describe a cat as being "bad." Cats, like all animals, are neither bad nor good. They behave according to what is happening around them at the time, whatever stimulus they are experiencing. We may not even understand what stimulus has triggered a particular response. It could be a sound, a smell, a movement ... anything really but all we need to know is that SOMETHING brought out that response in the animal and we have to respond appropriately. Extreme fear in a cat can provoke an extreme reaction that can, and will, cause damage to humans. If the shelter staff were scratched or bitten they need to understand that the cat was not being "bad" it was just reacting in a feline way and they need to try to work out why that happened. Giving an animal a quiet "time out" place can be very helpful but it can't ever be used as some sort of punishment. (My education in animal behaviour and welfare was with Edinburgh University.) I also can NOT believe they would just release a cat back into the streets. That is a terrible thing to do. I'm so glad you two kind, understanding people adopted him. He has found his home and the right humans and is clearly one very happy little cat.

There is no such thing as a mean or bad cat. They are simply scared, terrified at being "imprisoned" and not knowing what will happen to them. Especially a kitten like this baby. He may have lost his Mama and they trapped him, and he was all alone with nobody to defend him so he hisses like most kittens do and fights to survive. Thank you for seeing him and taking the step to adopt him despite the poor report on him.

Some animals just can't stay at shelters. All the noise and smells, plus not being able to come and go as they please (it's a bit like prison, isn't it?) makes them either shut down or freak out. Once they leave the shelter and are at a home, they change completely. This cat looks very young, not even a year old, so all the new experiences were just a bit too much for him.

If they thought he was too feral too (edit: to 🤦‍♀️) adopt, they may neuter and release him. For some cats, it’s the best option as they will never feel comfortable around humans. But they didn’t give this little guy enough of a chance. He just needed to feel safe.

That’s how my tuxedo kitty was when I met him in 2012. He was 4 months old when my step sister sent him to me via her mom and my dad. He literally remembered me from Xmas 4 months earlier and there was very little adjustment. He even got along with the old cat from next door who came over from time to time. We clicked right away. It’s been 11 years since that encounter and he’s going to be 12 this September. Yeah we’ve been very lucky to have found each other. Through Covid and real serious legal challenges he’s been there for me. I do like to believe he was someone important to me who cared enough to come back to be there when I needed someone

So, the shelter turns the animals loose if they’re not homed? That’s crazy! I hate to think that these little sweethearts are being fed and protected from the elements for a while, and then if they can’t get a family, they just get forced out into the wild. That’s a shame and should be illegal!

The ones with "wild" personalities are some of the best ones. When they choose you as their person, they will go tame for you! If people can tame wild horses, people can tame wild cats! It is such an honor, gift & achievement to receive the love of a more "temperamental" cat. They leave their fears & traumas in the past, & they open up their heart with trust & unconditional love. Cats have so much to teach us, we can learn a lot from them. My two street cats are the most docile cuddle bugs ever, I know for sure they are extremely grateful for their better life off the streets!
