Ororo Munroe and training. This breed is supposed to be laid back and easy going, and has no innate aggression. It’s not in the breed DNA to be aggressive. This is 💯 the fault of the owner, through lack of training and socialization of this dog.

Amazing the time and patience she has for her dogs. Sitting on the floor until he calms down, not caring that the parents are there and properly showing the dog some discipline and training. Dede, I hope you see this comment. I notice that you are often good with the aggressive dogs once the pet parent leaves, but you don't do well until you stop shouting and calm down. Then your natural ability shines. Re-watch yourself and notice the change at 1:19. That's when your energy changed and the dog responded well, wagging its tail and coming to you. You breathed out, you were already sitting. I felt you sort of give in/accept the situation and you seemed to tune into the dog. All that "sit, sit. sit" stuff ramps up your stress level and agitates the dog. I have seen it in your other videos. You were starting to calm down when you decided to cross your legs and sit, but it wasn't that sitting that did it. It was your attitude change. I have learnt from a professional dog trainer to use a slip lead, high up on the dogs neck, to direct them. Ask the worried parent to take off their lead/harness/contraption, and put the slip lead on for you. Then pass you the lead, so the dog can see you receive the lead- then it knows the owner has transferred the possession to you for the moment. Let the dog smell you. Say a greeting that calms you, like "I'm gonna clean you, make you feel more comfortable, and free you from all that matted hair. Come with me", and then march with the dog, right off into the grooming room, away from the pet parent's fear and worry. Talk to the dog, calm them, and I reckon you'll be fine with 99% of these "aggressive dogs."

Totally agree. I think she gets nervous a little herself being on camera and all, understandably but this dog was just fearful and not socialized. You're only shutting them down by yelling sit over and over, they're not understanding and maybe don't even know what sit is sometimes lol. Just take a breath and go a little slow, pet parents need to work at home before this is ever an issue too.

A very well thought-out comment. I have worked with different breeds & temperaments of dogs and so much of it has to do with confidence with the dog. More positivity. My concern was a bit with telling the owners what to do in an agressive tone. I mean, I would listen to more of what she was saying if she were my vet and/or a pet behavioralist. I believe it would have been constructive to say "consider working with a behavioralist" instead of bossing/shaming an owner. I didn't like the anxious "sit! Sit!SIT!". Even with my children, I know if I want them to do something, I couple it with a positive tone. If I want them to STOP a behavior, that is the more intense tone. So, that tone would be more of when I want him to "Stay!" Or "Leave it" Does that make sense? I believe more in the Victoria Stilwell than the Ceasar Milano approach.

1. Pulling the dog out of frame is never going to help. 2. Yelling sit or anything won’t help Bc it will tell him that the danger is real. 3. Pulling up or on the leash at all is scaring him more and he is not going to calm down. 4. That dog is scared. Not mean. You have to approach him as a scared dog. Not a mean Dog. 5. If a dog is genuinely mean all you have to do is give them a treat when they are quiet and he will learn really fast. Smart dog. 6. Again. This is not aggression. It’s fear. I’d be scared if I was sent to a new place that had so many smells I was feeling sensory overload like these dogs do and forced to go to a random person who was yanking on me and yelling at me. Give positive reinforcement. Not just yelling or yanking when he’s not doing what u want. Positive reinforcement is proven to work really well.

Well said. She came at him so aggressively. That seems like a really bad first impression to make with a scared or mean dog that you are trying to befriend. I'm actually surprised that this dog didn't snap on her when she started trying to lasso him while hovering overhead and yelling SIT at him. The way he sat with his back to her was very telling.

I am a groomer I am here to groom not give dog treats. I am also not here to have a limb amputated if a dog bites, barks/bucks like that that is aggressive. If you need a dictionary let me know I will put one up for sale on my site! Ag·gres·sive - ready or likely to attack or confront . At the beginning I was talking to the pet owner as he was ready to attack me. mean -someone or something that is unkind, motivated by cruelty or intended to be hurtful . This dog is hurtful if he bites me right? You say he scared do you know what scared is? Scared - fearful; frightened. If this dog was scared he would cower. SMH Sit Down! Thanks for the love and support. Dislikes help too ✌️😂😊

My Favorite Groomer I won’t hesitate to admit that you can do great work with dogs that don’t cooperate. I just get concerned as a dog trainer when I see this type of interaction between human and dog. No hate at all. Just giving constructive criticism to try to help keep everyone safe. I think that there should be a behavioral aspect of grooming so that everyone can be knowledgeable and safe. I’m sure you know more about grooming than you do so I won’t say hey use a different blade etc. Just would hate to see you get bit or see a dog get labeled as an aggressive dog if it was simply out of fear. There are aggressive behaviors and aggressive dogs. I’m not posting here to hate but to help spread knowledge among the community that works with animals. Still love your channel and seeing how you groom. I didn’t dislike this video either. Let’s remember criticism can be constructive and be grateful for those more knowledgeable than us in a particular area who share their insights. If I didn’t like you or your work I wouldn’t watch. I watch to learn more and give advise when I feel I can or should. No need to come at people who are trying to help you. It’s dangerous when people refuse constructive criticism. Social media takes the people out of communication so hopefully this will clarify that I am giving CONSTRUCTIVE criticism from one person in animal care to another. Idk how you deal with those owners who flat out abuse their pets. It’s hard to see but im glad you are there to give the pets relief and some much needed care.

I have been a groomer for 26 years, have worked in vet clinics for 9 of those years. I have never in my career seen anything like your videos. It makes me very nervous on how you handle the animals. How you groom them, you seem scared that every dog is going to bite you. You show no kindness or comforting behaviours towards the animal. They need to feel safe and comfortable with you. You seem to treat them like objects. I just hope people watching your videos are aware that this is not how the majority of groomers operate. We love to care for and cuddle your pups and we work hard to get them through anything they are uncomfortable with. We want to be someone they trust and love to come and see. I too see a lot of aggressive dogs, and work hard to gain their trust and make them confident in the situation and not scared and aggressive.

I totally agree, I don't like that her first instinct is to always add another restraint to the animal the second that the show a hint of a bad behavior. the poor dog in the video looks terrified. even when she was on the floor with the dog, she was very harsh and disrespectful towards the dog. Sure you want to be firm and direct when speaking to the animal, but she just takes it way to far and Is more or less yelling orders at the scared dog. she doesn't give him anything for positive behavior except the occasional "good boy" She doesn't even reward them with treats or anything. The animal is only ever going to trust the groomer if they show love and respect to the animal. I would never bring any animal to her ever.

Just the one, so my right hand is free to use the clipper and scissors. This means especially when I’m scissoring the head and face I’m safe to handle the dog with my protected hand. If they go to bite - and its happened, the chance of injury is a lot less. The things we do....but still the best job ever! :)

When bathing a dogs and rinsing the face be careful spraying too much water in the face especially when he's panting. Just one drop of water can go to his lung and create health issues. What you do is hold the snout lift head up then rinse. It's ok to rinse the eyes and always be calm. Rub his chest in circles until he's calm.

I really like your videos even tho i’m not sharing your opinion in many facts, especially shaving a double coated dog breed but with all respect, i have to say thats not training what you do ! You have definitely no idea of the dog language! It would be easier for both of you if you would understand the dogs body language and please stop screaming commands to the dog on and on ! Especially if he is already doing it ! And please no leash behind the dogs ears !! There are so many nerves that you could easily damage with pulling the leash up there ! It could cause a lot of pain and stress ! The dog only behaves on this leash because of the pain !! And one little extra tipp - calm down you are also making the dog nervous if you are!

You really can't fault Dede for this dog's behavior since the owner is ultimately responsible, but this poor thing was receiving lots of conflicting commands which simply added do its anxiety..."Look at Daddy! No! No! Look at Daddy! No! Stop! Sit! No!" Most of the time, commands being screamed at the dog are just the human's way of letting off steam in the heat of the moment and add no benefit to the dog's situation and often just make things worse for all parties involved. Honestly, I feel like positive, calming commands like "Good boy!" are not used enough.

Thawed frozen green beans are excellent treats and additives to food for weight loss. Or NO SALT canned green beans. Other vegetables too.

Yes, green beans are what the vet I worked for recommended for weight loss. Also, check the calories on their food (some brands do list calories-Hills does). Sometimes you can change food instead of or in addition to feeding less food.

I agree, I give my Golden Retriever frozen green beans and carrots for treats, also apples are good for dogs (in moderation though, cause fruit sugar). I have also done frozen watermelon for hot days as it's mostly water. I really had to change brands of food for him in order to get down his calories enough to where he is steadily losing weight. I hated to do it because he loved his kibble but it's been so worth it to see the improvement in his overall health. He's lost 10 lbs that I know of, and maybe more now as it's been a few weeks since the last vet appt. I'll weigh him again at the Petco today when we go and see how he's doing. I can tell just by the way he's running around playing in the backyard that he's feeling better. And he's not even at goal weight yet!

Yes! I try to stay on top of my dog's weight but she still manages to get the upper hand on me. And YES on small amount of fruit. I think there is a huge misconception that more fruit is more better (sic). Not true.

Is there any way to lower the leash on the table so that it sits differently when tightened? Kinda looks uncomfortable on the neck of the dog...like this is meant for a taller, bigger dog.

As does the groomer. So that she can be less anxious and more assertive/positive in working with aggressive dogs. This constant "No. No! NO!" Instead of calming the dog so it associates grooming with positive experience. Its a GOOD thing to get groomed! We are happy and calm when people work on grooming us, even as we mean business!

The dog that's on your advertisement board behind you.. The dog in the right corner.. That's my dog... But like exactly my dog. And we live in the Netherlands Europe. Mine is a Shi Tzu /king Charles spaniel mix So strange to see him in your wall 😜. Question: my groomer gives my dog little treats in between the klipping. Not snapping when nails get shortened... one treat for you mister. And mind you that treats are not cookies. That's his food. She will give him 5 max. And he loves her now.

She’s not a dog trainer,..my dog was abused and I adopted her, she worked very well with calm voice cause as soon as you raise your voice that stresses them it’s common sense, they are no..NO different. From people. Try being kind and calm..you can’t match their hyper ness..they’re scared that’s why they get growls..lady STOP YELLING..DONT RAISE YOUR VOICE THAT AMPS THEM UP.

Joey's tail is wagging. Isn't that a good sign? It doesn't look like a nervous wag. But what do I know? He sure is a cutie! I don't care what y'all say, I'm addicted to watching Dede. I love it when she says, "Don't get mad at me. Don't get mad."

His tail is wagging to the left. In this case, no. When a dog’s tail wags to the left, it’s a sign of anxiety and aggression.

Some people may take her way of saying NO! and SIT! Like the way she did, is yelling at the dog but I take it as being assertive. Saying no in a soft toned voice isn't always going to help. Obviously, the owners arent really being assertive with joey and it seems to me that joey is the alpha in the house. They also didn't take joey to the groomers enough at a young age to get him comfortable with other people touching his paws, butt and face. If the would have, the owners wouldn't be in this position. EVERYTHING starts at a young age! Also good tip, Never ever give an aggressive dog a treat, its like rewarding him or her for their bad behavior. Ps. I know the dog was scared, but you still have to be assertive when ANY dog is trying to bite you. So question, if your scared dog tries to bite you, your kid, someone else's kid, or someone you dont know are you going to, A) say no in a soft, sweet voice OR B) put your foot down and in a assertive voice say NO! ?
