Another great video in the books, keep up the great work! It's nice to see an MRE channel that is run by someone who is a veteran, it adds that touch all the other channels are missing. The other channels may be "MRE experts" but they have no idea what military members actually went through and don't have the stories to go along with their list of facts.

Best MRE yet and I think it may have been the best story year as well. I hit the like button as soon as the video starts playing (been doing since video 2-3) and do far have not regretted it. I wonder if the lack of salt packet was due to the high salt content of the soups, especially the ramen.

What a channel. So simple and the stories are great. Good job sir. Appreciate the content. While I wasn't in the Military I did get to enjoy a few MREs in JROTC summer camp especially at Fort Jackson SC. Some were good others weren't. Even then cadets were trading out items. Rumor was the gum was to make soldiers poop since some would make themselves constipated. I just assumed they were Chiclet gum. The little bottles of Tobasco was cool as heck. However our instructors came around and snatched our packs of matches lol. I did also get to do the training MRE you did in another video didn't come in the usual package wanna say it was in a clear green package. That was decent. We did another summer camp but at a Military School in NC and we ate in the chow hall every meal felt like I was in the Air Force compared to Jackson lol.

Salivating over this one! Here in the Philippines, we have access to many varieties of fresh seafood on the coastline of the South China sea. It is important in my opinion for it to be well heated to avoid hepatitis and a few other nasties. I NEVER consume raw shellfish here (tropical waters with high human population. We have consumed buckets full of steamed and/or baked Tahong (green mussels and oysters from Hagonoy, a town that is part of our province of Bulacan. It was easy in the states to put together a faux Newberg sauce using a canned condensed cream of shrimp soup. Well, NOT here in the Phils. Yet another product we simply can not purchase anywhere here. You cook from scratch or you will really have to wing it. I "cheat" with a great Canadian made cream of mushroom soup (NO GMOs) and a good dab of tomato paste to get some color. After partially cooking the shrimp or crabs (both is better!) we cook down the shells and then further reduce the liquid to concentrate the flavor. We then have a base to witch we add what we can get fresh off the boat. Assorted fish filet chunks, crab meat, shrimp, oysters, even small octopus tentacles, ALL GOOD. Warm it up till the fish flakes and you have a safe serving temperature. Serve over steamed rice, I prefer brown but most guests reach for the white stuff. We have found on occasion, a few cans of imported clam chowder but dang it does NOT tastes like what GrandMother made when I was a kid. Nothing like a great clam chowder and a pan of biscuits hot out of the oven with soft butter on a cold winter night! At least I still remember the method so a chowder is doable. I hope you understand why I am a tad jealous of this one! You certainly deserve a bit of convenience and thank you for making all of us aware of this superior MRE.

Good question! I have had that, some old MREs, my DD214, and old maps from being in Holland and Beirut as well as some old memorabilia from my travels while on active duty that I just don't think about. My wife made me a shadow box with a uniform shirt, dog tags, and medals I received but it's just something that I don't think about much. "That was then, this is now" kind of a thing, I guess. I have always had the idea that my best days are ahead so I don't spend much time looking back. I know I miss some things that way but I've always spent my life thinking like that. TFW, Darryl!

Hi! Recent fan here, and I've been going through all of your MREs videos. I was wondering something about when you would eat these types of meals. Spicy food tends to cause people to sweat, which is why I thought they were so popular in the south (aside from growing down there of course.) I've always been under the influence that sweating and overnight winter survival would be an easy way to become hypothermic and die. Are you typically on board a ship or near shelter when consuming spicy foods in the arctic, or was this just a weird choice of seasoning. It seems like it should have been salt instead of spicy sauce. I love clam chowder, but would never consider ruining it with what appears to be Tabasco sauce. Love the videos and thanks for the content! I love the stories from when you served as well, they are always really interesting. Have a good one! :)

Loved that arctic circle story. My dad did a couple of tours up there as a cartographer on a coast guard vessel. He was told that the survival suit would give them about 5 minutes in the water before his core temperature got too low that he could not be saved. And he was told that everyone got tossed in the water on their first tour. He did not get dunked. Or so he says.... And yes, it is conceivable that a person could in fact die from that practice. Maybe it's reserved for officers, not marine cartographers... Haha

I've heard from a few other commenters that there is a company that was making this one as late as 2019. So where I read online that they were no longer making them was just with one company and that article was from back in 2016 or so. TFW!
@JS-wp4gs2 жыл бұрын
If they really did stop producing these then its a major disappointment. That is as high quality as a military ration gets, and with surprisingly high quality ingredients. I was expecting a few little chunks of clams at best but they had tons of whole clams. These are the kinds of rations that are great for morale, especially in the kind of cold climates where they are issued. Morale alone is a good enough reason to keep producing and issuing them. This is exactly the kind of thing any soldier in a freezing arctic climate looks forward to after a long day stuck out in freezing temperatures. Nothing drains a person faster than having to stay out in the cold like that, especially for US soldiers who come from warmer parts of the country and just aren't used to that kind of cold. This would do wonders for soldiers in the field and make it clear they're being well looked after and provided for
