@@xcalibertrekker6693 They marked it as 1990 because they don't quite have a understanding on how to read American date stamps- to be fair they are misleading- I can tell by the packaging that it is a early 2000's when they first made the switch to tan. The date codes are between '03 and '06, which would make sense- the longer lasting items would be cycled through more than things like civilian cheese crackers. It's definitely not a forgery, just a misinterpreted item. Edit: they actually switched over in 1996, so this actually makes much more sense!

My service predated MREs too, USAF 1976-1980 and USN 1980-1986. A couple times I had the chance to eat the old canned C-rats. Later in civilian life, I began ordering MREs, but mostly just the main entrees. Prices are so skyhigh now, my limited retirement income just won't allow it. But I do enjoy the vicarious pleasure of watching these YT MRE channels. 😎

Holy shit. I remember my friends in college selling me their old MRE's from the 90's/00's for a handful of dollars per or a pack of cigs, this was in 07-08. It really makes me realize my age. I couldn't have made it through a semester without them, since I couldn't afford the cafeteria. Still, if they are decently well kept, most MREs have a crazy shelf life. Thanks for sharing!

Had several MREs that saw combat. One was from Gulf War 1. Buddy secured the burning oil fields and carried them in his pack. The other was from my friend's son. He was EOD in Afghanistan. He was trying to clear an field of IEDs when one blew up and destroyed his mine clearing vehicle. 2 weeks later, he was out on patrol when their patrol got ambushed and a round entered his chest. That earned him a trip to Germany. His dad gave me some MRE components that his son carried in the field.

I have eaten MREs before when Hirricaine IKE hit Texas we were without power for a long time all our food spolied and groceries stores were closed aswell. So they opened pods diatributing these MREs. I went and got two boxes and was excited because it read HOT meals. The first one I opened was a Chicken Chimichana. I had nevet eaten a Chimi before so I was happy to get it. However, mine did not come with accessories, but it did come with its own, cooking mechanism. I had to bend it backwards and something poped and it was boiling inside the pouch. You wait a few minutes and voila ready to eat hot meal. But like your experience it did looked like dog food. I could not eat it because it also had a funky smell.

Beef teriyaki was added to menu 17 in the year 2001. So it can only be 20 years old. If you can recall the numbers on the packages. The first 4 are the dates. the first number is the year, and the next 3 are the number of day from 01 to 365. So if an MRE was made on narch 5th 2001 the number would read, 1064.

Yeah these and a couple years before weren't bad. They still had the best jalapeno cheese spread before they changed it up and ruined it. These are the ones right after they got rid of the full packs of M&Ms. They would "blush up" or whatever it's called and be white as hell.
@HandlingItAll2 жыл бұрын
These are the ones I came up eating then they changed them up and that "government cheese" spread was not near as good. The Tabasco sauce was a welcome addition and that Tabasco sauce is definitely TURNED, LOL.

Gawd I loved that jalapeno cheese spread. They changed the bread up a lot later and it got better and made the heaviest Peanut butter sammich you ever had in your life. One piece of this MRE "Bread" equivalent I think to like four or five pieces of sliced bread. You would GET FULL on this stuff beside the damn obligatory "John Wayne" crackers and "TP" that was essentially useless after eating these "half dried caulk butt" creator MREs(I've tried to think of a word for what the "finished product" is after consuming these about the best analogy 😂). Might as well wipe with a sand blaster and get somewhere.

She would fix me up with Vietnamese food and chinese food. Chicken and rice, beef stir fry, chicken stir fry, rice and thai sausages. I carried that into missions in a steel thai 4 can holder. I put that into my rook sack and away I would go. I washed it down with my back up canteen filled with Jack, ice, coke cola. I would get so shit faced and the locals would have to bring me back to Fort Clark Air Force Base. In a sand pan or took took! Lol! The good old days! I loved going to little Saigon outside Manilla. Excellent Video ! you actually know the Deal with eating in the field. alot of people and youtube testers always will say, " thats nasty" or "how can soldiers eat this cold"? I always think the same thing, ...... Spend a few nights,... or a week,... or a month, Humping a Ruck all day while living and sleeping in a swamp, or the frozen mountains , or the Desert, and that food tastes absolutely perfect . consumed every bit of it..so tired you can feel the calories hit the system' much of it eaten while on the move..., pound that peanut butter 5 hours into a "evening hike" .. eat / dip the dry coffee to stay alert at night. eat the creamer and sugar... dip chocolate brownie into dry beverage base powder and love it . eat coco beverage powder with a few drops of water making it chocolate frosting in which you dump cream cheese spread . Every bit of energy out of it. Taste doesnt really matter anymore. Best sht ever. I ate hundreds and hundreds of them.. After a few weeks / months in the bush /field, you get back to the rear with the gear and the beer and real food tastes like the greatest object ever to exist on Earth.. lol... after getting back to base ( stateside) , 4-5 of us Grunts would clean up, load into a cab, and hit "old country buffet" like sprung monkeys . Then, straight to the Bars. CHEERS ! CURRAHEE DMZ

You, sir, are obviously the real deal. Great to know you are watching the videos. I appreciate that and the input. In Beirut we were so starved of beer that we drank our beer room temperature from the can. As I recall, it was Stella Artois out of Belgium, but I could be wrong. I wasn't much of a beer drinker, but I did buy one occasionally. Then some generator guys hooked up an old refrigeration unit left by the Beirut Army and you could buy a cold beer as long as they lasted for twice the price. My recollection is that the warm beer (room temp was always at least 80 degrees) was 50 cents, the cold was $1.00. tfw!
