If you have a micrometer, the openers are no problem, but you can't measure the closers accurately without a tool like this

Because of the shape, you can't get a measuring caliper onto the opening shim or the closing shim

Maybe the explanation is unclear to me. I don't see how using these adapters differs from just measuring the shims themselves with a vernier gauge or micrometer?

The step on the closer is so small that it's hard to measure with either of those.

No, the tool allows you to measure the shims on their own

I guess there's no way to use a micrometer with your tool set. I bought a fancy digital micrometer before I watched this video. Oh well, now I need to buy a digital caliper. My old Starrett metric dial caliper only measures to 0.01 mm.

Yes, You can use your micrometer in exactly the same way I'm using a caliper.
