A Dutch city has decided to ban all meat advertisements from public spaces in an effort to reduce the consumption and green gas emissions. Haarlem in the Netherlands will enforce the ban from 2024 and with this it will become the first city in the world to ban meat ads.

@@punintended4754 yeah, also consuming bare minimum amount of food where you are near-underweight actually extends your life because it slows your metabolism aka aging you less quickly, as you use less energy and cell division is slower. like what are we debating here? that we should have a low-quality life just so we live longer? not too get too harsh, but you might as well shoot me in the head right now if that's the case. because basically everything comes at the price of something else. i'm here for a good time, not a long time. and yes, while these studies are not often going to LIE about their finding, they have to be funded by some entity. so some important information they might deem "not relevant" but actually is will be left out. not because the scientists involved are evil people by default, but they dont wanna bite the hand that feeds them, causing unintentional bias. problem is also that news articles who dont have the time to have multiple people peer review and interpret these studies from different ideologies and/or political views are incentivised to bring news as quickly as possible and as engaging as possible. studies about cigarettes were used in the past to point out that "other things were just as/more harmful than cigarettes so why stop?" is an example.

It has decreased it i'm sure. The difference is that stopping smoking is a good thing, eating meat is for the most part very healthy and needed for survival, making ads for it (as long as unhealthy fast food and addictive gluttony isn't promoted) shouldn't be a problem.

@@anacc3257 of course, I agree. I'm just voicing that curbing ads won't work in and of itself. Curbing smoking has been a gargantuan task. Industrial meat and its by products should be a greater concern than merely proposing a ban on its advertising. Battery eggs for example. Especially the American method of washing then compelling refrigeration. Never mind large poultry farms in virtually every country where chickens are administered antibiotics, in some cases unsupervised. Humans are not herbivorous. We're omnivores. We can't synthesise or get from plants some of the nutrients we need and supplementation with synthetics is not an ideal solution, which we undoubtedly will find out at some point. Cheers
