Thank you! Going to be going to look at some rabbits this week and will be breeding for meat. I knew this video would be legit when I seen that the information was coming from a wise older man. We live in an inverted society where the majority seem to discount that the older generations have gained more wisdom, so videos like these are incredibly valuable. Subscribed, and thank you again!

Look on craigs list and see if there are some backyard growers in your area...It would give you an idea how they are set up. A lot of professionals won't let you see their operations but regular folks would be glad for you to see how they raise rabbits. Thanks fer watching Bro. Lee!

Hey Mr Duke. I’m out here in east Texas. I tend to keep too many rabbits so I can diversify the breeding but when we relocated the rabbits got mixed up. So I have bread three times this year and only got one kindle. I think my girls are too old. I’m feeding two adults and two dogs. I have 6 does and three bucks. One had a successful kindle of 7 kits. How many rabbits should I be maintaining for good breeding? I guess 9 is too much

Hey Duke, how come you dont just keep some from the litter that you have? I'm guessing it has to do with the bloodline ?
@RuffCut5 жыл бұрын
yes...all the does are the same bloodline and they start out with good litter numbers but during the second year they fall off....say from averaging 8 down to 5...some even miss and I am not use to that....I will keep one doe from the original bloodline though...thanks Larry and take care ol buddy
@TheFrogfeeder4 жыл бұрын
@@RuffCut I wonder if that is from starting them breeding too young? Sounds like what others have described from that. What age do you start breeding? I know you aren’t interested in longevity, but if you wait till at least 8 months, preferably 9, you don’t get problems like small or fading litter size and can have rabbits still throw 10+ kits well into 4/5 years old and beyond.
@RuffCut4 жыл бұрын
@@TheFrogfeeder I wait 6 months usually...what type of rabbits do you breed?
@TheFrogfeeder4 жыл бұрын
@@RuffCut I have cal bucks and NZ does, purebred “show” rabbits from a well known breeder here in my area. Years ago I used to do em at 6 months, this time around I waited longer... try this: next time you pick your new breeders, choose one and let it wait until 9 month old minimum, then breed her at the same time as a 6 month old, keep em both for 2 years and keep accurate records of breedings and births, then compare... You’ll see an exponential difference in production I swear. :)

can you change the flooring on their cages at least, it really hurts their feet
@RuffCut4 жыл бұрын
you been talking to my rabbits??
@spinel67864 жыл бұрын
Rough Cut Homestead haha no, But I can tell by body language when they don’t binky and have space to run around. there’s been a lot of cases where wire cages irritate their feet to the point of blisters if it becomes a habit of them living in those circumstances, I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, I just thought if you could take it into consideration for their comfort and quality of life before they’re slaughtered etc. I understand slaughtering animals for food and I’m fine as long as it’s done humanely and quick, but something that hurts to see is the living situations they’re in before hand, I know it’s a meat industry but at least give them comfy flooring and space to run.
