Great episode. It is always great to see a new spear fisherman have a good hunt. I know you always try your best to follow all the laws and with fishing there are many of them. The California Sheephead is one of our only fish you cannot fillet before reaching land. It's a silly rule and only helps DFW identify and size the fish if they decide to check you out, but it is a rule.

We aren't natural prey for sharks. There's a reason why shark attacks are so rare. And even when they happen, humans aren't eaten. They take a bite of a surfer on a board thinking they're a seal but leave us alone after they see how bony we are.

Hey Steve you probably remember me from Facebook . I am Matthew Rowles and my favorite things to do are hunt fish and wrestle. I like your show because everything you kill you eat . Your not like one of those shows that just go out just to kill something. You inspire me because when I hunt I completely forget about everything and I get to the point where all I care about is shooting something but you help me understand that it’s not just about killing it’s about taking in the invirement around you and actually eating what you killed

For starters, I am a MASSIVE fan of all things Steve Rinella & crew and have read his books and bought them for many others and watched all the meat episodes over and over. I love how well he models everything in the outdoors. Watching him and Janis get into spearfishing has been awesome. We hunt hard where I live at the bottom of the outer banks, but spearfishing is the best thing we have. That said, I get a little nervous watching this. Don’t get me wrong, I get stoked when I see these guys spearfishing, and so much of what they discuss is right on. However, I would love it it they did a course from AIDA or PFI and told everyone thinking about spearfishing or Freediving to do so. Shallow water blackout is an equal opportunity killer. I’ve personally saved a friend, who’s the best waterman I’ve ever met, from blackout after he came up from a dive and if I hadn’t been trained he would’ve died. Maybe they did this and didn’t mention it, but this video potentially leaves people thinking a quick briefing on the boat about lmc’s or breathe-ups will be sufficient. We wouldn’t suggest people hunt without a hunter safety course, and Freediving is way more dangerous in my opinion. You are totally out of your element. Sufficient training helps you keep your head when crap happens to you and know how to respond if it happens to a buddy. When fish start showing up, it’s easy to ditch your buddy and go on a rampage if you haven’t been trained to know how deadly that can be. Like I said, FWIW. Well done on the kills by the way🤙
