This and all the other productions by this crew aren't just guys out flogging the water or flinging arrows or bullets. Steve and chosen cast always brings a thinking mans perspective to the experience that I appreciate. When out adventuring myself and being with folks that are on that same page. I find those experiences the most fulfilling. It fills that void created by the visual of that 30 lb propane tank full of bullet holes surrounded by empty beer cans we passed earlier. And the imagery that creates. Im grateful for the existence of this content.

Freshwater drum are one of my favorite fish to eat. When I moved to Kansas to live with my wife on her family’s farm I got the bulk of our protein from fishing in the local creek. Our most memorable meal together was blackened drum and every time I came back from fishing, my wife would ask if I caught a drum. It became our favorite.

My biggest fish was a 25 pound drum caught on the Ouachita River. Had no idea what to do with it, so I gave it to a guy who said he cooks them. That fish was a heck of a fight. I thought I might have had a striper twice its size or something. I barely got it in with a beefy bass rod and 15 pound line. I caught it on a shad pattern lipless crankbait and ended up breaking a trebel hook in its jaw trying to get it out. Probably my second favorite fishing memory, after the time my dad hired a crappie guide for my 16th birthday. It is the only fish I recall having to actually fight with instead of just dragging it in. Had to fight against that behemoth as well as the current. I wish I could go back and do it again. Thank you for bringing back the memories. It's like finding your favorite childhood toy when you are 25 or 30 years old.

We Love Freshwater DRUM!! Was to funny when Danielle compared to a shrimp... we often fix them that way, cooking with crab boil spices..even tinting the water with food coloring to give a shrimp like appearance. They are wonderful cooked many ways... the one thing one MUST DO, when keeping Drum... is to get them on ICE!!! Their flesh will go mushy extremely fast if not kept iced down. Glad you enjoyed an awesome eating fish that is not that hard to come by when one learns where to find them.

just make sure you put it right on ice don't try and keep them in the livewell. They usually don't last in the live well and they turn quick. Do what they did rip the gills out bleed it, and right on ice. Truthfully if your keeping fish to eat this is the best method to keep any fish for the best taste. I do this with cats, drum, stripers, gar really it helps any fish taste better.

GREAT episode. I personally love freshwater drum. I get them as bycatch when walleye trolling Lake Erie and the Detroit River. The two most important things that you have to do with this fish specifically, something that I think many anglers don't know, is bleed them and get them directly on ice. You guys did it perfectly. I sometimes take the fried fish and dip it in cocktail sauce and you basically get a Red Lobster style entree, lol.
@Titus-as-the-Roman3 жыл бұрын
Can't speak for Minnesota but here in Kentucky the best bait to use for White Drum is live crawl-fish (Crayfish, Crawl Dads, etc.), and they are excellent eating if prepared properly. Grand father called them rock head carp, that's why many didn't eat the Drum.

Have fun and enjoy everything outdoors.

Try rigging the line differently. Use a running sinker above the swivel and allow some slack line. Bottom feeders like drum and spotted grunter which feed on benthic invertebrates generally have more sensitive mouths and reject the bait if they feel resistance. The object is not to feel the bite but to allow them to pick up the bait properly and then swallow it.
