Thanks for the video. Next time if you want medium rare set the temp to 128 degrees instead of 135 to account for the rise in temp while it's resting. That'll get you more of a medium rare. Just an fyi

Since it was brought up several times in the video, I just bought one of these and the instructions state it is NOT dishwasher safe. However, the Meater website says it IS dishwasher safe. I'll probably stick with hand washing, just in case. These things are not cheap.

I've reached out to Meater for clarification. So far they have not responded. My guess is that they have performed further testing and concluded it holds up in the dishwasher, but never got around to updating the instruction leaflet.

For anyone interested, I got a response from Meater (Apption Labs, technically, but I suspect I'm not the only one who had no idea that's the actual company name): "After further testing, we’ve determined that our probes can be put through the dishwasher! It's best to put it on the top rack further from the heating element. We do still recommend washing the probes by hand whenever possible. "

You overcooked It. The temp in the app said your target was 135 and you cooked It to over 150…not sure where the confusion is. If you would have pulled It out at 130 and let It rest, It would have been a perfect medium rare. Haha.

With a steak that size, if rested properly before cooking, will raise anywhere from 8-12 degrees after final rest. For medium rare the steak should be taken off heat at 116-122 degrees internal temp, depending on the temperature you’re cooking at.

@@TailgatingChallenge bought it ca 3,5 years ago and I think it has gotten a lot worse lately. It eats a battery every second week, even without use. You can say 3,5 years is good, but for the price I expected more.

Haha that’s fair this was more for demo Purposes on how it works. Obviously bigger pieces of meat is where the big value is with this:)
