I have the Typhur Sync, and I have found the predictions it makes to be pretty accurate. This allows me to get sides together at the right time so it all ends up on the table together. It was the surprise feature that I really like, that I wasn't expecting when I bought it.

Thank for your reviews and comparisons. I rarely leave comments but i do want to say thank you for your structured reviews. Personally it was a toss up between the Typhur and the M2+, and I would have gone with Typhur if not for the fact that their app isn’t supported in Singapore on the AppStore. I’m guessing that most of your audience are in the US, but it might be a good PSA for anyone outside the country to check if the app is supported in their local country before buying it. I decided on the M2+ in the end - I love most things about it, except that I would really like 2 probes instead of just 1. Anyway thank you again for such awesome videos!

Great review! I'm all in on the Combustion, Inc. system. Love it. I had WAY too many connectivity issues with my Meater Block and original Meater+ and have since sold them both. The Typher seems to have much to recommend it, but that thicker probe would be an instant deal breaker for me. As you correctly point out earlier in this video--and I was surprised you didn't mention it again in your wrap-up at the end--that thicker probe makes tracking temp on thinner, more delicate items (like salmon and fish, in general) really difficult to do. And yet those are the items where you most need a really accurate thermometer.

According to the manufacturer, the Meater 2 Pro is submersible, and suitable for use in sous vide cooking. Do you know if the other two are similarly suitable for under-water use, and able to handle a vacuum when sealed into a sous vide bag? I'm also curious about suitability for use in a pressure cooker, though who knows if the signal could get out. The meater 2 folks say they haven't tested for that. I'd think the temperature should be no problem (wouldn't get above 250°F) but who knows about the pressure.
@tomwadek8 ай бұрын
I wouldn't have that answer for you. A pressure cooker would introduce a lot of stress to the internal components. I would advise against it. As far as sous vide, my gut tells me it should be fine. Other brands like the Meatstick 4x I believe can be used for sous vide. Cheers!

As far as range is concerned, it's hard to argue with ThermoWorks' 433 MHz transceiver over the competition's 2.4 GHz in terms of building penetration and range. It's also got 4 thermistors per probe, the probes can withstand up to 1000 °F, and the wireless gateway can handle up to 50+ probes simultaneously. No idea about the thermistor spacing, though. I'm hoping they're equidistant like the Combustion Inc.
@nonapplicable95902 ай бұрын
Last comment as someone who works in cyber .. it’s not always as simple as adding the WiFi capability in the stand, it has to be added in the probe also to connect, which is why I think The Typhur is thicker

Eh, Wi-Fi transceivers are not appreciably larger than any other 2.4 GHz transceiver. Most Wi-Fi/Bluetooth ICs are combo ones that take up no additional space.

Hard to say. Depends on what you are cooking and the feature that are most important to you. The MEATER has a 1000F limit for the ambient temp that is useful for searing. It’s also thinner. The Typhur is an all in one 2 probe wifi package but thicker.

The Typhur sync is clearly a winner. Yes, it is a LITTLE thicker, but you forgot to mention its probes can run up to 50HRS fully charged! It is 5.4 Bluetooth while meater 2 plus is 5.2.. Combustion inc handle feels cheap being only ceramic and I would not dare to sear with it and the display has to be by the grill, mine looses connection if I take it in-house.

For that reason you have the booster, which you can leave next to the grill, the you can take the Display inside 😉 And there should be comming also the Wifi update of the app, so that would also help with connection. Searing with the combustion is also not really a problem for me - for one, you don't need a ripping hot grill/pan to get a nice sear, but even if you do, as long as you flip it every 30secondy, I didn't got over the temp limit..

The multi-sensors seem perfect for proteins that cook at different rates ... like salmon or chicken that's really thick in the middle, or a ribeye with a huge cap/deckle, or your beef wellington. But the sensors in the M2+ and Typhur seem to be all jammed together. Combustion seems like the only device that'll handle the beef wellington ... at all. The MeatStick 4X sensors are spread out, but the 6mm probe (vs 4.8 Combustion) seems way too big for a salmon. MeatStick's Chef 4X seems nicely spread out, and the probe is a bit thinner 5.5mm, but it's really short. Do you think the Combustion is the only choice for something like salmon or chicken? Or is the Chef 4X a legitimate alternative?

One thing I'd like from these types of devices is a completely open API. They shouldn't force me to use their app, because what happens when the company goes out of business or decides to release a new product and deprecate the old one? Suddenly your otherwise perfectly fine thermometer stops working. If you think that'll never happen, look at all the smart home devices that have stopped working because of things like this. Why would a meat thermometer be any different?

The Typhur Sync range is greatly exaggerated. I bought it and had problems with the Bluetooth range. This is the response from Typhur: Verify Proximity Between Base and Probe: Ensure that the distance between the base and the probe is not too far. If the distance exceeds 10 meters/32 feet, the probe and base may repeatedly attempt to connect, leading to intermittent disconnection issues. That’s it. 32 feet range from the probe to the base. Might as well have a wired thermometer sitting on the pellet hopper.

@@tomwadek Bluetooth is how the probe connects with base unit. The base unit connection to my WiFi is fine. If the probe loses connection with the base then nothing works. Typhur claims a Bluetooth range of 400’ unobstructed, 135’ obstructed. I had connection issues with probe inside a covered smoker and the base inside the house roughly 35’ away. Typhur replied to my inquiry by saying the obstructed distance beyond 10 meters (32’) could result in intermittent disconnections between the probe and base.
@tomwadek3 ай бұрын
@@waymor2460 Yeah, that is true, bluetooth drastically is impacted by obstructions. I just leave the base unit next to the grill and monitor from anywhere (WIFI) on my phone. Try that out. As I demonstrated in the video, I went to get some gas and was still connected through my phone.

@@tomwadek You’re right, just not happy with the deceptive marketing. One of the main reasons I chose the Typhur was the base with the display. When I use the smoker I’m usually cooking for a group of family and friends so I’m pretty busy away from the smoker. Having the display sitting in the kitchen would be very convenient as I wouldn’t have to constantly pull out my phone to check the smoker or meat temp.
