So...just a follow up on my last comment. I received some Amazon gift cards for my birthday, "free money", so I bought the Typhur Sync probes. I absolutely love them. So handy. I reach for them before my wired Thermoworks probes 90% of the time. We'll see how the lift span thing goes, but highly recommend. Thanks for the review!

No problem glad you like the review. The sync is just so easy to use and having the option to be able to run out and still monitor the cook is a game changer.
@greg28656 ай бұрын
FYI. You can add custom alerts in the Meater app. That means you could have put one at 95 and/or 100 to pull off the PR and monitor the internal temp while bringing the grill up to a sear temp. I just learned that trick and it is a game changer for things like this and time to wrap, etc.

I'm using my meater 2+ for the first time now, and I am not having an accurate reading of the ambient temp. Right now its stabilized to around a 15°C difference, but in the beginning it was as much as 25°C. Im using the Thermaworks ChefAlarm to measure the ambient with a probe at the grate right next to the Meater 2+
@SmokestackJoes4 ай бұрын
With any wireless meat thermometer you are going to have the ambient temp off until the meat starts to warm up. since the ambient temp sensor is attached to the internal sensor it draws the cooler temp from inside the meat to the ambient sensor. Its just a flaw that all wireless thermometers have so youll just have to know early on that your ambient temp is probably higher then what you are seeing.
@AlexeyDneprАй бұрын
@@SmokestackJoes and the ceramic zirconium insert (separator) can't separate the external sensor? And it's also interesting, somewhere I saw a comparison of the accuracy of external sensors on such wireless thermometers and TempSpike showed itself best. Perhaps its sensor is installed at the very end on the end of the probe, and in others it is closer to the meat.

Excellent video! I do have a couple of additional points, though. You mentioned that the Typhur has an advantage in that it comes with 2 probes whereas the Meater 2 Plus comes with only the one. True, but the Meater App handles up to 4 probes so if more than one is desired, they can be added. And yes, I know it will end up costing more, but it can be done. Also, the Typhus actually comes with either 2 or 4 probes, again, for more money, of course! So yes, the equivalent capacity will cost more for the Meater than the Typhur ... agreed. There is one problem with using multiple Meater probes that I don't like. The probes are identical and are not labeled with a number or anything like the Typhur. That makes is harder to keep them apart when grilling multiple cuts of meat. Myself? I bought two Meater 2 plus units mainly because of the thinner probes as I often grill thinner cuts and they mess up the meat less. Also, I personally like the Meater App user interface better. That, of course, is only personal preference.

Great comment thank you. I agree that I do like the meater probes better then the typhur.

@@SmokestackJoesjust a note about the probe diameters. The Typhur Quad probes are smaller in diameter ( 4.82mm) than those in the Typhur Sync 2-pack (6.1mm). That also makes them even slightly more slender than the Meater 2 (5mm)!

I'm glad it was helpful. Honestly whichever one you go with will be fine. If you want the capability of being able to monitor the cook anywhere over wifi without the use of another device, go with the typhur, plus you get 2 probes with it.

I’m going to say this based on this review, this is probably better than the Meater Block. The Meater Block, and I have several units, has been nothing but trouble. In multiple units that I have I must add. Customer service with Meater (apption labs) is absolutely horrible! So if Typhur’s customer service is better than Meater, which shouldn’t be difficult to achieve, then I’ll roll with the Typhur.

What no one talks about is when the life of the rechargeable battery in the probe itself goes out, as all batteries do, they can't be replaced. You're left with a boat anchor. I guess I'm old, but having to buy new again in 5 to 7 years is unacceptable.

@SmokestackJoes3 ай бұрын
The connectivity issues when using in a smoker is a big issue. You will have lower ambient temps with most wireless thermometers because the ambient temp sensor is attached to the probe which is inside the cold piece of meat, this allows the cold temp to be pulled into your ambient temp sensor. once the meat starts getting to a higher temp your ambient will be more accurate
