I’ve been using MEC 600jr since I was 5. My Dad has always reloaded and he passed the tradition down to me. Now that we live in separate states I have my own equipment. They are all MEC, 2 600jrs, and a sizemaster. They are the best. 👍🏼

I always mount my press on a cookie sheet to prevent the accidental spillage of shot from going all over the floor.

I use a pizza pan since it has rolled-up edges since it always keeps the powder and shot in the pan where as a cookie sheet doesnt have rolled-up edges

Thanks for doing a presentation on this little work horse of a press. I've had one for many years and it produces excellent reloads from trap loads to heavy turkey and goose loads. Unless I start trap or skeet this is my goto press.

MEC 600JR Mk V is solid, tight, does a great job, and worth every dollar spent on it. Additional charge bars and powder bushings are reasonably priced and their service is excellent. I have one of these and one of the Lee Load All. Lee has a selection of powder and shot bushings, but many will never be used and some smaller powder bushings do not exist. This makes better shotshells with a better crimp and more consistent load. There is much less powder leakage and waste with the MEC. It also is easier to unload the unused powder and shot with the backwards tilting individual containers rather than having both containers part of the same unit in the Lee. Yes, it costs about 4 times more, but it is worth it. If you are debating and have the cash go with the MEC.

I noticed they have a brass washer now. I bought mine about 30 years ago and they didn't use them. I recently started using Titewad powder and it threw it everywhere. Called MEC and told them the problem, he said "Do you have the brass washer in?". I said no..never got 1. Then he said we never put them in back then...well duh!!! Figured they would have sent 1 for free but nope..had to buy one.

All you need is a good C clamp to fasten down the press. Been using one for 40 years.

I like the mec 600 loaded 1000s and 1000s of shells. Also had a lot of luck with red dot powder and rem 209 primers

1 sujustion use the bigger hopper for powder. Useing the bigger one for shot is to much weight on it and if you tip it back to change powder bushing you may find that the shot will knock out upper plug and shot goes every where. plus its easyer to add shot to small as you need it. i have a versa max sence 1978 that MEC made and still use it but now more for steel shot reloading.

Lee Lyman or maybe NOE has something in a mold. This should get interesting.

7/8oz Lee slug mold which is a foster type design and the Lyman are the shape of pellets for bb guns. You would definitely save money loading slugs and buckshot though.

Thank you for the good video! Would you consider making a video showing a gauge conversion on this press? Eg. 20 gauge to 12 gauge. I've seen other videos showing the conversion 2-3/4" to 3" but not one gauge to another. I know guys will recommend a press for each gauge, but I'm trying to minimize clutter and would like to load 10, 12 and 16 gauge and don't want three presses sitting around. Thanks for your always helpful videos!

Nice timing on this video for me! I'm very close to purchasing a progressive shotshell reloader. I've been studying your videos on the Hornady 366 and the RCBS Grand. I'm currently running a Hornady LNL AP for rifle, but honestly I think the RCBS grand has the edge over the 366 in shotshell. I'm stoked that you're now reviewing a Mec to give me more to look at. I'm most interested in the often overlooked details, such as how simple the UNLOADING process is (powder and shot), if the wad insertion and priming action are reliable and worry-free, etc. I realize you probably won't be able to compare one press against another in your vids, but if you can show us the little details that will greatly help me make up my mind. Thanks for everything! By the way - are you still running that Dewalt battery camera rig? :-)

Stuart Brazile I would go with the RCBS Grand. I have pretty much all of MECs reloaders and hands down the RCBS Grand is the best.

This will be a nice change, I bought there high end press 4 years ago and it is still in box because I have not exhausted my inventory of shells yet. The only problem I have always had is there isn't a press that will do 28 ga to 12 ga. Like brass presses. If there is someone please tell me

Question to anyone bothered to read and reply: How much are steel nr 7 shotshell for skeet/trap in US, per shot? In sweden they are like 15 cents a shot (steel, US7 24 gram), sometimes cheaper. But that can be put in comparison 1 galon of gasoline here is $6,30 per galon converted.. So basicly, i cant even order plastig wads for that price much less reload for the same cost.

I've been reloading pistol and rifle for years and I thought lately of doing shotgun. Not sure if it's really cost-effective when a box of 25 shells for trap runs anywhere from 450 to 5 dollars a box it might not be worthwhile.

According to the MEC website, this 20 gauge version comes with three powder bushings, the #20, #22, and #24, as well as the 7/8 oz charge bar.

Its a shame lead shot has gotten so high. I reloaded lead shot for many years. I have my Mec set up running steel shot for doves no.6 steel and no 3 steel and 2 steel for area's i can not use lead shot for hunting, rabbit, squirrel,ducks,geese.

You make some very nice videos however it is probably do to the fact that I just purchased my reloader and this is an older video. Having said that my reloader came with more parts (all plastic) and the instructions must be for older reloaders because nowhere in the instructions does it show how or where to attach them. I will have to contact Mec tomorrow and find out where/how they attach to the reloader. I am new to reloading and thus far am not very impressed with the quality of this product.
