This is my newest edition, the MEC 9000GN progressive press where we will be taking it out of the box and setting it up. We walk though some of the basics on this video, the simple set up and functions. We will follow up with a part 2 where we will show some final adjustments and recap on the process. This MEC 9000 is very easy to set up, all you need is about 30 minutes or less.
I own 3 MEC presses now and I love them all. I'll be converting the 600jr over to steel shot very soon, stay tuned for that video.

Kurt i used to shoot trap semi competitive ly and would go thru about 250-300 shells a week. I was spending 2-3 hrs each night on a 600 to just replace what i would shoot on weekend. I got a 9000 and never looked back. You can crank out about 150 shells an hour with it. In fact you really have to pay attention to primer,powder and shot level. You can run out pretty easily

This is the model I want to get when they become available once again. I had a MEC 600 Jr many years ago and sold it because it was too slow. It took forever to get a box of 25 done and much longer to do a couple hundred. I have Dillon RL-550B and XL-750 presses. I would be interested in their SL-900 if it wasn't $1,500. The MEC 9000GN is much more affordable and also a great press. It will fit my needs much better than the 600 Jr I once had. It won't take me many years, even a decade to break even over buying store bought shotgun shells either. I'm in once I can get one. Right now everything and anything is out of stock or scalpers are x 1.5 or x 2 the price. I will wait until they come back down to normal.

At minute 4:15, you remove the little red cap from the top of the DePrime & Crimp station. Just a suggestion, but I'd leave that cap in place until just about everything else is set up. I know that YOU would never spill shot all over everything ,,, but I'm not that lucky. And it sucks to have to disassemble the crimp station to get all of the shot out of it. 😞 Great video, btw. I bought the Mec 9000GN without doing much research. Been reloading metallic for years on a Hornady L-n-L. Figured get a progressive press for shotshell as well. I dont do much trap or skeet. But I do hunt a LOT of ducks. Which means I need steel. So, I saw that Mec has a "steel conversion kit" for the 9000. So I got that too. I absolutely hate it. The steel shot will get stuck in the drop tube, spilling shot everywhere! Not to mention finding supplies (even back a few years ago), such as steel wads, that are already slit. Finding recipes has also been a challenge. Unlike rifle or pistol, you cant mix and match manufactures of hulls. Some hulls work with some wads, some do not. Its very confusing. So my press is still set up on the bench, mostly brand new, with a steel conversion kit, next to several bags of various "steel" wads, bags of steel shot, buckets of used hulls. And until I figure this thing out, thats how its going to remain. I even asked a hunting forum what I'm doing wrong. They basically laughed at me. Said I need to read some books and buy different supplies that no one seemed to have or make anymore. bah!

I always used Hodgdon Hi-Skor 700X powder for my 12 gauge reloads years ago. It worked extremely well for a 2 3/4" 1 1/8 oz #9 shot load. You will find out Winchester AA hauls work THE BEST by a landslide margin. Others will do in a pinch but not like those.

I was wondering if you ( or anyone reading this) have used the Ballistic Products Adjusta-Drop universal charge bar. I get rather tired of switching out bushings and the powder drop is never where I actually want it. Seems like this would be a way to adjust both powder and shot drop exactly where you want. They are pricey, so wanted to know if it was a worthwhile upgrade.
@vaughnprecision
@vaughnprecision 6 ай бұрын
I personally haven’t used it, but I’ve been looking at it recently. Yes, rather pricey but if you do a lot of reloading it’s probably worth the cost. If I do get one, I’ll shoot a video on it, maybe BallisticProducts would be interesting in sending one for review..? Might have to reach out and ask them.

My Spolar gold premier is a better loader but at 4x the price the MEC. This is a great and affordable alternative and that is why MEC has more loaders in circulation than any other brand. Also the automate is a stroke of genius if you convert it for a foot pedal. The only thing that really seems to be lacking is a swingout wad guide, even in your video you had fingers inside when you were staring your downstroke.

I did some very minor adjustments but honestly it would’ve run just fine without doing that. I wanted a slightly deeper crimp was the only reason. Now yours might not come that way, you may need to make some fine adjustments or get it to your liking. Me and several friends still run these machines hard and they work well. I plan on posting an update on this machine in the late spring as sporting clays really kicks off.

Good to see you doing better 👍 Great video, I've had the 9000 for a few years and recently got a marksman. Love them both. My 9000 crimp station has recently started squashing the rims of the hulls. I found that if I resize seperatly and then go through the rest of the stations it works great. I have cleaned the station of all debris and tried to adjust to no avail. Any suggestions would be great.
@vaughnprecision
@vaughnprecision 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't come across that yet with my machine. I would check 2 things and you already did the first one. The next thing I would look at is the adjustment on the crimp station. Come think of it I would also check the pre-crimp to make sure the opening on the pre-crimp is smaller then the size of a 209 primer.
