I don’t have any more room for powder, primers and ammunition. Cabelas had a HUGE sale on military overrun 12 gauge buck about 10 years ago. I bought several thousand rounds. Then they chopped the price on Hornady high velocity 12 gauge buck… and I bought a truckload of that. The reason I bought so much is that I scooped-up a number of High Standard Riot guns when various police departments traded all their pump guns off for automatics.

I have the MEC 9000GN for 12 gauge shotgun shell reloading. I used to have a MEC 600 JR in the early 90's that I sold because it was a bit slow. Both work great and produce factory quality shotgun shells. We used to shoot a lot of trap. It wasn't uncommon to blow through 3 or 4 cases of clays and TWO .50 cal ammo cans full of reloaded shot shells. Always used and preferred Hodgdon 700X powder, Winchester AA hauls and wads, Winchester #209 primers and #8 or #9 lead shot in 1 1/8 oz. It busts them up really well and just leaves pulverized poofs of dusts you don't have to clean up. Using #6 to #7 1/2 shot tends to break off large chunks that need cleaning up. Shotguns..... H&R singe shot 28" 12 gauge single shot....my first and got it when I was 12. Mossberg 590 12 gauge Military Police...9 shot pump with ghost ring sights, heat shield and bayonet lug. Benelli M3 select fire (semi/pump) 12 gauge with pistol grip stock and ghost ring sights. They are very very rare and hard to come by. Remington (1998) pre Freedom Group 11-87 Premier 12 gauge semi auto with fancy stock, engraving etc..etc.. My favorite clay/trap shotgun by far. Old Stevens 311 stage coach double barrel shotgun. I bought it used from a 85 year old man 30 years ago and he had to have had it at least that long himself. It's pre Savage Stevens if that tells you anything. Mossberg 590 Shockwave 12 gauge pump.....my SBS/AOW without the NFA red tape. It's great for CQB and up close. Working on a childhood lifelong friend to get my Mossberg 500 12 gauge pump with nice premium checkered wood stock I sold him decades ago back. The new ones have crappy cheap wood or synthetic stocks. I foolishly sold him that with 3 barrels.... 28" vent rib with all 3 chokes, 24" rifled slug/rifle sights barrel, 18" riot barrel with pistol grip and heat shield for $300. He says we can talk about it as he never uses it anymore and it just sets in the safe. I shot that one a lot back in the day.

@tomlanore4283 3 жыл бұрын
Been using Mec loaders for roughly 15 years. The final crimp you had on the loaded shell is over crimped. As long as you are within safe load data on that shell you need to back off the final crimp die until the tips of the crimp come to the center as close as possible without the twist look on the crimp folds. Just look at any factory shell crimp to see what I mean. There is no amount of pressure required when making the final crimp so like metallic reloading you can go by feel of the press lever and checking crimp to see when you have the correct amount of crimp. Long story short. With the factory setting on your new press with no adjustments and loading the way you did that round you do not want to add more filler inside the shell. That will only make exaggerated the over crimp you are getting now. Actually the crimp is almost to the point the end of the shell won't be closed after you try to apply the crimp. It will bulge leaving an open hole in the middle.

Yep definitely will do some fine tuning. It was just the first loaded shell... just surprised it come out as good as it did I guess. 👍

Ah, my first press. I started out by mounting it to a 2x4 and clamping it to my coffee table. I spent a lot of time picking shot off a black rug. 🤦‍♂️ Watch that roll pin in the final crimp. The hole on mine wallowed out, became loose and the pin would back out, let the roller fall, and ruin crimps. Replaced under warranty. Fixing the swirl is explained on page 9 of the manual. Depending on your needs, an adjustable drop bar and powder baffle can be nice additions. I have the 2-1/2" short shell kit, but just found that they have one for 1-7/8" mini shells that comes with a shortened final crimp. BPI has brass crimp starters for virgin hulls. Straight wall hulls are much more forgiving than tapered. European data is more about achieving the right shot column height than the actual components involved.

@@elvisammo The Russians have so many unique slug designs. It's like going to the candy store. I've had a couple from AS Molds featured on TFM. The "Twister" (twice with different wads), and the "Shot-mini". They use different core pins to make different variations from their respective molds. The Twister has 4, and the Shot-mini has 2. So far he's shot one (the lightest) variation (the lightest) from each. ASM also has some interesting bullet molds.

I have one of these MEC units. I gotta say, Once it is set up for the load you desire.. You can punch through about 15 loaded shells a minute, clamly. Especially if you get the primer feeder pull chain tray to auto drop the the primer down to the die foot. My unit is about a 10 to 15 year old unit, but, not much has changed on these MEC unit. Why change a great thing with they work wonderfully, and predictably, and reliably. The only issue that my unit ever had, which has been rectified, is the bottles, which are plastic. The bottles from back in the day, the plastic was exceptionally thin, and with the long bottle for the lead shot, well, if you tapped or bump it wrong, the plastic would crack.. Like I said, they have rectified that issue, and the new bottle I got and what comes with the past several years in the kits, are a really nice and heavy plastic, I mean the plastic is heavy duty, especially in the "would be" high stress area of the bottle, like the neck area or the bottom round flat corner edge. The price for these units, for the brand name these are, I could afford one, and I am not rich at all, in fact, I am a broke joke, but these are worth it, if you do any measure of sport shot gun shooting, trap or skeet shooting... To really hone the rifle shotgun to be even more competitive. Good luck everybody, that is my two cents on the matter at hand.. I like this machine. I am glad I got it. Oh, an one last thing, it may look complicated, NAH, it is not, and it is pretty hard to screw the process up, and I am kinda a dummy, so, there you go, enjoy and be safe all.

Ok...the only caution I would give you at this stage is to NOT buy a case of Winchester AA wads on sale, and then not use 3 or 4 bags for 20 years or more. Plastic deteriorates and becomes brittle, won't load without breaking petals off and and won't shoot for crap either. I know I tried,lol

Great video Elvis! I purchased the load all II just before the great shortage of 2020 lol. I tried to make heads or tails out of what wads and hulls to buy. Well after I figured out ones I wanted to start out with I ordered Wads and primers then went to order hulls and they were sold out. So now ive been stuck with wads, primers and no hulls lol. To be honest I don't have any shot either. So I quit trying to figure it out and have a brand new press that's collecting dust lol.
