Product Demo: 650N Shotshell Reloader and Super-Sizer

I absolutely love MEC products. Use to use Super sizer with my Hornady 366. What a pleasure. Then took the plunge sold the 366 and got the 9000e. But fitted this week after a year the Creative Solutions Ultimate punch. And use their cutter to square hulls. Absolutely a must for old hulls. To avoid possible crashes. Also moved the Wadd finger just a little lower to get them deeper into re used hulls to avoid crashes. But MEC machines are winners. I live in South Africa. So with shipping and only one importer. Parts and machines are however more expensive then in USA by about 50 to 70% of shown. As the 9000e here is $2500 to buy. So its not cheap over here. But well worth it at the end I think for the end result if you have the funds. As I would love another small unit like the Sizemaster as well.

I have a 650N and love it. I bought it used and have put many miles on it. I need some parts for it but you discontinued the model. I much prefer the old style red wad fingers to the new replacement black style. If you have any red ones in old stock I would like to get one. Thanks for making such a good product.

I have the super sizer I bent the handle angled down much more comfortable on the hand do not use resizer on the grabber took it off powder shot and grass not a good mix

Why have you discontinued the 650N - I have a super 600 and use it every week -

Thanks for commenting. Sales on the 650N models were declining as many users wanted the built in resizer which the 650N model did not include. The 8567N model is the next model up, similar to the 650N, and has the built in collet resizer.

My workaround. I now use Lee for sizing only instead of buying a hundred-dollar device. Note. I only had a lee and then bought the mec 650

why isn't it dropping powder when there's no shell?

Doesn’t the first station on a MEC 600 Jr resize the hull, so if I have one I don’t need to get the separate resizer to use with a 650?

I'm just getting into reloading. Have mainly focused on researching and learning about metallic reloading. Would eventually like to add shotshell to my skillset. Didn't know shotshells needed or could be resized. What exactly is being resized? Didn't look like the body went into anything. Also, is this only manually indexed or can it also auto index?

Hi Gerry, Thanks for commenting. The brass portion on the shell will expand when fired and will need to be resized back to factory specs before reloading again. The 650N is the only MEC reloader without a built in brass resizer so we then recommend resizing the shells in the MEC Super Sizer prior to reloading the shells on this model. The 650N is a progressive reloader although the shells need to be manually rotated by hand. The only auto indexing reloaders would be the 9000 series. Station 1 deprime-resize? resize what? you just got done using a separate collet sizer on the hulls. Explain please

Hi Frederick, Thank you for commenting. The Super Sizer will resize the brass back to factory specs. Then it needs to go through the first station on the 650N to deprime the shell. The resize part here refers more towards the decapper that has decapping pin and then wider section on top. The wider section opens the old fold a bit and slightly sizes the opening part. Or thats what happens on my 9000 press. However I changed mine in this week to the Creative Solutions Ultimate punch. Which I now highly recommend to anyone with a MEC press. Other option I used was to use heat shrink over the depriming punch to flare the case more. As in adequate flare of old fold crimp open will cause a crash at Wadd station. Which is kinda messy on a 9000e press. I also moved my wadd fingers a little lower to avoid crashes. So the fingers goes slightly deeper into old hulls. If not deep enough one or two will jump over hull old fold. Wadd will hit side of hull and crash machine.

I just bought one of these presses. I tried it tonight but mine throws powder and shot whether or not there is a shell in the slot or not. Is it supposed to do that? I see that yours didn't throw powder and shot when there wasn't a hull in the slot.

as of late 2022, if you pick up hulls for free, and buy your other components at cost from a gun club, the best you're going to do is around $.27/shell, or around $6.50/box.
