You Sir are a legend. I have loaded 12 gauge in a earlier model for years, but as having a terrible time, setting up for .410. Your idea of using a factory shell to set up crimping saved an enormous amount of pain. Thank you very much.

Great video! Only thing I do differently is to adjust the drop charge/rammer to seat against a wad that's been inserted with no powder in the hull. In that manner, when powder is in the hull, taking up a bit of space under the wad, the spring tension on the rammer will engage. That spring tension (if reasonable) does not hurt a thing. However, should I fail to charge a hull for some reason, I'll be alerted to the mishap though lack of spring tension as I seat the wad. Modern wads do not need any "tension" at all, but it doesn't hurt nor disrupt things in the final shell assembly. All in all, a great video!

Thank you Sir, Well Done. I recently acquired a 600 Jr. at a garage sale, and saw it lacked a few parts. It came without a manual, but a quick look on-line found the exploded views and assorted paperwork. I had to hand a laminator, so once that was dealt with I had a semi-permanent reference to keep with the machine. After a quick parts order, it was assembled, but then, what to do for good loads? Your video has answered my questions on all adjustments, and precisely done. I will be ordering the appropriate charge bars and bushings as I get things sorted. Thanks much!

turbobarrels Thanks for that. In our previous exchange about a year ago, we talked about fibre vs. plastic wads and the reason why. In the interim I see that MEC have now come out with a biodegradable version, though I haven't used it and can't speak for it. This would certainly save the wads-lying-about problem in the long run; whether it would ease farmers' concerns about their livestock is of course another matter. I am guessing, though, that fibre wad reloading components are accordingly still quite prevalent in your neck of the woods compared to here (Canada).

Thanks for the video, I appreciate your issues but I have found over the years for consistency the following should be adhered to, use the same make of hulls, be consistent on wad choice, if you want to load a different guage buy a second machine. Then a great deal of set up wont be necessary.

I think you might be reinventing some of how these work. See previous comment about 6 vs 8 crimp dies - no bar removal required. Also I think your conclusions re pressure on the wad insertion are suspect. The wad ram according to other instructions is intended to exert specific pressure. Why they have a gauge - yes?

Any reason for the card and fiber wad? How does that effect shot pattern? Why not plastic wads with shotcups? Guess it's easier to adjust shot payload just by adding more cards and adjusting powder charge.

Almost looks like you are reloading 20 guage 3 inch on a 12 guage 2 3/4 die set. Neeed a six point crimp rather than an 8 point crimp starter so you do not have to cut it. Perhaps riase the colum of the loder at the stand to properly reload 3 inch shells. I may be very wrohg but it is difficult to tell from this video.

Your problem with the extra "Bars" in the crimping stage is this,-MEC makes a 6 point crimp and an 8 point crimp depending on shell manufacturers. You had the wrong crimping collet in the press. A 6 point crimped shell needs a press set up with a 6 point collet. And an 8 point shell needs an 8 point collett. Switching the two will only bugger up the top of the shell.
@turbobarrels
@turbobarrels 8 жыл бұрын
+popoaggie Thanks for comments. You didn't look at the video properly, please look again. Yes, there is a 6 point and 8 point crimp option. UK shells are 6point. There may be some 8 point, but I have never personally come across such. The "bars" I was referring to can be seen in the picture. They are not for folding in the crimps, be it 6 or 8, they are there apparently to hold the shell from spinning. Unfortunately, its a bad design and is overly aggressive. It only seems to make "dips" in the case between the crimp folds. Cut them away and end op problem!
@turbobarrels
@turbobarrels 8 жыл бұрын
+turbobarrels To prove my point, I adapted a pre crimp from a Lee Loadall and fitted it to the Mec. Lee are way ahead of Mec on the pre crimp forming, and by using this, I have factory finish quality shells.
@popoaggie
@popoaggie 8 жыл бұрын
+turbobarrels I reload Remington STS shells. The 8 points do seem to crimp easier. I had trouble with Federal shells. The plastic they use might be different. Smooth sided hulls are generally easier to reload. MEC makes brass crimp collets that are better then the plastic ones that come with the presses.

Yes. Seat your wad with a piece of dowel or similar so you know its not over pressured and then pop the shell back in the mec and drop your rammer tube until it sits on the wad and tighten. You then know its all subsequent wads will be at that pressure.
