CPU is quite weak and 4GB of RAM is like a lower limit for modern device. It should perform around RPi 4 level of performance, which is pretty slow in many cases. Also no Vulkan support (GLES 2.0, not even 3), I think GPU here would perform even worse than RPi4's

I just noticed that. It's the same chip in the Librem 5 phone.

Hm. Hopefully they can up the specs before starting mass production.

Finally! Some real and interesting tech here, without the AI incrusted into the name or into the OS. Repairable, with a real keyboard and an Allen wrench? I need one!

One controller that could have a lot of usecases would be something with one or two analog sticks, then this could be used as a handy advanced controller for many robotics applications too, in place of the rather big expensive controllers used around industrial robots. Typically they are big clunky heavy things compared to this, when a fair bit of their use may be to test a single axis or a specific sequence of movements. You can of course relatively easily build a Zigbee or similar controller like a console controller, but it would lack the on-the-fly reconfiguration and advanced features this would bring to the table since with this you could swap the controller for the keyboard if you need to change a parameter somewhere, which you could do via wifi remoted in to whatever controls the robot. Just one idea of a usecase that this would be a small and very handy tool for. You could save a trip to a controlroom or having to have another person there with walkietalkies etc.

This feels like the realization of so much of the tech we have been promised over the years, but my favorite features of this are its thickness, the open source ecosystem(even down to the cad files), and its design(somehow i feel like i could fit this in with whatever asthetic someone might have

This kind of innovation and thinking is what we need more of. It reminds me of the scene from the Blackberry movie where they showed the prototype to the Cingular board. Add 4G to this lil guy, and I no longer need a smart phone, and I am so here for that!!!

These would work fantastic in commercial settings - For example internet engineers rely on proprietary testers for their work and something like this, especially being modular, could be very useful for maintaining these devices into the future. Amazing.

Summed it up PERFECTLY! But, come on, this does not HAVE to be nefarious. I love the thought of being able to hack my own devices with ease and in a portable form factor. F the people who use it for bad things! Keep coding people!

I truly hope this reaches the mass market. Modular phones are a clear need - this is massive leaps and bounds into the ability/right to repair fight! I want this!

A shame that it uses USB-A, considering that Type-C beats it in every way.
