Hey Nate, I’ve got a story I think you’ll like. My old coworker used to work at jiffy lube before we wound up at the same place. The reason he left jiffy lube, was because his manager and district manager would take customers air filters and drag them on the ground underneath where they do the oil changes. In those dirty pits. Then they would show the customers to sell a filter. He was directly being told to do so by all of managers. To me that is absolutely insane. I will never go there for any reason. I’ve also seen half a dozen cars come to my shop after going there because they screwed something up and I just had to send them back.

I went in for an alignment 10 minuets later they siad i needed new tires. I didnt need new tires and said no. They said its done. I picked it up went home and jacked it up. No tool marks at all whatsoever. It needed an alignment pretty bad l. They also unplugged my 02 sensor. Every firestone I've went to has ripped me off.

On my 06 Sierra Denali they (small name oil change shop) tried texting me a picture of a random dirty engine air filter, I have a K and N. Then finally, I started leaking like 2 months later when I checked my dip stick. They were reusing an old drain plug and didn’t offer to sell me that lol. Sad to say, but they lost my business. I will be doing my own oil changes now. Not to mention I was paying $90 for synthetic blend.

I'll be honest. For the cost of a new one and the time you spent checking you just as well put the new one in at the same time

Have you experienced The legendary Upsale?

Don't need to go through all that, just looking at it you can tell. Bang the old one, vacuum it and blow air through it and it will be fine.

Air filters are so easy to drop a new one in for owner's to do themselves, only get a garage to do a oil change for mine as it only takes half hour on the ramps, and oil correctly disposed as also it's hard to jack up the car on the street with other vehicles driving past nearly running over your legs and feet, cool info on not to be scammed 👍

@Nates Interactive Auto I always use my trusted local mechanic for everything. But with the air filter and cabin filter I always change out myself since I know what to look for. And when I have my trusted mechanic do a oil change I always pick up my own oil and oil filter that I know that works best for my vehicles esp since I know what gives me the best performance for my cars.

That is awesome you have a trusted mechanic and good to choose the oil you want.
