I'm not sure I'll ever take my vehicle to a garage again for an oil change. So much gasket sealer, locktite and E grease in the oil filter, the cost for parts would be more than the oil change. Repeat customers because if they thought they had oil leaks before, imagine after ten times the oil is put in. So funny this video. 😂 enjoyed the sheer fear and the humor.

I actually had a plant manager tell me this, and also...Quote "If a machine gearbox or spindle leaks , just don't fill them with oil, its less cleanup that way !!!???!!! And finally it happened..., after neglecting to replace the seals on a 750 ton press, (heavy presses are usually built into a pit in the factory floor... a seal finally blew, sprayed 450 gallons of fluid-cost $40 dollars a gallon, of sickly warm, brown/red burnt hydraulic fluid across myself and everyone within 20ft nearby. Afterwards, we discovered and pumped over 2500 gallons out from the pit, it was almost completely full... Osha, Dept of labor, Local Fire Dept, County wildlife, State Inspectors, and Epa all became involved... Yikes, all to save a few bucks on labor, that was then wasted in oil usage anyway, and then multiplied by environmental fines. $$$ X1000

Ya know, due to this video, I officially want to drive from TN to FL to get my oil change so I know its done good. Thanks for giving us all a look into how a shop does it right. One critique, pretty sure once you drain the oil and remove the filter, you're supposed to start the engine, rev to 2k RPM, for at least 10min to get the remaining oil out of the block. It's not mandatory but strongly recommended.

To be honest I have come across a garage some years back that used to operate like that. An oil change would regularly turn into a clutch replacement due to a worn shaft seal so while we do that its advised that this is done and we also found this while we were doing that. They got caught out by local trading standards officers sending a vehicle in for repair having already been fully stripped and checked prior to the action taking place. Company did what they had normally and added a ton of stuff. The owners were charged evetually with over 200 counts of frawd and d3eception over 2 years and went to Prison over it. That was back in the 1990's Im glad to say. Great video Ray, most enjoyable.

A couple of recommendations: 1. I would use a quick setting epoxy on the oil filter gasket instead of the RTV and loctite combination You used. You want to make sure that filter stays on nice and tight after all! 2. For the additional 40+ quarts of crankcase oil fill past the initial OEM spec 5 quarts, use 90 weight instead of the 15-40 weight you mentioned. That will further reduce the chance of leaks. Or … even better, moly grease.

I ask her if she filled the oil. She said it wouldn't get to the full line. I asked how much oil she put in. She said 11 quarts. She had put oil into the engine and checked the transmission fluid stick rather than the oil level stick and saw that it was still low. Called my great mechanic. He said just to bring it in. As per the work order,, the tech hooked up the A/C gauges, did a physical check around the lines and connectors, and gave the car a clean bill of health. When I asked him about the cabin air filter, he claimed he had physically checked it. I smiled a wry smile knowing this dude could not have physically checked something that was MIA! The glove box must be dropped on my Subaru to properly inspect or change it, and I left the old dirty filter out while waiting for a replacement. Not a great idea, but at least it wasn't an engine air filter.
