And finally it happened..., after neglecting to replace the seals on a 750 ton press, (heavy presses are usually built into a pit in the factory floor... a seal finally blew, sprayed 450 gallons of fluid-cost $40 dollars a gallon, of sickly warm, brown/red burnt hydraulic fluid across myself and everyone within 20ft nearby. Afterwards, we discovered and pumped over 2500 gallons out from the pit, it was almost completely full... Osha, Dept of labor, Local Fire Dept, County wildlife, State Inspectors, and Epa all became involved... Yikes, all to save a few bucks on labor, that was then wasted in oil usage anyway, and then multiplied by environmental fines. $$$ X1000

@@nickwarner8158 Ah, but beyond premium air there's helium! A car with helium-filled tires is lighter, therefore more fuel-efficient, than one with air-filled tires. Just be sure to bring the car in for regular top-ups, as helium is somewhat of an escape artist. For minimum maintenance, other the other hand, tires inflated with sulfur hexafluoride should maintain their pressure for a good long time, absent actual punctures, and the extra density of the inflation gas will add stability to the vehicle, helping it remain right side up during maneuvering. A couple of recommendations: 1. I would use a quick setting epoxy on the oil filter gasket instead of the RTV and loctite combination You used. You want to make sure that filter stays on nice and tight after all! 2. For the additional 40+ quarts of crankcase oil fill past the initial OEM spec 5 quarts, use 90 weight instead of the 15-40 weight you mentioned. That will further reduce the chance of leaks. Or … even better, moly grease.

I had a wife, literally a genius by IQ who called to say the oil was low on her 3 cylinder Geo Metro. I told her to fill it until the oil was at the full mark on the oil stick. She called back later from the highway. The car was smoking badly. I drove out to see what was happening. The car was throwing out an oily smoke screen like a war machine. I ask her if she filled the oil. She said it wouldn't get to the full line. I asked how much oil she put in. She said 11 quarts. She had put oil into the engine and checked the transmission fluid stick rather than the oil level stick and saw that it was still low. Called my great mechanic. He said just to bring it in. He drained the oil and it ran fine from then on.
