I played an 1872 E & G.G. Hook organ for 9 years. The straight flat pedal board was very tough at first. I was always playing G when I wanted F. Not good when the opening hymn is in F Major! But I got used to it pretty quickly and then it felt normal..

I loved Brennan's green socks! The organ demo was also very interesting.

What a fine instrument. Exquisite voicing and such a clear, exciting sound. A really interesting and informative demonstration with the bonus of some well played Bach. I particularly enjoyed the G major prelude. The sound reminds me of the wonderful Ahrend instrument in the Martinikerk at Groningen, NL. - very different acoustic of course.

A really "tame" sounding Flentrop organ.....Thanks for showing this instrument.....really love the Basson.....delightful playing of the JSB Chorale Prelude and Bedard (sp?)pieces and the G Major, Bach.....beautiful casework.....Thanks, guys for this video.....(and David your little g minor was superb....don't know how you could play that damned flat pedalboard!!!)

Taylor Harvey The sanctuary carpet probably tames the organ a bit. A flat pedalboard doesn't really feel that much different than an AGO pedalboard.

+OrganHunters *Flentrop was the firm behind some spectacular-sounding mechanical organs of modest size,* such as the 1958 III+P/33 build at Adolphus Busch Hall, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA, that made it onto radio with then-Columbia Masterworks artist E. Power Biggs on the bench. The Busch Hall organ packs a 32-note Pedaal with balanced trackers from a concave radiating pedalboard and suspended trackers from all three manuals. My ideal instrument would pack a 32-note concave parallel pedalboard, as I've trouble finding shoes that will allow me to split the accidentals on the AGO-spec radiating version. A practical III+P stoplist for a build for a hall sized for 1,000 might be as follows: HOOFDWERC: Zuysboorden 16, Praestant 8, Roerfliut 8,. Octaaf 4, Speelfluit 4, Quint 2-2/3, Gemshoorn 2, Ters 1-3/5, Mixtuur IV, Dulciaan 16, Trommet 8. RUGPOSITIEF: Holpijp 8, Praestant 4, Spidsfluit 4, Octaaf 2, Quintfluit 1-1/3, Scherp III, Cromhoorn 8, Clarin 4. BORSTWERC: Quintadeen 8, Coppelfluit 4, Praestant 2, Sifflet 1, Cimbel II, Vox Humana 8. PEDAAL: Contraboorden 32, Praestantbass 16, Roerboorden 16, Octaafbass 8, Gedekt 8, Choralbass 4, Nachthoorn 2, Mixtuur V, Choristfagot 32, Bazuin 16, Trommet 8. Flentrop installs couplers for any manual to pedal and any supporting manual to Hoovdwerc.

What a beautiful instrument! How well does it compliment Anglican choral literature and hymnody? When I think of Anglican sounding organs....Flentrop doesn't immediately come to mind. By the way....excellent interpretation of the Bach!

Wonderful organ, and well played. It is too bad that the acoustics in the building are so dead, though. It is impressive how well constructed the organs from Flentrop are. You get what you pay for, and I'm sure the organ was comparatively expensive to other choices that the church could have made.

Agree on all counts. There is a bit of carpet in the room but I am not sure even tearing that out would make too much improvement

Many builders would rather build a German pedalboard (straight/flat) than the AGO Concave/Radiating. It is much easier to build from a mechanical standpoint. America and England are the only countries where concave/radiating pedals are the expectation rather than the exception.

And VERY unnatural to maneuver, (straight and flat Pedalboard) given the bone and muscle structure of the human body. BUT.... knock yourself out on a medieval contraption, if you wish.

To be honest, I feel indifferent about straight or radiating pedalboards - they are both fine for me and I have no problems transitioning between them.

Please come to Ohio and do a video on the mighty Klais. klais.de/m.php?tx=132 Brought over by boat from Bonn, Germany. They also come back every so often from Germany to tune and care for the instrument. Are there no Klais organs in SC?
