I would love to see more public conversations / collaboration between Open Bionics, Ian Davis, the folks over at Naked Prosthetics and the people driving the e-nable project.

Excuse me fingers are considered a luxury? Unbelievable. People who need prosthetics should be first in line.

"fingers arent necessary to live a normal life" the doctors who said that are the biggest idiots i have ever heard of, hands are the reason we humans managed to survive for so long, because we CAN craft stuff with said hands
@KekkusMaximus2 жыл бұрын
the issue is that no doctor would say this, this was said by the insurance company which pays the doctors that do these procedures so if the insurance says no the doctor can't do the procedure without getting the money directly from you and we're talking about thousands of dollars I believe. The U.S. is every day closer to be a fully fledged dystopia thanks to shit like that

from what i know mechanical prosthetics are essentially superior in function although having fitment/attachment problems to the user. Is there any way to attach mechanical prosthetics that don't require potentially slow and unwanted electronics to full amputees that don't have any partial limb to provide torque?

"fingers are luxury" well then common sense for insurance companies are probably super power

I wonder if for residual limbs without a wrist, you could have grip strength/ force mechanically generated from the elbow, but then the other wrist movements and grip patterns ECG driven? So that you get the main benefit of mechanical designs: force feedback

Yeah. Good to know that there is good progress.

I believe the elbow would be a excellent power source for those without a wrist.

1:50 holy fuck imagine living in a country where you are being told that having a working limb is a "luxury" and so you don't *deserve* a prothesis if you "only" lost 4 out of 5 fingers in the same hand
