Mechanical Watch Timegrapher - Blessing or Curse?

FYI… Timegrapher works perfectly on a Seiko VH31b quartz mechatronic movement. It’s the first quartz movement I’ve owned that worked on a Timegrapher…. Useless but neat nonetheless.

To me the greatest advantage of a timegrapher is: it entirely takes the stress out of buying budget watches. Mine allowed me to bring several poorly performing Seiko movements to chronometer accuracy in the first attempt. I don't concern myself with position error but rather determine the daily deviation under wearing conditions and correct the dial-down rate accordingly. Some say the regulation of cheap movements is unlikely to last but so far it did to me. Awesome!

The timegrapher will work on manual wind watches too, if the watch ticks one can use a timegrapher on it.

It is a blessing because it allows people to see how poorly most mechanical watches actually perform when they are not fully wound or are being moved into the less-favoured positions. You have to spend a lot (an understatement) to get a mechanical watch that out performs even the cheapest quartz watch.

I don't think people buy affordable automatic watches with expectation it will match a quartz movements +/- 15 secs a month 😁

Nothing comes up on the timegrapher at all when you put a quartz watch on it.
