Craziest thing I personally seen that caused a tire puncture was a push rod from a small V8. The rod went in the tire between the tread valleys somehow and was rolling around inside. He, and us, figured it was just a gonna be some random chunk of metal. I walked in the lobby with a big smile and told him he won. All puzzled he asked what I meant and I reached in my pocket and said 'You won a push rod'. Still staring at me he says 'is THAT what was in the tire?!' Definitely a highlight of my tire shop days.

I have been qualified mechanic for 50+ years and I live in a country that has 6 montly safety inspection and now yearly inspections for cars under 20 years old, any kind of structural rust gets rejected until repaired by a certified bodyshop, even tho our roads never get salt on them we have many 30-40 year old cars with barely surface rust under the car, most of problems are caused by internet repairers, good for busy Monday mornings.... 90% of these chassis related problems would not occur because of our safety regulations.we do have a great number of Xbox thought driver fatalities. I'd be wondering about the health of the engine and the change intervals they're using. It just reminds me of how carboned-up engines look when people haven't changed the oil in forever. And speaking of "engine health", something people might want to consider is that if it's been a while, change the oil & filter if you know you're vehicle is coming up for an emissions inspection soon because degraded engine oil can increase emissions.

Not a official mechanic but did work in the auto feild for years and I cant agree more. My daughters boyfriend is forever saying there is this problem that problem this needs fixed and diagnosing it himself. The same guy who said he would help me change my front brake pad cuz he knew what to do but put them on backwards. Yet when I look at it tell him what I believe to be wrong or there is no issue he says, "well I dont have the money or I will have my uncle look at it". He works 5 days a week and comes home at least 3 of those days with a new "problem". Plus I have had to fix 6 of his uncle the "mechanic" fuck ups in 2yrs. Not to mention he pays his uncle but not me. But because his uncle is a "man" and had his own "repair" shop he knows more than I do. Hey I am no certified mechanic just a gal who is a shade tree for her own cars but Im not a know it all who wont ask for help or refuses to admit Im unsure of what wrong or how to fix it. There is a repair shop near me that I turn to when I need help and the owner is awesome. We met when I worked at the salvage yard and have been friends since. In the last 6yrs or so he started teaching the mechanic class at one of our college's. He has had so many cars come in that this dude has either misdiagnosed, messed up or had it duct taped together. There have been times he even turned people away when he found out that this guy worked on their car. Especially the ones who have their car diagnosed and a quote for repairs done but decide to take it to this guy cuz he was cheaper. I dont blame him though honestly.

My shop had the sign you've probably seen before: "The shop rate is $50 an hour; $60 if you want to watch; $70 if you worked on it first" I never understood why people aren't honest with mechanics, or at least honest with themselves about their level of mechanical knowledge. When I worked at a parts store I dreaded weekends when guys would have their wives/girlfriends call about parts. I'm sure they were trying to avoid having to say "I don't know" directly to a "man" when asked about something they actually didn't know.
@jenniferrogers2624 Жыл бұрын
@@fasillimerick7394 in all fairness when I work in automotive there was plenty of guys who dont know anything about cars also. I loved what I did. Where there's snow-cover in Winter, unrefined salt (grit) is spread on the roads because as salt-water freezes at a lower temperature, the snow also melts at a lower temperature. I have a female friend who's car front end shakes from side to side when she gets up to 35 mph, but she says "there's nothing wrong with it !" Yeah there is, it's not supposed to do that

sometimes i think here in germany it is not too bad to drive the car to the TÜV every two years. They check the car completly for technical issues and look over all safety components. If your car failed you want be allowed to drive it until the issues are fixed.
