These guys are incredible. I consider myself a novice compared to these guys. I find myself making more and more parts because of shipping constraints as well as too many other factors that I am not aware of. I really would love to know what the parts are that become the plunger. There are hundreds of those things in different specs that they clean off and turn down to beautiful plungers that accept o rings and hold pressure. Just wonderful uses for old steel.

I have seen many articles critical of "ship breaking". I can't help but notice how much local industry like this is possible because of the low cost salvage steel available. Were this man to have to pay for new steel, it would be cheaper to buy new Chinese made hydraulic cylinders. The steel used in the ships is likely of higher quality than new steel.

One thing that always concerns me when I see the steel that they remove from these ships is that there is always a coating of some sort on it... I don't know what the coating is but I'm sure its not going to be good to breathe it in.. i always envision it being asbestos and the possible impact on the community somewhere down the road... I don't know if they do or did use asbestos in ships.. it wouldn't surprise me.. I know it has more or less been universally banned now but possibly not when the ships were being built

The title says “a vigorous manufacturing process”……… I watched Curtis over at CCE Manufacturing’s channel on utube when he painstakingly built a hydraulic cylinder from scratch. He built it meticulously with ultra high standards from beginning to end. I feel these guys here are like the “Saturday Night Live” version. Joking aside. If given the chance and equipment, these same guys right here and others in the same situation could out do most of the high skilled workers that are in this field around the world from developed nations. They just need a helping hand.
@77gravity
@77gravity 11 ай бұрын
Likewise, CEE is a great channel, and this stuff is the opposite end of the spectrum from what Kurtis does - but I must give them credit for making something that works with such primitive equipment and questionable techniques. BUT - Several times I cringed at their complete lack of surface or material preparation - and I wouldn't trust those welds for a chair, let alone a high-load system like a pressure cylinder and the work it will be doing.

Главное не это, а то что они все делают на коленке , без чертежей и компьютеров. Сварка и болгарка. Молодцы. Потом то тут то там автобусы падают в пропасти с туристами. Потому что отвалилось то, что они сделали.

How is it that these people can do this from the seat of their pants, using old junk tools, working on the dirt floor? I am seriously impressed. Imagine what they could do if they had a CAD system to design with and a modern machine shop? Probably be designing and building some amazing stuff.
@asm_nop
@asm_nop 2 жыл бұрын
The equipment sure is old, but upgrading to computers and software would be so expensive for them. That said, a clean shop and some basic PPE would do wonders for them, and they could much more easily afford that. Dirty tools, dirty machines, dirty rags, loose-dirt floors. Abrasive dust everywhere. Loose clothing, open sandals, welding indoors with a garbage visor. Give these guys some overalls, boots, safety glasses, a solid floor, a fan to weld under, and a trough to wash things in, and their health and part quality will jump overnight.

but they don't.. there is a tail light guarantee on these things but the purchasers wouldn't go to them if they crapped out immediately... it might seem primitive to you but this is how things were done at the beginning of the Industrial revolution... the imprecision is probably what keeps it safe... a little bit of slop never hurt anyone 😁

On the one hand, one marvels at the courage of these poor people to undertake such difficult and delicate work, with equipment of the Middle Ages... in particular, working on the ground, in the dust (think of the dirt in this hydraulic cylinder), almost barefoot, dressed as best they can, and with children around... How can such a nation expect to develop?
