I always like seeing the sharp delineation between 30k and 40k put into contrast, and one such element is the Feudal element. For all Warhammer is described as a middle-ages inspired franchise, in-universe the modern Imperium is more akin to a authoritarian and fascistic military dictatorship that attempts, attempt being the key word because Administratum, total control over every aspect of life. And I also loved that you covered the "Lords of Cursed Tears", with Occulus even slowing slightly when covering the Tech-Thralls. Truly, such a horrid practice shakes a viewer ten thousand years down the line.

Tagma were the elite elite troops of emperor Constantine V of the Byzantine Empire. Since these are the elite troops of every forge world techno empire, they utilized the plural, taghmata. In context, the word means "to set in order". Therefore, they fix the things that impede the ultimate role of the Mechanicum: the quest for knowledge. Which says a lot of how the tech priests see war on a philosophical level.

From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh it digusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the blessed machine. Your kind cling to your flesh as if it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call a temple will wither and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved. For the machine is Immortal. Even in death I serve the Omnissiah. Chadmech for life baby

I find it interesting that among so much decentralization after the Heresy, the Mechanicus was made less autonomous and more beholden to the Fabricator General. I wonder if they eventually killed off the Jovian and Saturnine factions who didn't fall...perhaps roll them into Cawl's faction to explain the foreign innovations

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the "g" in "magos" and "magi" is supposed to be soft, like in "graphic", due to these words deriving from Latin.
@rogerwhite50614 жыл бұрын
In the case of Magnus the Red then the G is pronounced that way but Magi would be pronounced like Mage with the J. It is a good point but Magi doesnt come from Latin but rather is Zoroastrian and would've come from old persian and assyrian , those languages giving us the J pronunciation. if you look at the entimologicall site they'll confirm its zoroastrian origins, and then the greeks picked up the pronuncian who gave it to the Romans and hence down to us. Sorry for being overly verbose. Also Mechanicus organizations follow more greek than latin it seems while terra follows more Latin , though both greek and latin get used in High Gothic it seems.
@MagnusMoerkoereJohannesen4 жыл бұрын
@@rogerwhite5061 I did a little digging around in etymological dictionaries and references, and they all point towards using a sound equivalent to the hard g in modern English. There is a little wiggle room, but it's mostly a continuum from /gh/ to /kh/, with the hard g in the middle somewhere - though there's no way in hell I'll be using a /gh/ when I place Archmagos Cawl on the battlefield :D

If you want to preserve and expand knowledge at any cost you cannot rush forward with bolters blazing and Astartes trampling everything to the ground. The Mechanicum just had to choose a more refined way for their unification of Mars and beyond.

If the Mechanicus and the Imperium went to War with one another, who do you think would win? I know the AdMech are part of the wider Imperium but you know what I mean.
@jesseberg32714 жыл бұрын
Everybody else. A full scale war between the Mechanicus and the rest of the Imperium would be so disasterous for both that they would essentially destroy themselves. Whole Segmenta would be lost to Orks, Tyranids, Chaos and Necrons. Even the Eldar could probably end up stronger than humanity after such a war.

The old Mechanicum's governing system is very similiar to "Feudal Japan". A Chronicler could be forgiven to be confused by such a name, it was a society made in ancient Terra, where man of different kind were isolated from each other by oceans, not stars.

Just how bad were the warp storms of "Old Night". Mars is not that far away at perigee. Star systems being cut off during this time makes reasonable sense, but planets within star systems? The Warp storms would be so bad the planets themselves would be in dire peril and everything in orbit about those planets would be washed away.

I'm looking for some discussion or clarification on pronunciation.... Wondering how Black library audio dramas actually pronounce some of these terms, because myself (an American) hears some of these and think they are incredibly goofy and straight up wrong. I also like buying my physical copies of books and don't have the income to spend that extra money on the priced up audio dramas, though I would enjoy a listen. To me it's chalked up as content creators being European and possibly having English as their second language , though I always joke the English for having invented the language are the absolute worst at speaking it! Conflicts of pronunciation I hear the the most and am the most puzzled by are Skitarii, Arbites, Princeps and Legionnes. I read and say Ski-tar-ee with an emphasis on the ee sound since it's spelled with double ii. I hear Ski-tar-ee-aye (like aye captain) and think WTF. Arbites, which I think is silly in either pronunciation and prefer to refer to them as The Arbitrators, I hear pronounced by content creators as ar-bi-tays, while I read ar-(like a pirate)bites. And then there's the content creator pronounced legio-nays, which I just think is hilarious. To me It's just a goofy spelling and to be said like legions. Also I hear princeps pronounced prin-Keps, not prin-Seps, which equally baffles me....
@UnCivilEngineerIRL5 ай бұрын
Most of those words are kinda Latin, or pseudo Latin, inspired, so that should probably inform the correct 'in universe' pronunciation. The Imperium is heavily influenced by (albeit heavily exaggerated), Roman Catholic aesthetics eg Cathedral styles, robes, even some equipment like rosarious (rosery beads). Maybe put the words into Google translate and set it to Latin 🤷♂️
