You should get a piece of 1/4 inch siding for the side to help keep the heat in the rack system and add holes to the tubs adjustingly for humidity and temp

Yes, those are both great ideas and could work! However I left the sides exposed so that there would be both a cool and a warm side. drilling the holes is also a great idea and is something I would have done if I didn't already have a temperature controller.

If only you lived in UK, we have a brand called prorep which sells perfectly fitting heat mats for this sort of thing for about £15 each, it fits over the whole shelf 😁

An ambient temperature will be ok too, but i personally like to provide belly heat in the form of heat mats or heat cable.

No, the whole setup seemed to work pretty well. I kept 18 hatchlings in here starting from the day they hatched up till about 3 months old and It all seemed to work quite well!

Love this tutorial but when you copped the CVS heating pads and then didn't include a thermostat you lost me lol. Those things could catch on fire without a thermostat and that wood is perfect kindling for a house fire. Also, just order some precut and wired heat tape from Pangea. That way they can get belly heat like they need.

Joey Campbell I’m sorry but wot. These are crepuscular animals. Meaning they only come out at Dawn and Dusk for maybe a few hours. While yes you can use a basking spot, and uvb it’s just not natural. It’s like giving a nocturnal animal a basking light, they won’t use it. If I ever get a Leopard Gecko (I hope to) I’ll use a UVB light, of an LED not because they need it, because to show them the day and night cycle. All the supplements they need is just a calcium bowl, Geckos will literally eat Calcium if they are low on it.

Actually snakes need belly heat not back heat. This setup is perfectly fine for Leopard geckos, plastic thermo regulates extremely well so the heat from that large heat mat will disburse enough radiant heat to keep the gecko's bellies plenty warm. Also Leopard geckos are cryptic animals, they sleep in caves during the day and hunt at night, technically ambient temps are ok for them, they don't have heat pads in the wild, that being said most reptiles do benefit from under enclosure heat sources just as leopard geckos don't require uv bulbs but it does make them look pretty in a glass enclosure. It's really preference.

Heat tape is what most people would use lol I have no idea why he got the CVS heaters. Also, you need a thermostat and the heat tape should be on the bottom of the back of the tubs, not against the back wall. His actual build was awesome but the heating aspect def has some issues.

I'm so sorry I don't think I fully understand your question. However If you're asking how well the heater works it actually works really well! It has a temp range from about 75 to 110 degrees F. so I control the temp using the same controller as the one I used for the incubator. I currently have 7 baby Leopard geckos living in it and they are all doing well! :)

Iv actually owned at least one gecko since I was 7 and have gotten most of them from local pet shops (which you should never do because big chain pet stores never take care of their geckos) but I got the mother that I have now I bought from an online breeder. :)

There is plenty of room, if anything there is too much. If you put a baby gecko In too large of a tub he could wander away from the heat source and die.

Nope, If anything the tubs are too large. If you put baby leopard geckos in larger tubs they will often die because they will wonder away from the heat source, food, water and get lost.

Yes it distributes evenly at the back of the tub, leaving the front of the tub cooler. Which is good because they need both a cool and warm side. The heating pad heats up the whole back side of the tub including the floor so their belly can be warmed.
