The 7 Deadly Sins of Porsche Ownership, or what not to do as a Porsche owner.
1. Slamming the front hood.
2. Using the wrong Porsche vocabulary.
3. Wearing Porsche Stuff in public when you’re not at a race or cars and Coffee and you don’t work for the company.
4. Going to the Porsche dealership for an minor maintenance.
5. Letting other people drive your Porsche.
6. Leaving it out in the sun on a hot humid day.
7. Using an Automatic Car Wash.

"Real" Porsche owners brag about how MANY miles are on theirs. Tossers and ital owners brag about how FEW miles are on theirs. You are right - it is a car - a nice car. Porsches are meant to be ENJOYED - not kept pristine and never driven!

As a 997 GT3 track rat, my rules are: 1) become friends with the Parts Guy at the dealer, buy in bulk, be a good customer and they will give you deals on all the parts, 2) find the local race shop, introduce yourself and bring your car there, 3) remove ever piece of lining and insulation from your front trunk - it nearly doubles the space, 4) I will let anyone drive my GT3 if I personally know they can write the cheque for it immediately if something happens 5) At the track if you can help a fellow gt3 owner in anyway if they are having an issue mechanically with any parts that you may have do it without hesitation - I have taken a caliper off and lent it as I was done for the day because I had another issue. By the time I arrived home, the individual had a new caliper waiting and paid for at the dealer for me. 6) At the track, if the day allows it, I will offer rides to anyone that asks 7) Always search out faster drivers or Pros and ask for rides to learn. Getting a ride from a Pro driver can take years off your learning curve.

Paul O'Neil agreed on almost all accounts...but you should always replace calipers in pairs. I think you would have been better to get your old one back...just my opinion. I like your attitude, it enhances the love of these cars to others!!

I own a 996 Turbo for 2 years, 2004 Cayenne S for 10 years and a 1987 944 turbo for 22 years. I drive them all and take them all to the automatic car washer because I get a discount on gas! Thank you for your video. Sometimes people forget that a car is fun to drive. A scratch or dent hurts, but it doesn't effect it going around a corner! Have more fun in your car, more than out of your car.

Letting other people drive my Porsche. After watching this video, I had to pot my tablet down and think about this “sin”. If you are lucky to own one, I myself own two, I’m more than happy to let a person drive either one of them. Why? I’m lucky. Life continues to be good to me. If they wreck it, I’ll buy another one. I refuse to be pretentious because 1) I have the where with all to get another, 2) my way of sharing a personal achievement, and 3) my car doesn’t define who I am. The real “sin” here is vanity in the guises of resale value. Keep up the videos! I like that you call out the unwritten rules.

Usually, headliners sag because of the rotted foam backing (usually between 5-10 years old) between the fabric and the base moullded fibre board it's attached to. The glue used to hold it in place is high temperature resistant, and not water based, so it can't be heat and or moisture that caused your headlining to sag.

As a Porsche fan boy and current owner of a GT3RS, I have the following thoughts: 1. I let my carbon fiber hood just drop down all the time. 2. I pronounce Porsche either way, and don't care. 3. I don't care what you call the engine, but if you actually want to know, it IS a flat engine, which is different than a V engine. 4. Seven one eight vs. seven eighteen...people know what you mean either way, so I don't see what difference it makes. 5. I'm a 911 owner who doesn't care you call your Cayman rear engined, although it is an incorrect statement. 6. Wear whatever you want. The only Porsche thing I own besides the car itself is a ballcap that was a gift. 7. I do maintenance at the dealership, but hey, I've got more money than time. 8. I have let some other people drive my GT3RS, even on the track...because they're my friends. 9. My car is garaged, but if you're out and about, it's going to get sun. I keep my windows lowered some. 10. I do wash my car with pressure only; no spinning bristles. Just because I know how much I would get charged for a repaint eventually. I've got no problem people clutching their pearls about their own cars, but they should let other owners deal with their cars however they wish. Why do people have to be assholes? Mind your own business, assholes.

I enjoy your sense of humor on your videos. Excellent point about letting someone drive your car, and letting others see what a great driving machine it is-just make sure you know them, and trust them, and in your case, that they know how to drive a stick. A friend/Co-worker of my wife’s recently let me driver her 2013 911S Cabriolet, and it was a near-religious experience. Now I have a bad case of Porsche fever!

Good video. Thanks Three comments. No, slamming the front trunk (frunk) is bad. What you should do is gently close it, and then fully close it with you fingers AROUND the badge. Putting continued pressure on the badge over time will bend the aluminum hood. 2. Full marks for a good pronunciation of PDK. Really well done from someone from MI! 3. I totally agree with letting people that you know and trust drive your Porsche. My nephew is now an aspiring owner because of our times together in my cars. Great fun.

It's all good mate. My "meh" was intended not to dismiss your comment, but to say "who cares which one you choose". Your logic of being over the latch is a sound one. Personally, I may use that IF I happen to have a microfibre cloth in my hand. For the rest of the time, I'll use the badge method to protect the paint from my greasy mitts. :) The paint on my 07 Cayman S is in exceptional condition and I dont want to be the one to spoil it.

Good video. I totally disagree about the "sin" of letting other people drive our car. You SHOULD let others drive it (supervised, and people you trust of course). It gets other people into cars and promotes the brand. What's the point of owning something special if you can't share it with anyone? It's just a car, and Porsche makes a bunch of them. They were built to let people drive and enjoy them.

I do let other people drive my car, for reasons you mentioned - But supervised. I don't concern myself with how people pronounce Porsche. One sin you forgot, as a Porsche owner, it's tradition to waive to other Porsche owners when you see each other on the road. This is especially true for 911 owners. Exception to the rule Porsche SUVs.

I’ve got a “rear engined” Boxster (well rear mid-engined) and have committed some of these sins myself. The biggest one I’ve done is letting others drive the car. However, I only let people I know and trust do so. I figure if a car gets to be such an idol that I can never let anybody else drive it then I should probably not have the car (just my personal thought on it). About the automatic car wash, I don’t trust them myself. This is because when I had a Volkswagen about 5 years ago, I put it through an automatic car wash and it chipped the paint off the bumper. The paint showed no signs of wear or clear coat bubbling before this happened. I think that the car wash probably wasn’t well maintained, but since then I don’t chance it. However, if you have one that hasn’t caused any problem, then I would think you should be fine. Thanks for posting the video. I enjoyed it and know a few folks that have reacted as you said in the video.

maseratichillen I understand where you are coming from. It is more Porsche than the 924 with its Audi sourced engine (after all the early Boxster shared 40 percent of its parts with the 911). I would say that the 911 is the top Porsche (outside of the supercars) then the Cayman and Boxster. Then there are the four door vehicles which are not Porsche sports cars (although they are good cars).

Yo, exactly the same lol. I am glad it is called that only some....times. How about parking front first? or not pointing all the the tips of the center hubcap emblems towards the valve nozzle. I just hate when the tire dealership does not orient them correctly and all my friends laugh at me. oh oh shutting the door from the edge of the window glass. The automatic car wash does not detect a large spoiler and rips it off since it is not coded to the program and most rails can not cope with wider rear tires than 265. Super job though and I liked you video a lot. Enjoy.

I have to disagree... Porsche people are different - they are not supercar owners, their Porsche owners. Significantly different. Porsche owners are people who want their car for the fun of having a such a cool car. It's not all about keeping it looking perfect and not having any miles on it, like that of a supercar. Its a car meant to be enjoyed by you and by others. If you want to let someone ride or drive your Porsche, let them at it. They should enjoy it too because that's what its there for. Also, I think its totally fine to wear clothing with labels on it. If Porsche makes clothes for people to wear with the logos and such on them, then its more than okay. If Porsche says its okay, I'm listening to them. Not other people.

The only sin here is being aware of other people opinions. I can't imagine the master Ferdinand Porsche giving a damn about people opinion. And if we want to set the Porsche spirit as a standard, who's gonna be better embassador than Mr Porsche himself?

I have a Porsche boxter and didn’t realize I was basically a Porsche purist because I cringe when any of this happens the only sins I’ve committed were letting my self learn to drive stick in mine( it was my first car, and I bought it my self so spare me the Dad gave it to me stuff plz) and taking it through the auto car wash because I drove it on a sandy road and the salt scared me so I took it trough a auto was for the undercarriage wash but will never do so agin because it actually knocked my shifter cable loose so I lost the top row of gears 1,3,5 and it took a few months to fix the dealership couldn’t find the problem so I put a lift in at my house( just out side because I didn’t have high required in side) and found that the end of the cable had just popped free so I put it back and add a black zip tie to prevent from happening agin.

Your last comment is incorrect. Automatic car washes will damage the 911 rear rims. The tracking rail chews up the metal and paint if you have custom rims. Nothing to do really with regard to paint finish. I have owned 11 911s, 4 914s, and 1 928. I had custom rims with matching paint to the car and the rails chewed off the paint and gouged metal terribly. Thanks for the advice and I agree for the most part and have additional items on my own list along with horror stories that go along with your list.

the auto carwash thing, just have to find the right auto car wash. Don't go through the ones that pull you through the whole mouse trap. That is bad for your wheels and getting them scratched. If you have an automated that is stationary and the machine moves, that is fine. No wheel damage and no dirty towels afterwards drying your car.

I take both of mine to the dealership for Everything but detailing... I paid over 200K and it’s 2 years old. I find it ridiculous to buy such an expensive performance vehicle and nickel and dime about where it’s being serviced... but I am one of those Porsche owners that’s picky about washing, and paint care, because Porsches topcoat is considered a soft coat and I find that even though it can still be beautiful it takes a certain amount of care to keep that show room pop

All owners of any car should worry about paint. Bottom line you will always have contaminates that will scratch the paint. I hand wash all my cars and use brand new micro fiber clothes and new sponges. I also use three buckets, first 2 to rinse out the sponge before I go to the third bucket filled with soap. This is especially important with black paint.

You mentioned that kids these days don’t pay that much attention to cars, but it’s not that we don’t pay attention. I can barely pay gas and maintenance for my own car getting paid 7.25 an hour. I myself would love to own more than one car. But it’s farfetched, at least over here in Puerto Rico.

“Don’t let people you don’t know drive your car!” I thought this was common sense? Also check the insurance position before you do so. In the UK on fully comp if you let someone drive your car they will only be covered third party ie the insurance company will not pay for repairs to your own car in the event of an accident!!! Also check they have a licence 😅

Good fun video. I liked it. I have been in PCA for over 20 years and like 95% of the Members. 5% are a bit anal, so I just avoid them. Two specifics on your vid. When closing the lid, I have heard conflicting views. One side says not to put pressure on the front hood emblem. Other side says to close the lid by gently putting pressure around the emblem. I do the latter. Second comment is your pronunciation of PDK is excellent. I took 3 years of German in high school and could not do as well. Great stuff.

Im guilty of #3. Lol. If someone takes his/her Porsche to a car wash...omg NO! Just do it yourself and claim it as a workout. Or pay a detailer to clean it. If u do, them rims may get damaged depending on how the wash moves the car through. I also have a Mustang that i took through years ago, the car wash guy backed it into a wall! Never take a valuable car through a wash unless its just a jet stream only and make sure the wash's wheel grippers aren't going to screw them up.
