wouldn't you torso twist to spread the damage? and not have arm-lock on if you've got better weapons for close-range to track fast moving targets or high-elevation targets, essentially all tactics from MW:Online should work here

I have used a hotas set up in mwo, it's not that easy, not that easy at fucking all... It looks like they were given a rather large handicap. Seeing as in mwo the throttle inversion doesn't work so throttle back is forward, and throttle forward is back. I wish they would've given these would-be pilots a week or two to practice with a hotas set up. Then those of us screaming at the screen for their mistakes could be silenced just a bit more.

What i do see: pretty old graphics with bad shaders, weak physics low level of details and 10 years old lighting, atrocious fire, no traces of machines on the ground and grass; terrible sound; no mission breafing; no animations of pilot and mech interaction like entering cockpit, useless rotation aroud to get off a shuttle; dumb ai. I played MWO much and i have absolutely no trust in Pirannha's confidence after a mass of premium content and no real changes in gameplay since release. All they want is your money and dont care how would you play or feel the game. I am a true battletech fan Mechwarrior franchise, mechcommander games etc. I totally recommend not to invest your money in THIS, To force developers make better product and reckon with community. No man's sky is a great example, as it was released junk and started to develop only after market failure. Don't be a cattle consuming everything you've given.

Could not be more excited that SOMEONE'S keeping the franchise alive and making a co-op MW experience, small studio side effects notwithstanding. I'm sorry you've lost hope - while MWO wasn't exemplary, but the gameplay felt amazing and I'm so glad it won't be relegated only to the online matchmaking. I hope Piranha grows, and with community feedback, is able to provide us with bigger, better, more beautiful Mechwarrior.

There's room for improvement, but i like the direction they're heading in. Feels a lot like MW3 to me, which is my favorite installment. Those buildings need to have some more mass behind them, its a bit weird to just walk your Mech through them like they're made out of paper. Also, it'd be nice to see some kind of mechanic that encourages you NOT to level your own (allies) city, just sayin'.

I feel like there should also be some sort of damage done to the mech when walking through an entire building as well. Sure you maybe this heavy walking mass, but you are still walking through a concrete building with steel reinforcements.

I hope they will do something about suiciding enemies. There is no point of a single Locust trying to fight a lance of meds and heavies when it has the speed to escape. Would be great if the enemies would flee when they're gravely outnumbered. Run out of bounds and disappear out of sight or something like that.

the M+KB booths had more challenging AI that took cover and used lighter units to try and bring heat off the heavier ones they were supporting. In fact, the friendly lancemate AI were competent enough to save my mech from getting legged at one point by taking point and drawing fire

Why is it that Mechwarrior games find it so hard to get good voice acting and a half-way decent script? In Mechwarrior 3, people *sounded* like soldiers communicating naturally in their environment. In Mechwarrior 4 and everything after it, they sound like they're reading from a script.

Am I crazy, or have they had consistent success in finding wetnoses to drive their mechs like a day laborer in the demo videos? This was from Mechcon, people paid $60+ to attend, they couldn't find someone who could figure out torso twisting? If it was more difficult to pilot with the joystick and throttle setup, why not use video from the mouse & keyboard booth? (mostly I kid. I'm sure my piloting looks waaay worse than I think it does)

He was torso twisting (though not well) - the issue, I think, was that he wasn't using his arm actuators (arm-lock was on, or whatever the equivalent is for MW5). But I agree with the joystick thing. I know it's more realistic, but there's simply no accuracy with it compared to a mouse.

That's because no one plays Mechwarrior with a joystick anymore. MWO isn't a mech simulator; it's a twitch shooter. This guy is used to playing with a kb+mouse and it shows.

@@oldman747 I figured out later it was Russ Bollock. Gabe Newell was also pretty well known as not a great player. I'm sure if anyone were to watch videos of me playing MWO I look waaaay more like a sibko reject than I realize. But for demo videos of their next big launch product, wouldn't it make sense to recruit a highly skilled player? I feel like people would get more excited watching a really kick ass pilot. End of the day I'm still really excited they are making this. Even if it's not perfect, I'm very optimistic that I'll enjoy it a lot.

Yeah, I know destructible environment is a selling point, but I'd like the buildings to stand up to some punishment. Maybe then you could actually jump on top of some of them. I hope they're destroyed by a small amount of damage rather than just by taking damage. Then you could mod it easily.

Is it just me, or did the first trailer look better then what we have now? That shadow hawk, had such weight and momentum that it 'seemed' real, real enough to simulate something 50 tons running. Further more later down the line, smashing into buildings stopped the mech, damaged the outside of the building but didn't allow the mech to keep walking right through it. They've changed things I reckon, for the better I don't know, all I know is those things were eye popping for me and made it different from MWO. I'm not sure right now.

at this poit MW should be a multi-planet open world MMO where you start with a scrapper mech in the faction of choice working you way through the story and taking side missions alone or with friends to kit up you mech and unlock new tech. They could have invasions from faction taking over planets or regions with PVP for control of recourses, just dont waist our time with tiny maps that repeat over and over

As an old school MW fan, and MW5 having been in development for so long, I expected to feel the impact from a ballistic weapon both from firing it and being hit by it, the clunky feel of a tank on legs when i'm piloting a 20 - 100 tonne bipedal tank, not a whip lash torso swing speed movement, the bounce on the targeting when moving, because yes it would be that hard to target when running, the environment needs depth and immersion, like rain, snow, sand etc etc... seasons in general, dynamic lighting like a firefight at night time with spotlights on, hard cover buildings and not paper cut outs, you need friendly fire implications, hence not destroying a farm your meant to be defending... Of course the budgeting aspects of the game, I want to be forced into taking damaged mechs into combat, missing ammo because you cant afford or salvage any, parts like actuators and heat sinks etc, being rare and extremely precious, this would recreate the lore of the MW period... I want this game so badly to live up to expectation, but what i'm seeing is MWO with a vehicles mod thrown on top...

Thought why it looks so weird and slow-paced - seems that the player doesn't know how to torso twist. And yes, no screenshaking, extremely repetative walk animation, no collisions when mechs hit the buildings (goes through them like hot knife through the butter without any resistance), etc, etc. Almost no callouts, no fire focusing, no coordination, everybody is just running around shooting randomly, it could be presented much better

actualy i'd say you could say they aggressively monetized MWO , as well as you could say they didn't. depending on how you look at it. on one hand they price premium mechs steeply. The game is super grindy so as aplayer you will feel compelled to buy a mech from time to time on occasion , if not always. and the mech lab is filled with micro transaction stuff (all of which is cosmetic). But ! on the other hand . as a free no-pay player you can obtain access to literally EVERY mech chassis and chassis variant that the paying players can get , you just don't get the c-bill bonus for those " extra special" variants. With how this game is balanced paying players have NO adavantage in combat against non-payers. PGI constantly holds events where players (both free and paying) can win all manner of prizes , from in game money (c-bills) , to real money prizes (in the form of MC), to mechs even. that said just the act of leveling up in various in game factions , also rewards with MC and other real money items. So while they do have heavy monetization , a player in theory could play the game and NEVER spend a single cent , yet still manage to eventually own more than a few mechs that others had to pay real money to get. or they could just buy the regular variants and enjoy them because the specials only include a c-bill bonus and not bonuses to combat.

??? Their monetization model was fine, it wasn't pay to win at all, just a bit heavy on the amount of grind required to get the mechs you wanted. For a massive multiplayer game, MWO was a pretty darn reasonable. The worst thing they did was make mechbays cost real money.

Prep might be a bit much for the engine. Step into the mech and remove clothing, put on medpatches, Neuro helmet, plug in cooling vest. Start mech. Ready to fight. MWO doesn't show all of the startup prep. You need to authenticate your identity after pressing there start button.

Watching this guy play is almost unbearable to watch, to the point it's distracting. It's a bit like wondering if someone that's tone deaf can make a great album. Not impossible, just unlikely. HOTAS joystick setup and a complete lack of practice at least explains why he's probably only getting about 1/4 of the damage out of his lasers and driving like a drunk soccer mom.

Pretty cool, I would do echo the sentiments below. The buildings need more mass, damage resistance. I would like to see some penalty for destroying buildings, ideally monetary, and some damage to the mech from walking through a building. Having buildings be 'hard cover' seems silly if you can walk through it, kind of feels like CQB in a pillow fort world. Definitely looking forward to more game play images. Also wish UI had a bit more polish, I feel like the MWO UI is slicker. And they do have time to add the polish.

I think it's looking great so far. Sure there are some places for improvements but I think they're getting a solid foundation of gameplay here. I thought it was awesome seeing individual rooms in the building while you're crashing into them. I would like to see more environmental effects to bring the visuals together. It would be cool seeing more of the debris on the floor after a arm has fallen off or a building falls apart. But at the same time, a game like this is most probably very CPU intensive with pixel perfect collision/damage, so that may be the trade off. I like to see that they're actually using a joystick and not a mouse like MWO. Lets not forget as well this is supposedly a fully mod-able game from what I've heard. So damage from buildings, speed of movement, even general effects could change per mod. I'm not okaying it not to be a fully flushed out game before launch, but making a game fully mod-able is a big undertaking. I am most definitely excited for this title coming out and look forward to seeing more. I even prepared my steel batallion controller for my PC just for this game.

Is it just me or do those missiles slide onto the target? Is the voice acting a bit stiff? Is there an odd lack of connection between structures and the ground they sit on? Does the world lack ambient lighting and shadow effects? Find out what gets fixed next year on release!

Let's be fair here while yes the dude has two flight sticks and has no idea what he's doing but. On the damage and arcade argument, The demo is probably being played on the games most default difficulty just to show off the gameplay. From a mech fan who has been waiting for a long time this game has me excited. As long as there's no hidden lootboxes or micro transactions I'm happy. It appears the devs have taken the time to put a lot of care into this title rather then rush it out. So I hope it shows in the final product. Scorched earth Motherfucker!

True - MW3 wins again, IMO. By today's standards the graphics seem horribly antiquated but at the time the articulation of the 'mechs and the 3D graphics were simply mind-blowing. The walking and rocking, the sense of scale (approaching the barracks area in Op1 pt. 2 for instance) was absolutely bang-on. You FELT like you were in 55 tons of walking death. After destroying the decoy 'mech factory I'd ALWAYS walk back to the beginning of the mission - several miles - just to enjoy the scale of the area and the scenery - and to watch 'Gunner' Paine bang into every damn building on the way, of course. ;)

Couldn't help but notice the AI just kinda runs in circles, not aware of buildings or enemies..or friends. Seems pretty stupid as far as NPC's go. How are they gonna provide a good challenge for not 1, but 4 human players who EASILY outmatch the AI?

Yep this is my biggest concern with all of the game play clips they've released so far, the AI programming looks terrible/not even really implemented. Here's to hoping they'll spend plenty of time on that feature until it's amazing.

How many singleplayer MechWarrior games have you played? In Mech2 the AI was pretty terrible, and in Mech2: Mercs you could literally find the AI mechs and kill them before they "activated." Mech3 I've heard is more challenging but not much so, though I hear Pirate's Moon is pretty dang hard. All the Mech4 AIs are bad as well. But these games are really old, over 20 in the case of Mech 2, and nearly 20 for Mech4. Modern AI should be better.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt melee combat is going to enter this game. We definitely would have heard about it by now. That's a huge game-changer for mechwarrior, so it would have been a "highlight" of the game that they would relentlessly advertise. I wish melee was a thing though.

Anyone know what the HOTAS setup he's using is? Looks like fun! I always preferred playing the sim Mechwarriors (not MWO) with HOTAS for that immersion, but would always get slaughtered by people playing with mouse aiming. Wonder if they restricted aiming from mouse, or made it slower to aim?

I have but one major question. How the hell did the other 3 get repairs?! I mean we can see Russ drag his thunderbolt into the garage but what about the other 3? He just leaves the garage whilst all 3 are in a huddle about 200 meters behind him, but once he leaves everyone seems to of had their armour replaced? 0_0 i hope this was only done for demonstration purposes rather than being a thing that your allies are able to magically heal themselves when you go for repairs lol xD Otherwise the game is looking solid, just a bit of polishing needed. Cant wait till Sept 10th 2019!!! 07

Given the player models and FPS gameplay, is there any plans for a full combined arms gameplay, with as small as infantry/power armor fighting, up to different vehicles like tanks, and maybe even Aerospace? Smashing through buildings should slow mechs down, they kind of just fall apart like cobwebs.

Ok while not the most skilled meching i've ever seen this does give me a wilted olive branch of sorts. While certain issues I had at it's initial reveal have been improved there are still problems that keep this from being a great Mech Warrior SIMULATOR title.(keyword simulator) while the twitchyness of the aiming seems to have improved we're still missing IMPACT. When I get shot by dual PPCs I want to feel like a train just went through my chest. First of all, big weapons need to do more damage. PPCs, Gauss Rifles, the big Auto Cannons, need to make your Mech REEL with the shock of impact. If an alpha strike hits your left arm it shouldn't just fall off, your torso should spin to the left due to the impact of 25 tons worth of ammo that just erased your left arm from existence. Speaking of impact...you can't just stroll through a small building, I don't care what your tonnage, walking through that is gonna at LEAST slow you down. It's concrete and steel cmon To summarize it's far from done but, so far I like the changes between the reveal gameplay and this. It's coming eventually; cmon and make it boner worthy. I'm starting to think Piranha just might have it in 'em.

Depends who got it. If it was a big publisher it would be a live service game riddled with microtransactions and would be about 60% of a game, until they crap out expansions that fill the other 40% down the line.

@@user-kj4od7ig3t nah. Mwo has sustained player base that means if you drop for a public game, you will either get one straight away or in a few seconds. Steam client average players online is 635, at least double that for the non Steam client. Basically you get a match, always. Lag is also not as much of a factor in this game.

I used to play Mechwarrior Living Legends a lot. It was awesome, in that it was combined arms combat. In addition to mechs, there was powered armor, tanks, hovercraft, vtols, and aerospace fighters. It was while playing that game that I realized mechs, while looking cool, are, in fact, stupidly impractical. I remember on one map driving a Demolisher tank with dual AC-20 autocannons. I drove to an area of the map where I expected the enemy to approach, went to passive sensors and hid in some bushes, waiting in ambush. A 100 ton Atlas strolled by, and I opened fire when he came into range. The silhouette if a 30+ foot tall mech is ridiculously easy to spot. The Atlas was staggering around trying to find where I was firing from. By the time he had detected me, I had shot one of his arms off, and he was on fire. He only got a few shots in before I finished him off. The Demolisher with the dual LBX-20 autocannons was devastating against light mechs on urban maps. I drove mechs in that game too, but tanks were VERY competitive. They sit low to the ground, making them hard to spot, and they make a smaller target. In MWLL you earned C-Bills by doing damage to the other team, and from scouting. When you earned enough C-Bills, you could buy a better vehicle. I would often just stick with a tank, and give my money to other players. In other versions of Mechwarrior, tanks are like toy cars. They are NOT to scale. I don't know what future combat will look like, but I don't think it will involve 30 foot tall robots. I would expect powered armor, but not mechs. And tanks will be around for a looooong time. At least Robotech was on point. Every time they showed destroids in that show, they were getting the shit blown out of them.

Realistically future combat will probably just look like swarms of drones and nanomachines that target specific individuals in a very efficient and relatively collateral free way, as well as lasers fired from satellites in orbit that cut through 10 meter thick uranium armor in less than a second. Big stompy mechs don't make any sense, but they are fun.

There is no weight to the mechs when they move, they feel like they just sliding around, no heavy impact for when a mech slams into the ground, LRM's should be returned to stream fire like before, weapon feed back is not satisfying, missiles and AC feel like pop guns especially those SRM's, tho I will say improvement has come on, but you still got a ways to go, even some inertia will go a lot way to portraying some form of weight, have the buildings feel impact full not gliding through it like butter, there is a scene where a scorpion tank actually drives through a 1/3 of the building, that is telling me the mere touch of any thing and the building comes down.

As it is now when you walk into another mech it does negligible damage to both mechs legs. It's more about how that mechanic would work. Would you lock into an animation with another mech or would you simply swing your arm at them like in first person shooters. If you swing your arm how will collisions interact, where will it apply damage? Will it even look realistic or would it instead look like a movie with bad camera angles during a fight scene? "and as i said above the 2 mechs with noticeable melee attacks also have ranged weapons..." If they start marketing the Hatchetman then certain players will assume that means melee will be added. They will then feel offended when they find out that it isn't. And why must these mechs be added? Any other mech that is pre or mid civil war is valid to be added. One that I thought would've aligned with yours with them including your demands in MW5 but it turns out they didn't. "or accurate portrail of what mechwarrior and battletech should be..." MWO at it's core will probably never appeal to your vision of what Mechwarrior and Battletech should be. To me I see two sides to the Mechwarrior community. That way both sides interests do not conflict.

i remember when joysticks were the go-to controller over a mouse... i did way better in MW3 with a joystick than i did with the mouse... of course thats been how many years ago now.. and were lucky if they add console controller support... mouse and keyboard have become too main stream in gaming...

The problem why it looks clunky is 1. that the guy probably never used a Joystick 2. He don't use torso twist 3. Arm lock was always on.. So yea he was aiming with the whole Mech.

@@Eremes_Zorn I've never played MWO - one look at it and it sucked; a few other looks and it STILL sucked - but I've always played with joystick/ throttle and sometimes pedals, when they were hooked up lol. Speaking only for myself, that setup is far more intuitive and natural (particularly given my day job before I was medically grounded). While I think that mouse/keyboard is generally assumed to be 'better' by the newer crowd, I'll agree with you - us old farts (particularly us antiquated flatulents with wings) can make a joystick-driven platform sit up and sing. ;-)

That's so cool seeing that the little locust can actually survive running full speed and strafing mechs. In many mechwarror games they just get nailed by missiles and brought to a halt making small mechs mostly useless, but here finally they can move fast and seem to avoid most hits like the Board Game.

@@Asatur1979 actually no. a stick is actaully how we control things in real life, if you actually learn to use one properly you can get some real finesse out of ti. Just watch professional backhoe operators and crane lifts. Sides mice and keyboard is easy mode always have been always will be.

@@Asatur1979 MWO was tuned for M and KB and is very light on the sim aspects hecnce with all mechs being fast and responsive aside form the slower assaults on the fly, but when we're talking simulators. (wich mainline MW games are) then joystick is the way to go. Its fine if you wanna play M and KB cause thats what you're comfortable with, but you'll be missing half the fun of havin actual controls at in your hands and feet as you contol a god of the battlefield as close they would be in as the books describe them. look me in the metaphorical eyes and tell me that a full cockpit set wouldn't be the most bad ass way to play this game. thats been the goal of th MW games sans LL and MWO since its inception.

PPCs have a minimum effective range. If you're too close they do no damage. ER-PPCs on the other hand...

While the people behind the controls needs to head back to training, this game seems pretty exciting! I'm glad to see there is joystick support with the game and that it doesn't seem to awkward to handle. Some graphics need scaling, and screen shake would be a nice feature. It also seems a bit TOO easy to walk through buildings, but I feel like these will be fixed with time. They still have ,any months of development ahead and I can say I am going to stay pretty hyped all throughout!

A lot of things can be improved before launch so I'm not worried about certain stuff (the UI actually is different now compared to the old trailers), however they really need to make buildings tougher, at least make it so that you need to deal damage to buildings first before you can plow through them.
