The uniforms in this game were so authentic looking, no other game could ever get it right...

This level always made me feel sad as my grandad actually fought in the Market Garden campaign.

Oh my goodness what memories... I am proud to say I have my original copy and I still play it! The song playing during this mission always made me tear up!

Even playing this game as a kid, this level out of all of them had such a distinct and powerful presentation to me. A genuinely intense firefight in dense city streets, contrasted with a tragically beautiful orchestral piece. Probably the first and only soundtrack from a video game that moves me to tears. Frontline was something else, and it pains me nowadays that WW2 shooters are all about uninspired and shallow spectacle. Games can be SO much more, but instead we get vapid Hollywood productions with impeccable graphics that you may get to press a few buttons in. What a shame.

I live in Arnhem and its great to see that this game actually featured the battle at Arnhem It's one of the most Important battles And yet Games like cod ww2 and bf5 didnt even have it Not that those games would do it justice btw especially bf5 wouldve butchered But still pretty disappointed

@@Fabulousideiumn In the original, when you fired the BAR, the cone of fire (I.E the muzzle flash) was far too big. You couldn't see who you were firing at, forcing short bursts, something that could get you killed on Hard mode. COD1 and UO have the same issue

I don't get why it was considered the best level. You run around aimlessly shooting down Germans like you're Master Chief mowing down Grunts in Halo. I think the only memorable part of this level is the music.
@hanswolfgangmercer9 жыл бұрын
Don't underestimate that though. The music, combined with the frenzied fighting and the ruined houses with their poignant domestic detail all create this really forlorn, depressing feeling that is really evocative of an army trapped and defeated just holding on for dear life. Without these touches it really would be a bland level, but these little aesthetic details just create such a memorable experience that it is little wonder that most people think of this as the best level.
