I was 0372 with Marine 2nd Raider Battalion in the Sangin District in the Helmand Province in Afghanistan when this young Devil Dog leaped onto that grenade to save his brother Marine and bestfriend. I remember hearing about it and thinking man what a truly selfless act, but when we heard he had survived it......Brother i prayed every day that you would continue to fight to stay alive and recover. I was honored for just having been a Marine in country at the same time as you. You are truly an inspiration to me and knowing of you and your heroic actions and your fight to survive helped me a lot in my own recovery after almost dying from wounds i received a couple years later. I retired with an honorable discharge after 24 years of service. It started with me joining on the delayed entry program in June of 1990 and leaving for bootcamp at Parris Island 3 days after i graduated high school in June of 1991 after bootcamp i went to MCT at Camp Gieger of course when I completed that it was a short walk to SOI while in SOI i got the opportunity to go to Recon selection which started an almost 2 year training period from BRC to Jump School then Combatant Diver School and then assigned to 3rd Force Recon Company then to 2nd Force Recon Company until they disbanded in 2006 i then went to MARSOC as part of 2nd MSOB until i retired in 2015. I just want to say that your attitude and demeanor towards your recovery and how you stay humble as a CMOH recipient was a big driving force in my recovery and readjustment to civilian life. Thank you for that God bless, God speed and Semper Fi brother i am truly honored to say that i served at the same time as you.

Really cut deep hearing & watching this, I was wounded too pretty severely but I'm doing alright. Better than many are which I'm thankfull of especially those who put a broken man back together just like this beautiful human being. I'm blessed to be here like endless amount do including person friends an I took so much from being in the military. I'm from 🇬🇧 & I was lucky enough to meet many amazing Americans & people from all over the 🌎 something that really hit me hard was the moment he spoke of who was going to love him being in the condition he was physically but also emotionally as I'm sure everyone can atleast resonate with that, not just the injured. Everyone really should do as much as they can, despite how little of a thing it may seem. There's many many organisations that do more than people can imagine but everything counts it really does. What a beautiful man he is inside & out an as his book says everyone is worth it. I want to wish everyone who reads this a wonderful day & life wherever & whoever you may be! Just want to ask one thing an it's to donate just a tiny bit to a organisations who help amazing people like the man you were watching, you will be blessed in return for your act of kindness as everything from Psychiatrists to Surgeons an places giving ex military a purpose as too many are dying each an every day because they're lost an have no purpose and every thing costs but it isn't insurmountable as many think. So please if this video really hit you as he said people can't continue helping them if there's no funds, thats a true killer of amazing humans. As they aren't able to help an put people physically an mentally broken back together. much love to everyone I hope you are having a wonderful 2022!! 😀 & if you do choose to be a part of helping people like him & me then thank-you so much, it's amazing feeling like you actually made an impact to a life of those protecting all of us around the world. ❤ Peace out my friends 🙏

Man I was 10 when Kyle did this stuff. I’m now in the army as a squad leader and haven’t seen any combat or even a deployment. Kyle is a brave man and an absolute savage. He’s the type of guy that made me enlist and serve my country. What an absolute killer of a man. He’s what every young infantryman hopes to even slightly embody. A true inspiration into what selfless service for your country is.

This man, this Marine has lived every aspect of the ethos espoused by the Corps. I have twin 4 1/2 year old boys. I would hope for them to grow into the man that Kyle Carpenter is. And, above all the magnificent aspects of this man's character, I believe his humility and down to earth demeanour is the most endearing of all. There's too much chest thumping and disrespectful behaviour in today's society. Everybody should watch and listen to this man talk. I myself became a Marine in 1987. Semper Fi Kyle Carpenter. God Bless.

Stay Strong, Kyle!! 💪😎 Those Marines that wrapped up the Legs of the Casualty, imagine when they heard that it was their instinctual first aid that both slowed the bleeding from the grenade AND deflected the Morphine syringe that would have killed him. Those Marines must have instantly had a very intense recognition of respect for their Brotherhood, their training, and their Heart's as Men, and as Marines.
