The lethality problem is one of modern warfare. In the classic symmetric war scenarios lethality is less important than armor penetration, precision and reach. And - at least on paper -the german Bundeswehr is primarely a defensive force and therefore equipped for something like the 3. world war. Today the MP7 is an interesting gun, but for its intendet purpose it was even better.

@808INFantry11X
@808INFantry11X 6 жыл бұрын
I used to favor the P90 myself but the MP7 actually holding one I can see why its preferred because its design is much more compact and it's good to use alongside another long arm like I noticed Navy Seals used this alongside the MK11 and HK417 without weighing the operator down much more.

P90 is by far the better gun. It is the most lethal gun you can take until it's effective range of 200m while the MP7 is a simple PDW with a niche role. The MP7 is a another pistol replacement while the P90 takes the role of your main gun - it reduces it's weight, inreases the capacity, keeps the damage model and makes it twice as compact

@CPHannigan
@CPHannigan 9 жыл бұрын
CKshouta Not exactly. It's absolutely critical that a PDW be compact and extremely maneuverable, which the A17 is not. The A17 is a plinking/varmint rifle, and is nowhere near being classified as a PDW.

Actually that round is designed to tumble upon impact just as the 5.56 creating mass damage so one shot WILL stop a threat.
@Still-ill-Trill
@Still-ill-Trill 4 жыл бұрын
Lol what? No it isn't. It's armour penetration in it's design. Only with amazing shot placement will a 4.6 stop someone in one shot. 4.6mm is the equivalency to a bbq skewer. Literally all users of the Mp7 burst into targets to ensure a kill. One 4.6 will kill, but it will take a long time for the target to die.
@ТошкаСухарь-э7и
@ТошкаСухарь-э7и 3 жыл бұрын
@@Still-ill-Trill maybe you are talking about different types of 4.6 AP rounds are certainly designed for defeating body armor, but there is a hp ammo to mess with soft tissue
@Still-ill-Trill
@Still-ill-Trill 3 жыл бұрын
@@ТошкаСухарь-э7и i understand that there are different ammo types. I have shot an MP7 and still have the target left over. The holes are literally the same size as bbq skewers. Only through extremely good shot placement will a 4.6 kill in one shot. Due to the little recoil, its just much easier to burst a target to ensure a good effect. This is relevant to both ap and hp ammo. There are accounts of SEALs using MP7s and stating that they just burst fire a few rounds to make sure
@oldls7t_211
@oldls7t_211 2 жыл бұрын
One shot 4.6 won't down anyone unless it hits in the face, but the whole one mag to drop someone thing is bullshit aswell, in terms of tumbling every bullet starts to tumble in soft tissue some more some less, but what light and fast projectiles do is fragmenting when they hit something and that does a lot to a body, armor penetration is kind of a tricky one, while the 4.6 rounds are certainly better for the job than the 5.7 due to bullet construction it still won't fuck up plates easily so you're limited to soft armor with a thin plate in front.

I'm not sure if I understood the explanation correctly here... The original reason to build that weapon was to have a sidearm for vehicle drivers of the german military of vehicles with not much space (tankdrivers and fighterpilots for example) and as defence weapon of infantry of portable big weapons like AT lounsher....with ammo bigger than 9mm (MP5). It was part of the program IdZ ("Infanterist der Zukunft"... like the future worrior program) of the german military. The only fair comparison is against the MP5. Becaue it was the original goal to replace the MP5 with the more compact MP7. And the reason of the compactness Was not concealment... it was designed so the soldiers/pilots can put it into a holster at the body, so it does not hang arround while not in use. Both were not designed to get an opponent down with one shot in self defence... unless aimed correctly (head). It is ment to be a full auto capable sidearm. So special ops personal just did not understand the design purpose of that weapon. They use it as offensive weapon... but it was designed as defensive weapon.

I was wondering if Larry was going to mention the proposed HK UCP design, which was essentially a USP series pistol chambered in 4.6mm. It's not a very well known design seeing as it didn't make it out of infancy, however it would have been cool - I just feel that they probably realized that FN had the market cornered in this area with the FN 5-7.

The MP7 the design much more collapsible being able to used as a PDW for marksman and snipers on the team I worked alongside some Navy Seals and saw they used it alongside the MK11 and HK417 during this time and it really didnt get in the operators way all that much which made me see why its preferred.

@@MrElias2043 the Bullpups are pretty impressive on what they are capable of doing but because of where the Ejection port was located for most of them left it mostly a right handed weapon and that was non starter. As well during the time the M4 series was becoming more modular then most Bullpups at the time especially in regards to mounting Grenade launchers without the need of an armorer. Now days there has been much more improvement in the Bullpup weapons but they are not clearly more effective then AR platform they are just on par with each other. I know myself personally I prefer the AR because loading from the front is significantly quicker when I timed myself alongside when I tried with Famas G2. Still respectable weapons but that's just my perspective on why the Bullpups dont rule the world.

One thing I never understood. Instead of making these micro rifle rounds. Why not just take from what is already made. Like 357 sig cartridges with spitzer projectiles?? Get the heavier grains but with pretty good velocities and reliable feeding. With this kind of round velocities at or around 1500fps creates a deeper penetration which is needed for humans. Sometimes faster is not always better. It is just a thought in my head right now from watching these micro calibers.

According to the numbers that came from the testing via NATO, I recall that the 5.7 round was better then the 4.7 The problem was that out of a handgun it was meh and out of a P90 it was only slightly better or slightly worse against body-armor. So oddly enough the Russian 9x19 +p+ is actually considerably better.

BTW, I noticed in your display of military cartridges you skipped over the 5.7 x 28. Hmmmm... If I had to bet my life on a semi-auto (civilian accessible) sub gun I would stay with my FN PS90 over any other INCLUDING the H&K MP7. i feel my carbine is much more ergonomic and the 5,7 x 28 is a more effective cartridge than the 4.6 x 30. Let's face it, the H7K MP7 is Germany's "hissy fit" reaction to the FM P90. It's a not a great substitute to the P90 - period.
@Still-ill-Trill
@Still-ill-Trill 4 жыл бұрын
It's a great substitute to the P90. Better ergonomics/intuitive with the selector switch, WAY better trigger, better switch placement for anything you put on a rail like lights, PEQ units etc. Grip angle suits more users, faster magazine changes, more rail space real estate, sliding adjustable stock which allows greater compact use/adjustable length of pull. Granted, the stock isn't fantastic and the 4.6 is worse than the 5.7 but in practical applications, the MP7 is more user friendly, more versatile, more compact and there is a reason SF use it more than the P90

FPS/war-simulator type video games that use REAL weaponry should ALWAYS have access to actually shoot as many if not ALL weapons they're putting into their game. If not, they MUST have a group dedicated to researching and studying EVERY single potential weapon to be put into the game. Also, the weapons need to be modeled after the REAL weapon and not some airsoft model which happens A LOT. I'm surprised weapon manufactures not send developers a T&E gun to use for modeling and other research, especially when the developers have a contract to use actual name brand designations, etc. Like how the Goldeneye series had with Walther.

+Thefreedog56 an easy mistake, but it's annoying whenever game makers have the audacity to take an AKS-74u and call it "ak74u" and put in the "submachine gun" category. it's silly

Half a mag to stop someone? 20,30 or 40? They must mean full auto because...damn! H&K must hear a cash register clink every time their thing goes off. Good thing 4.6 is super light!

What if they always showed only the barrel/trigger mechanisms and such instead of the outside parts of guns when they showed different guns? LOL I imagine the only major differences between weapons from different companies would come down to something like this...." well yours has a plain'ol black trigger.....yeah....and mine has a black and red one....that's right! You wish you were me!" Lol

Dudes an older retired Delta vet. Put that Mp7 in the hands of a current serving operator and you'll cut that time down fast whilst increasing round count on target
