Red and black, or red and small amount of ultramarine. This makes a chocolate brown. You can also use orange instead of the red, but it makes a lighter brown.

One day I'll actually try and make my own colors rather than using out of the bottle ones. I guess that is a perk of doing paint pouring like I do. The colors mix themselves. Loving these color mixing videos by the way. Have you tried putting together a cheat sheet info-graphic for us newbies? Maybe as lead magnet?
@ChrisBreier4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, I have an acrylic color mixing cheat sheet that you can download from the link below. I love learning and experimenting with color. I would think that color is probably a major part of acrylic pouring. Here's the PDF drawandpaintforfun.com/acrylic-color-mixing-chart/

@@ChrisBreier how do I download it? I may just be blind and I can’t see it but I looked and I can’t find a download button 😂
Outstanding tutorial. I have 2 small 1/25 scale figures to paint with (enamel) flesh tone and medium dark brown hair, as well as a small cardboard box to paint but have no browns in my paint set. I wondered if I could mix a few browns using other colors without it looking like a cheap substitute. This video shows how easy it is to make an entire range of browns using primary colors and a few others. Now I don't have to go out and buy 6 shades of brown, I can just mix my own. Much thanks.

Thanks for making this video. I'm trying to paint a violin and trying to achieve the right color blend to get the violin brown/red color. Do you have suggestions?
@ChrisBreier Жыл бұрын
Finished wood is a complicated color because the stains are transparent and it allows the wood grain to show through. So if you use opaque paint to touch up an area it will probably be noticeable. But if you’re painting the entire violin a solid color, I would just choose a brown that you prefer. Brown is basically a dark red or orange. One of my favorite ways to mix brown is to add a small amount of ultramarine blue to red. Also, if you do paint the entire violin, I’m wondering if that would affect the sound quality.
@preethishritpv6361 Жыл бұрын
@@ChrisBreier Thank you. Yes, it's not an easy color to achieve. Like you mentioned, I'm planning to add multiple layers of different tones of brown to get the texture. I'm painting a violin on canvas, not the actual violin.
@ChrisBreier Жыл бұрын
Oops, I took that literally 😂 It sounds like you have a plan. As for the brown color, you could start with something like burnt sienna and modify it to your liking. That makes things a little simpler if you have to remix more of the same color later. Good luck!

Which acrylic red, blue and yellow colours should I choose to make burnt sienna and other shades of brown you demonstrated in the video
@ChrisBreier Жыл бұрын
Blue is easy: you can't go wrong with phthalo blue and ultramarine blue. I use Pyrrole Red but cadmium red is similar. If you've seen my other videos, you would know that I think magenta is the real primary color instead of red- so I also add Quinacridone Magenta to my palette. I used to use Hansa Yellow a lot but Golden discontinued it. Cadmium yellow would work too. Keep in mind that you don't need the exact same colors that I used in the video as there are other pigments that would work too. For convenience, you can also start with a brown like Burnt Sienna or Burnt Umber and then adjust it to your liking.

I'd have to see a sample of the specific color that you have in mind, but I suspect the answer is yes. Think of it this way-if you can print that color with an inkjet printer, than it can be mixed with primary colors using paints.
