@Zero I never thought it was western media painting Toyota as anti-EV. It was Toyota's own "Self Charging Hybrid" marketing campaign that made me think that, they repeated falsehoods about EV charging times, even going so far as to create an animation of someone standing holding a charging plug waiting for the charge to finish - no one who actually has an EV does that, but if you don't have an EV you might have believed that misinformation - created and spread by Toyota. The truth is, your EV charges overnight most of the time, and charges while you take a washroom break when on road trips. Toyota's mistake was to stick with Hydrogen long after it was clear that it doesn't solve atmospheric emission problems as it is still manufactured at scale from Methane with CO2 released. Nuclear was the best option for clean hydrogen, but then Fukushima happened, and the electrolysers were always too expensive anyway. To go the same distance, a battery EV uses 1/3rd the electricity of a Fuel Cell EV. But once again, in order to market their Mirai, they started paying youtubers (like Physics Girl) to spread falsehoods about battery manufacture, basically repeating the debunked oil and gas anti battery narratives in order to talk up Hydrogen, while skipping over the CO2 emissions of actual Hydrogen by talking about how you could make hydrogen with renewable electricity, the truth is, at scale, we don't use renewables to make the majority of Hydrogen already used for refining, medicine and ammonia in fertilisers. The reason I think Toyota is anti EV is because of the things Toyota has said and done, this is an observable truth, not spin from western media. Toyota makes great cars, and they used to lead the clean energy revolution, but they have also made some very bad strategic decisions over the past 2 decades. I hope this is their turning point, but Toyota's projection of 3.5 million EVs annually by 2030 will put them a distant second to Tesla - a startup - who will likely achieve 3.5 million annually in 2026. VW is likely to be ahead by then too. This isn't global leadership from Toyota, at best it's catchup, and by the time they get there, they will still be in last place. I hope they revise those projections and move to 100% BEV sooner, slowing a transition to protect jobs does't work, people will adapt their skills to new problems, no reason to take the entire organisation down to protect suppliers who can't adapt fast enough.

i like the strategy but i'd like to know more about plans for global supply infrastructure. It's seems governments are too slow to make the changes needed. So why doesn't Toyota team up with big energy companies to figure out distribution of fuelling infrastructure. Yes it seems allot of countries are gearing up for electric cars but that doesn't make it the best option, if Toyota teamed up with existing fuel production and distribution companies to provide wide hydrogen fueling options i think that way would be so much better. I am the owner of many Toyota vehicles ( currently an 80series landcruiser, 2 prado's, 1 sequioa, and yaris verso and having owned such interesting vehicles as the Grand Hiace Prestige edition (4wd), 3rd Gen 4runner, 70series landcruisers, Corolla station wagon, Paseo and my first was a 88 Hiace. I'd like nothing better than to own a new Hydrogen Landcruiser as i believe that is the best path, but only if the hydrogen is piped from green production sites. I'd like to see green hydrogen produced by tidal power plants. The north of Scotland would be ideal for Europe. If new modern safer nuclear plants reprocessing existing nuclear was is needed in the transition period so be it. With solar hydrogen where that makes sense. Wind where than makes sense and storing hydrogen to to give security of power when production is effected by for example lack of wind ( which is anther reason i think tidal makes a-lot of sense). I could even fill up from my home supply of hydrogen as i'd like to see it piped to my house for the central heating and so why not have home filling also as an option at the point. In short i think Toyota has to offer all battery electric vehicles incase that what happens in the short term future but i think they are right to keep the ability to change quickly to alternative strategies like fuel cell. But i think developing infrastructure will ensure you don't need to guess the future which is uncertain, but you can write the future the way you want it. Tesla has got one thing right in that they rolled out charging stations way in advance. So Toyota you should have the courage to back your own belief in Hydrogen and work to roll out hydrogen distribution, fuelling infrastructure and green hydrogen production. Being at the front of hydrogen fuel production and distribution system would better protect your company from cheap Chinese EV competition if you let the future be dictated to you rather than shaping it yourselves. i think it's going to be much harder to achieve beyond zero with the carbon impact of mining and transporting the raw materials for batteries for all ev vehicles rather than the fuel cell approach. I think it makes more sense to keep fuel stations open but just get them selling hydrogen. I'd really like to see the day when i can fill up my Hydrogen Landcruiser with green hydrogen.

There's a reason Elon Musk doesn't go the Hydrogen route. The guy literally the Chief Engineer of a Rocket Company. Hydrogen has its drawback, mainly it is difficult to contain, simply because it is the smallest element. A Rocket Company such as ULA and Boeing has made Hydrogen tanks, ranging in price between millions to billion dollars, and Hydrogen will literally still escape through those super expensive tanks, creating Hydrogen embrittlement. I seriously doubt Akio Toyoda knows more about Hydrogen than NASA engineers, and Musk benefits from those experience. After all, a lot of NASA engineers switch to Musk's SpaceX. Toyota absolutely won't make a better Hydrogen tank compared to those made by rocket companies. Did I mention Hydrogen fire is invisible, at least ev battery fire is visible, fireman can see the flame.
@johnmason5282 жыл бұрын
@@1ndragunawan Toyota already has hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. All the safety requirements have been met so must have solved any of the issues you point too. The reason they haven’t taken off as the main solution isn’t that, it’s infrastructure. I believe Toyota is correct to keep its options open and to adapt to change their solutions quickly for this different market infrastructures and purchaser demands. But my bet is hydrogen will win out in most places eventually.

@@johnmason528 Toyota Mirai literally has maximum 15 years tank lifespan. You can convert end of life ev battery for home energy storage, since it is still about max 80% of it's rated capacity. It is simply a physical problem, you can reduce the rate of hydrogen embrittlement, but it will still happens. It happens both at the car and the Hydrogen refueling station. Those station needs regular refueling even if with low usage. Fuel Cell still makes a lot of sense for stationary locations or ships trains. Even Semi truck is not really feasible, Nicola kinda proved that by never releasing their Fuel Cell Semi for the public, and now they are being investigated by SEC for fraud. I am Japanese.I will show you Japanese😂😂 Toyota has come up with a "real strong man" strategy of getting serious in all directions. There were some people who thought that they could stop Toyota by destroying hybrids, but of course this is what happens when you have no choice but to get serious with a company that builds cities to make cars. Internal combustion, hybrids, FCVs, EVs, they're all coming for you. Toyota said, "Okay, okay, if you guys want to shift to EVs so badly, I'll show you how serious I am. If you guys want to shift to EVs so badly, I'll show you how serious I am. They are going to slap the countries and manufacturers who think that shifting to EVs will be a game changer. The game changer for European hegemony is not going to work for Toyota.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

There are no more Z prefix engines at Toyota.🤦♂️🤦♂️ 1JR-GSE would've been that I6.
@marmar71053 жыл бұрын
@@jmin8400 sadly no. all of toyotas dynamic force engines have the displacement in the name now. v35a, G16, etc
@jmin84003 жыл бұрын
@@marmar7105 Exactly, that's my point and good expansion on that. 3JZ is a very dated suggestion/joke, which never would exist in newer Supra, as the final Z prefix Toyota longtidunal engines were last introduced in 2000 as 3UZ LS 430. I think RX 330 3.3L V6 was the last Z engine in 2003. Since January 2003, it's been R prefix nomenclature in 1GR, then 1UR in 2006. Since Dynamic Force in 2015-16, even the prefix R is already phased out. 1JR would have made sense anytime between 2003 and 2019, if not a Dynamic Force engine like NA A25A-FXS or FI V35A-FTS or T24A-FTS. No one knows why the I4T starts with T, while the TTV6 starts with V and I3T with G. So an I6 is unknown in terms of prefix. We both agree, 3JZ is some dated BS, that wouldn't even exist past 2002-03
@jmin84003 жыл бұрын
@@marmar7105 To correct myself, the last Z block engine variant was the RX 400h in 2005, based on the transverse 3.3L 3MZ engine introduced in 2002. The 2003 4Runner 4.0L V6 debuted the GR block in January 2003 as 1GR, which migrated to the RX in 2006 as 2GR 3.5L RX 350. 3JZ would've become 1JR-FE/FSE or 1JR-GSE nearly a decade ago, so I don't understand the 3JZ comments at this point. J30A-GTS maybe for Dynamic Force I6T?

I have been a Toyota fanboy for 35+ Years. I ran a performance shop building Supras, and other Toyota/Lexus vehicles for 18+ years. I have friends who work at Lexus/Toyota. Interesting message from a friend who is an insider: "Real windshields are see-thru." Based on the information presented here, if all goes according to plan Toyota will be 100% BEV by 2035, and have 1M 100% BEVs being produced annually by 2030. So in 9 years they will be (as far as 100% BEVs are concerned) where Telsa is now. That's is Toyota admitting they are 9 years behind Tesla. At least Lexus is getting rid of that horrendous "predator grille", thank goodness. I couldn't take Lexus seriously with that hideous thing on the front.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I am writing to you from Germany. I now want to order a BZ4X, but it has a major disadvantage. The charging power AC is currently 6.6 kW. If you could increase that to at least 11kW it would be perfect because all new cars have a minimum of 11kW. With 6.6 kW, it takes a long time to charge the battery. Please forward this feedback to Toyota headquarters. Kind regards mahin
