Alibaba is wholesale, AliExpress is retail to order individual products and the whole ghost city means no one moves in until everything is complete including the infrastructure to a certain high standard in China. We in Australia can dream of everything being top notch until we move into a Newley developed area in Australia. It's like saying parts of Southwestern Sydney like Catherne Fields and Leppington is a ghost town because they have not moved in before most of the infrastructure is not 100% complete.

I talked to someone who lives in Xian about this. She said both neighbors of the underground parking space her family owns are planning to install chargers, but they talked to her husband first. The idea being that if he doesn't object, it will lessen their liability, on the off chance that there cars catch on fire while charging. This is an anecdotal story that makes me think their may be some concerns about EVs in underground garages in China, but certainly nothing like an outright ban. Also charging in an underground lot is the only practical method of home charging, for the vast majority of Chinese people.

A chain aint stronger than its weakest link. I've seen several products where someone seems to have forgotten something. For example it was no fuse on the thin internal cables for charging a hoover board. A kid destroyed the charge connector by running into small stone. When trying to charge a short-cirucuit occured = fire. A VW ID.GTX caught fire and destoryed a house -the investigation pointed out the 12V circuitry as the drive battery and components were in good order, in spite of the fire. With this said -look for the weakest points. May be surprises like lack of fuses.

@@MissingtailpipesbySouth Korea has now introduced a law under which the manufacturer of every electric vehicle must declare publicly the make, model and batch number of the cells in the battery. EV fire risk is a big one. We should not be in denial about it. EV fires are statistically less frequent than ICE car fires, but its intensity and temperature is so much that it poses more danger to the surrounding. I understand that fire can start after a collision or accident for both EVs and ICE, but I'd like to know the stats on parked vehicle fires. How often do ICE car spontaneously burst into flames in a crowded car park?

@@i6power30Consequences for sure, I own an EV, and charge outdoors should there be an issue. I own a Tesla as legacy automakers have a foot in each camp.. I am only interested in Tesla statistics as the benchmark, and they are not 0. The past 18 months I’ve driven past 3-4 burnt out cars none EV. There has been a house fire associated with an EV but unclear. It is definitely something that has to and will improve… just like crumple zones, seat belts collision avoidance systems keep improving.

Denying the risks of EV fires does not make it go away. Risk may be very small but if one combusts it is disastrous . EV or hybrid. Interior car parks will need advanced fire addressing systems to deal with the non 0 risk . Evs are interesting and part of pollution solutions but denying that they are a risk in interior parking is not going to change the real devastating fires that can happen.

If I were to buy an EV I would rather buy one using lead-acid batteries. These may only have a range of 60 miles and take 12 hours to charge but this would not be a problem for me as 99% of my journeys are less than this both ways. If I wanted to go further than this I would take the train and not have to worry about finding a charging station which would charge me up to 2.5x the normal price for electricity. Lead-acid batteries can be safely and economically recycled, there is no danger of these being banned anywhere due to fire risk and I would be able to sleep in my bed without having to worry about my car/garage/house catching fire whilst the batteries were charging.

Most cities in China contain ghost cities. It is a result of massive over building. Rules in China are not necessarily reasonable, but they will be enforced, regardless, so you can't dismiss the possibility that a rule exists on the basis that it is not reasonable. As to EVs being banned from parking structures, I haven't heard anything about that, but will check local sources. It is more reliable to check such things in Chinese.
@networm78Ай бұрын
China build cities in advance in preparation for influx of population from rural to urban. Most of the so-called ghost cities that are labelled as such 10 years ago are now populated. Is a 9.5million population Ningbo considered a ghost city? Was there over-building? Sure. But you can't possibly accurately predict how much infrastructure you need when planning 10 years in advance. Better to over build than under build. What may appear like huge over building is miniscule when put into the perspective of China. All the construction money circulates within China anyway, so it's practically "free".

@longstops1430Ай бұрын
How old would you like them to be before you believe the stats? Best way to test it would be look at the number of EV fires from cars 5 years or younger and the number of ICE fires from the same cohort. If you could establish that EVs of that age burn more often than ICE of the same age then you have an argument. However you have just presented a claim without any evidence. Perhaps you should be ignored until that evidence is presented.
