How the hell can one call this guy a respected journalist? He is involved in all sorts of unethical and immoral activities. And to add, his wife's father was the most powerful official in Prasar Bharati, India's public broadcast agency. He misused his authority to promote his daughter's career. Otherwise, she is the dumbest person on the planet.

I thought U.S. politics were contentious and polarized, but apparently they're nothing compared to those of India - just going by the comment section to this video.

Rajkiran Panuganti You actually think poor, corrupt India is more democratic than the U.S.? I'm not saying India isn't an impressive democracy - it certainly is - but saying it's more democratic/free/etc than the US is silly.
@IvoryNerva8 жыл бұрын
+Rajkiran Panuganti Overall these topics are too complex for the limited space of KZbin comments, but I'm taking a stab at it anyway. The U.S. is a corrupt and imperfect democracy. But it is LESS corrupt and more democratic than India. Personally, the state of U.S. politics depresses me at the moment, but that's by U.S. standards. I also dispute your claim that living in countries automatically grants you expertise on that nation's politics. Expertise in politics comes from research and reading - activities that have nothing to do with place of residence. It's a classic fallacy to claim greater expertise for yourself purely on the basis from having lived in both countries. How about you demonstrate that with logical arguments built on empirical evidence? Besides, I'm sure there are many Indians who are far more knowledge about U.S. politics than some of the many Americans who are shockingly ignorant about their own country. Demonstrate your points, don't just claim them based on biographical details! I'm also surprised you don't think there is a connection between corruption and democracy ("And, when has being poor and corrupt started meaning less democratic ?"). Every NGO or research agency that measures corruption places India as far more corrupt than the U.S. (although, like I said before, the U.S. is quite corrupt in its own ways). Corruption is inherently undemocratic, as it means policies are being determined by illegitimate methods of influence that are skirting the democratic process. The U.S. has plenty of corruption, but it is not as widespread and blatant as it is in India. Show me one piece of strong empirical evidence that suggests otherwise. "And, btw, you know what, Indian PM can draw larger crowds in US than what Obama can draw in US." What does that prove, beyond that there are far more Indian immigrants in the U.S. than vice versa? All it proves is that far more Indians think the U.S. is a better place to live than there are Americans who think India is a better place to live! Also: "arrorgance glasses" is one of the most clumsy phrases I have ever seen. It is also an unwarranted personal attack when I have restricted my statements to abstract issues.
@IvoryNerva8 жыл бұрын
+Rajkiran Panuganti Do you have any empirical evidence showing that the U.S. is less democratic? There are many institutions and NGOs that measure it. Freedom House, for example, ranks the U.S. as being more democratic. They are a widely respected NGO used by many researchers.
