The singing here is absolutely marvellous. The music sounds as though it were pulled from the heart of Midgard itself, and the voices singing here are like that of godesses. This song truly serves as a reminder to all of native Europe's beauty.

They are truly astounding live. Saw them a few years ago at Leicester Cathedral, and before then at the Tabernacle in London, and both times were simply stunning, spellbinding, beautiful. Their talents know no bounds, quite simply these ladies are majestic. Their linguistic skills are mind blowing, and their voices are not of this world. Incredible performers and vocalists.

Since people don't seem aware: this song is in Latin, a more "modern" version of the Roman version. The lyrics sound beautiful until you realize what they are saying and you have a very harmonic dance of beauty and death- yes I mean death (there are several lines in which they directly talk about the subject of death.)
@MadanaBhatKhandige10 жыл бұрын
Nonetheless, this music moves me very deeply!

Actually it's from medieval poetry. Adapted by Carl Orff in 30's in "Carmina Burana". Extremely slow and sad interpretation. I much prefer it as interpreted Qntal "Flamma". They nailed the spirit of this poem. Medieval Baebes are off on this one.

If you like this, you'll probably like Miranda Sex Garden's album Madra. One of the members of Medieval Bæbes, Katharine Blake was in MSG. All of MSG's music is great, though Madra is the only one with a close sound to this as it's a collection of madrigal songs. The rest of MSG is post-punk music with madrigal influences which is actually really interesting in itself!

Their voices are beautiful and the scenery is appropriate for the atmosphere this music is creating. The only thing I do not like, and it's the same thing among many English and American singers/groups/choirs is the usage of "Italian" pronunciation of the Latin language. Also, another thing about pronunciation is the usage of æ and there's no such thing in Latin. Other than that, I really enjoyed listening to them.
@freestate2086 жыл бұрын
I would not go as far as to say that it was intentional, but Latin is not as melodic as Italian.
@esmeraldagreen19926 жыл бұрын
From a Latin teacher , there is really no correct Latin pronunciation. Latin was a spoken Language for more than a thousand years and continued to be used as lingua franca for another thousand. It continues to be the official language of Vatican City. In nearly 2000 years you can rest assured that pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar changed a great deal. The Latin spoken by Numa Pompilius, was very different from the Language of Ennius and Ennius Latin was different from Cicero's or Caesar's . There was also a significant difference between the Latin spoken and pronounced by educated individuals and the common people; there were also regional variations of pronunciation. The so called classical pronunciation is a reconstructed approximation of what scholars believe Latin was pronounced by the Roman's of the 1st century BC. Ecclesiastical pronunciation on the contrary reflects the pronunciation of the common people in the early middle ages.
@Fritzrgc5 жыл бұрын
The band name is in English. Mediæval Bæbes is the Middle English spelling of the Modern English Medieval Babes. They sing in a variety of languages that include Modern English, Middle English and the vulgar (speech of the common people) dialect of Latin that you are complaining about. That it is not the dialect you want them to use matters not, it is the dialect used by this band of singers. If you really want to be taken seriously, you should learn more about the subjects you choose to comment on before you demonstrate your ?understanding?
