Warren struck a nerve with me because I had a toxic friend EXACTLY like him. He would whine constantly that people didn’t give him enough attention, verbally abused the ones who did, threw pity parties for himself constantly, played the victim like playing a fiddle, complains about the people who eventually pushed him away (including me), acted like he knew better than anyone and didn’t respect any boundary that didn’t apply to him. The dude threw a massive fit because a fictional character of his got voted off of a fictional reality show and harassed the creator, anyone who criticized him for it and threatened to off himself because of it (also began posting delusional texts saying that the character actually won) The final straw was when a mutual friend of ours died from cancer and used that to make it about him.

Warren is what is known as a Vulnerable Narcissist. While having the Grandiose Narcissist's (what we commonly think of as a narcissist) selfishness, sense of entitlement, lack of empathy, and an excessive need for attention and admiration, the Vulnerable Narcissist differs in being introverted as a mask for their insecurities, being highly sensitive to criticism, their narcissistic rage is expressed more through grudges that come out as bitterness, resentment, and a desire for revenge, passive aggressiveness, become possessive and jealous of those they latch on to (usually partners), project blame on others (often in a more gentle approach), have low self esteem, and can seem willing to show compassion but only to serve their own ends (usually the reception of approval and validation).

While we don’t know what is really going on in the show, I don’t think Warren is actually one of the “teachers”, hence his very different presence and Collin being so negative toward him. Though I could be totally wrong

Also notice that many of the teachers kinda target yellow guy in one way or another. Like destroying his clown picture and calling his favorite color non creative in the first of the original series or when the coffin says he doesn’t like his singing, etc. But while yellow guy is the most effected by Warren, he’s targeted in a very different way. It doesn’t seem as actively malicious and begins from a place of “helping” Also unlike the teachers he doesn’t succeed in fooling anyone. His message is less backwards and confusing and moreso just hypocritical, tone-deaf, and unauthoritative. The goals of the teachers are unknown and it is regularly implied they seek to cause distraction such as by appearing in a mirror or gps. The way you described Warren perfectly matches an abusive friend I used to have. He could never take responsibility for his actions, constantly using his depression and anger as excuses for his abusive nature, threw temper tantrums when people called him out for his bullshit or refusing to cater to his massive, massive ego, and at one point when I tried to help him, he still wasn't satisfied and even said something bigoted in a fit of entitled, childish rage. I'm a pretty patient guy, but that was the first time I was genuinely angry at him, not because he was being an ungrateful brat, but because he had no qualms over saying something bigoted because he didn't get his way. When he "apologized", of course he used his depression as an excuse. Listen, guys, I understand that depression is no laughing matter, but this dude never did anything to better himself at all. The final straw was when he said my grandparents were delusional for believing in Creationism, and the dumb motherfucker had the nerve to be surprised when I told him to piss off. After I called him out for saying something bigoted again, he destroyed my self-esteem by saying I always made everything about me, that I was a special snowflake and an entitled jerk. I'm not gonna lie, I struggled with what he said for years, and I still am struggling with it. This just proves that verbal and emotional abuse can cause trauma just like physical abuse. Sometimes when I feel down about myself, I imagine it's him saying all this awful shit about me. But I refuse to think about that worthless piece of shit anymore. He's just like Warren, a cowardly, narcissistic worm living rent free in my brain. No fucking more. I refuse to let him hurt me anymore. He was a worm in my brain, but I'm tearing that fucker out and throwing him in the garbage where he belongs. And after we went our seperate ways, my real friends stood by me and helped me recover. I'm so sorry you had to deal with someone like that. Just know that the whole "entitled jerk" insult was projection. It's what people like him do best. It doesn't say anything about you, but it certainly says everything about him. I wish you luck in recovering.

This guy, on the other hand, always acts like he’s right, and he has a massive victim complex. He thinks he’s being attacked all the time, but the truth is he’s just a bully. He even used sexually graphic insults towards his other “friends” when he got mad. And as someone with OCD, I do empathize with him because he suffers from depression, but he never, ever does a damn thing to actually better himself aside from dwelling in self-pity. When I suggested he get off the Internet for awhile and do something to take his mind off his depression as that would be good for him, he whined that I was telling him what to do. He always uses his depression, Asperger's, and anger as excuses for being an asshole, he has never done a thing to actually better himself. He just sits on the Internet all day, bullying people, making ranting pages on his social media, freaking out when people call him out for his bullshit, and has no remorse over telling people to kill themselves, but at the same time will play the victim. This guy makes the mentally ill and autistic communities look terrible by constantly using his disorders as excuses. He's a fucking coward who can never take responsibility for his own actions. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised he doesn't give a fuck about those communities considering he's called people "insane" or "retards" before, and he's also fond of gaslighting people. Here's some quick thoughts from the perspective of someone who once was a Warren. I was desperate. I used to act like that because I was desperately calling for help in the worst way possible. I was deep into depression, I didn't even know what I was doing. After watching that episode, I started contemplating that confusing period of my life. I realized my behavior was in reality as a subconscious cry for help, one that ruined relationships and tainted my image I sympathize with Warren and I understand his behavior. He is a cartoon antagonist but they made him so human compared to the rest of the teachers, they even started the episode painting him as sort of an idiot trying his best, only going downhill from there which I think is a good summary of that period in my life. When the trio sang their song at the end, there's the line "even the worm in your brain has a worm in his brain" and I think that's a sweet way to humanize people with toxic behavior because in the end, they are still human. I love Warren a lot, he's a great character and whenever there is an opportunity to talk about his character, I take it lol.

Can’t tell you how excited I was for this one since it got announced and I must say you knocked it out of the park. Warren always fascinated me which is ironic considering I despise him the most out of the teachers in the TV show (maybe because he hit a bit too close to home for me considering I’ve had the displeasure of dealing with quite a bit of ‘Warrens’ in my time) I’d love to see more DHMIS videos from you in the future though! There’s quite a bit to unpack with the show and I’d like to hear your thoughts on it!

i could go on and on about how interesting warren is. i feel like the scene where he argues over the speaker and the wifi password is so looked over, but it showcases his personality very well and gives us a firsthand taste of how much of an asshole he is. he even yells at yellow guys brother for being quiet when it was established multiple times that he’s just really shy, showing how inconsiderate warren is when it comes to other people. i definitely had a warren in my life before
@cyanity10172 жыл бұрын
Yea I really agree that Warren is the most realistic character in dhmis, cause I've known a "Warren" in real life, who was unfortunately my own mother. She'd always try to do anything to sway me into actually liking her, even if it hurt me. Like randomly talking about bad stuff that happened to her [ which turned out to be lies ], suggesting we go somewhere fun WITHOUT MY LEGAL GUARDIAN KNOWING, and even would just share stuff SHE liked but the second I tried to share something I liked, she'd immediately brush it off because it didn't fit what she liked. Literally the only reason I'm not around her anymore is because she got arrested. Hell, yellow guy during the episode felt like what I was going through at the time. The only reason I could never get out of the situation sooner was because she wanted to live with me and my legal guardian, and I was afraid she was gonna do something drastic if I told her to leave or that I didn't want her around.

My favorite teacher in the TV series is the coffin. I like how he has this facade of caring, similar to Willy Wonka, which makes him come off as knowing or cunning, but he still manages to be broken completely by Duck. Such a good straight man for Duck's nonsense. My favorite teacher in the web series is the steak. His voice is just so pleasing. I know the briefcase basically has the same voice, but the steak's design is more likable.

It’s hard to get what the moral is, because on one hand the teacher gets bullied by the good guys to the point of crying, but on the other hand the teacher is a bad guy.

Well, his being bullied by the main cast isn’t _why_ he’s the bad guy. Even among other teachers, he comes across as someone who lacks self-confidence and uses brute-force methods to validate himself.

I just love that Warren is together with the Main Trio the most complex and thoughted out characters! He might be annoying as hell, but this eagle has some hard issues and they even give him a vulnerable side by showing, that a dinner with friends will mean a lot to him, and is kinda his biggest dream 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I don't think I'm a Warren, but it can be hard to not beat myself up at times about not having great social skills and feeling like I have to fake being interested in others. I try my best not to be narcissistic and toxic at least, but I just feel stuck in a catch-22 where I only feel motivated to impress people that don't care for me, and push away/feel uneasy for some reason with others that actually like me That was a little heavy. My favorite teacher's Electracy, can't believe nobody's said her yet. She kick starts the whole finale plot being lobotomized a bit, never actually harms the characters (or at least, never gets to) - and god her song is the best with its electric guitar solo. Runner up is the time child for their style and energy

The entire DHMIS franchise is a satire of educational kid’s shows and the way they adults try to teach kids things. Warren, I think, is a satire of they the way adults do the same thing to older kids or teenagers. At a certain point, they stop pretending to try to entertain them and get more directly preachy.

I quite enjoy that the whole "ok stop" thing he does seems more like a bid for attention and to prove he is a good friend (even though he is not) because the way I see it, its poking fun at anti-bullying campaigns at places like schools where they seem to _say_ they dont like bullying a lot more than they actually do anything about it.
@MouseTheGoblin2 жыл бұрын
Also a note, you know how he has his dumb little badge on his chest thing? You know the part that makes him look a bit more like an earth worm? I think that’s just a sweater. Honestly this episode hit home in some way as I had someone who never let go of me since *Kindergarten* Didn't see her for 3 out of the 4 years in elementary later while when she came into comprehensive school like she did with elementary(also tried to steal a friend away who was targeted aswell) because she knew I would be there, I heard from a very good friend that she tried to use them to get me back(which they noticed just recently after remembering) with no success luckily, following me and people I was actually bonded with, sharing rumours and as a last resort trace art to try and "impress me" Anyone who was involved because of me is glad she leaves us alone now She may seem kind until you see her true colours And it's so crazy that this happened during childhood aswell I was bullied by other kids physically in elementary and she just stood there and watched with her lunch in hand, plundered fridges, broke/tried to steal toys, is very clingy and doesn't accept rejection and people wanting to move away from her. A friend who moved away without her noticing even got a threat she'll show up to her bday because she knew for sure I was there with em Fucking crazy

Something I like is how Warren seems to actually know what he's talking about at times, he probably went through real training and was actually hired by Ok Stop, you can tell because when Yellow goes into his mind Warren knows exactly what's going on with him, probably because Of Stop members are trained in how to spot and fix issues of this nature. In fact, it's said he's able to go into Yellow's mind to help fix him cuz he's a Worm but it makes more sense it's cuz he has some training on that

I personally like to think that another reason why warren is so pathetic compared to other teachers and seems to have minimum impact on the trio is because friendship is actually the one thing the trio already have and already know. No matter the hardships they have faced so far, or no matter how they might hit each other's head or insult each other, they always had each other. Warren truly had no impact here because red guy, duck and yellow guy were already friends and was a lesson they had learned better than any other lesson already.

Everything you said to describe Warren reminded me of my former friend (always plays the victim, gets upset when the attention isn't on him, acting like something amazing even though deep down he's a piece of shit, etc). I hate Warren so much just because of how accurate he is to a toxic friend, so I guess the writers did an amazing job with him

@kylestubbs88672 жыл бұрын
No… Warren’s more of a polar opposite. Cozy Glow’s strategy was pretending to be someone you trustworthy, innocent and well-meaning. And she was genuinely good at it, so the validation of others falling for it was all she needed. Warren doesn’t come across as trustworthy, (not helped by the show’s formula) or even mildly likable, so he has to engage with more forceful methods of self-validation.

@@kylestubbs8867 Still, they're both parasitic, so excuse me for lumping them together.

@@kylestubbs8867 They both don't understand friendship from different angles, Cozy wants power from others without the time and investment whereas Warren wants to be the center of attention since he has a grandiose sense of self-worth that's just as self-destructive as Cozy's hunger for power.
@e-122psi3 Жыл бұрын
@@kylestubbs8867 Also Cozy Glow is totally self aware, she KNOWS she's a selfish asshole, even a VILLAIN, who just wants "friends" to empower herself, while Warren's whole deal is being a hypocrite who genuinely thinks he's a wonderful helpful guy and needs to latch onto others to validate that. About the only areas they meet are arrogance in thinking they are much more competent than everyone else and just their general unlikeable air that makes even other jerks think they're creepy.

I’ve had the displeasure of meeting someone like Warren once. When I was attending a university, I lived in a dorm room next to a guy who looked up to me like a brother (I was at least a foot taller than him) and I tried to be friendly with him out of pity since no one else in the dormitory wanted anything to do with him. Whenever I tried to nice to him by asking how his day was he would talk nonstop about his woes with finding a girlfriend or something that had to do with politics and he would go on and on for several minutes and I had no choice but to pretend to give a crap because I wanted to be nice. He was a smart guy and all but good fuckity Christ he was ever so clingy.
