(Ending spoilers below) Great review! However there is one thing I disagree with- the ending. There’s a difference between a bittersweet and sloppy ending. The one of the biggest points in mega was the cycle of life, and how dynamics change with growth. The ending perfectly captured that, and completely re-writes the narrative of the game. You play believing that you are avenging the mother of an innocent pup, neva. But after the ending and credits (there is beautiful story related art during the credits), this whole story turns on its head. All along you were raising the mother, growing closer and closer without ever full realizing how you relationship closes or began. Yes, the spring section CLOULD have been longer, but it didn’t need to be. Its job was to parallel nevas pup with neva and bring you full circle. I think The ending feels abrupt and heart wrenching intentionally; that’s just how death is. It’s not meant to be fuffilling, it’s meant to be beautifuly tragic and emotional. Anyway that’s just my take ☺️ sad endings aren’t for everyone, so I get it

(Ending spoilers below) You know, when I finally realized the start sequence was actually the end of the game, I thought I was a freaking moron because I misinterpreted it, but it turns out it was deliberately misleading. You were meant to believe Neva was the pup at the start. What a game. I'll never forget it.

(Ending spoilers below) Also in Spring, in the secret section atop the tree, where you see all the flowers you collected, you can press the interact button and see that Bruma (adult now) has multiple pups, hammering in the fact that the cycle of life continues, but not in the same way.

The ending is perfect. SPOILERS The ending is the exact moment from the intro sequence. It isn't a repeating cycle like some believe. The pup in the intro was always Bruma & the mother was always Neva. The game you play is Alba's memories of raising Neva flooding back to her when she wakes up & realises that her companion is gone. The end credits confirm this is the case as in the still images we see play over the credits we see Alba's ACTUAL first encounter with Neva as a pup even smaller than Bruma was in the ending. Alba finds Neva cowering under a bush in a rain storm. & if you want even more confirmation that it doesn't repeat, then you need to watch the secret cutscene you get for collecting all of the flowers & then climbing the tree Neva is sleeping under in the Spring level.

The saddest part about this game is not what happens in the game... it's that no matter how many good reviews it gets, it'll always be an underrated masterpiece. People rather play a 100 hour repetitive RPG than a 3hour masterpiece like Neva.

Can’t blame people, 18$ for 3 hours is a lot even if those 3 hours are high quality.

@@enoo9003 People can illegaly download games and most still wouldn't play Neva. It's not about the price. People just don't care about games like this.

@@samus88 it is a more niche game but there’s a lot of people like me who are hesitant to spend 18$ for a 3 hour experience. I didn’t buy Gris until it was 5$ on sale.

@@samus88 yeah and I do agree, but there’s other reasons like the value proposition that affect the popularity of games like Neva. Look at games like Disco Elysium or outer wilds, very artistic and unique but they still have pretty sizable fanbase.

The fact that the creator when makes this games, was in COVID and he had a 2yearl old at the time, the game escapsulates this disease spreading in the nature and the fear of a mother losing her daugther to this disease. And also talks about growth of a child and how a mother takes care and love no matter what.

Youre joking- thank you for this! Imma have to go back, my biggest gripe with the game was the ending. Even though I had a great time playing it

@@IdealPal You don't have to replay the whole thing. You can go collect the ones you didn't get by chapter select.

You have to do a little more than just collect the flowers. You also have to find the secret room where the flowers are collected in the spring level.

It’s telling that this game which I beat in 4 hours and a 11 minutes had a more emotional impact than any other game I’ve played this year. This and spirtfarer are two of my favorite games now.

Virtually none, it's a very linear game. A couple of sections will require you to double back the way you came for a minute or so but it's minor enough to not even be worth mentioning.

@@Ilwenray85 Yeah I also think Gris is more uniquely itself as a total package, whereas Neva feels like it borrows from other games, and those things, like combat, are noticably more simple and less engaging in Neva. Which for me took away from the experience a bit.

@@drakocarrion I apologize for being so stubborn, for going against authorial intent. Probably because I didn't want to feel this huge dissapointment that I am feeling right now. I am wrong, and thank you for humble me. I am going to delete all my comments in the thread, not only because they are irrelevant now (and a bit embarrasing too) but because I realized they are kind of spoilery in the context of a video like this: a review for the people that didn't played it yet. I hope you do the same with yours. Now let's forget about the game for a second because something you said sparkled my interest, and I don't want all our interaction to be for nothing. You said _Why bother with the sacrifice if its just going to happen all over again?_ I instantly replied in my head _Why are we born to die?_ I facepalmed and started laughing, because it just so happens that one of the possible answers to _Why are we born to die?_ is Saṃsāra. But it is not the only answer to that philosopical question, there are lots of them. Would you be so kind to share yours?
