Great to see this drop in time to still pick up with the pre order discount. Not as great as I was hoping but worth a play. It's downloading now... Thanks for the review

My problem with the writing is how flat it feels when you compare it to the team's previous work: Blasphemous. Not only when it comes to lore both Blasphemous 1 and 2 may be some of the best universes ever depicted in gaming, but each line of dialogue and description holds so much weight, is written with an amazing attention to prose (both in it's original spanish version and the english translation) , and it creates the atmosphere they were looking for perfectly. From what i've played up to now, however, this game's dialogue has felt a lot more utilitarian rather than focused on conveying atmosphere, and it kind of disappointed me. Gameplay wise i still have to make up my mind because, while i've always adored games like Commandos BEL/BTCOD, Desperados and Shadow Tactics, this game is unique enough to be it's own different style, and i struggle to completely compare it to those other titles.

Please advice what system to choose: steam deck or ps5? Steam deck screen size is ok? Or big tv is far better ? And maybe touch pads really help to navigate?

I played quite a bit on the Steam Deck and had minimal issues with the size of the screen. I will personally always vote Steam over PS5 given steam's much better refund policy if you don't end up liking the game, but to each their own of course!

Absolutely. Shadow Tactics and Desperados were awesome. Not played the 3rd mimimi game tho

If you enjoyed their previous work I personally think it´s the peak of the sub-genre. It´s not perfect, the pace it´s a little weird and the open nature of it can become a drag if you repeat the same island too many times and not enough of those even with the DLC, but in every other aspect it´s extremelly unique. The change from generally realistic games on the sub-genre to playing with ghost pirates with powers was amazing, you get to maps and there are so many guard and so close one to each other, yet it becomes easy to spot tactics once you start thinking outside the box thanks to all the weird powers you have. But it´s def for people versed on the sub-genre, I wouldn´t recommed it as the first Stealth Tactics experience to anyone, needs to be like your third game so that you have the basics, and then add up on top of that knowledge the things Gambit does differently. It´s one of those games that hurted me to finish cause I just wanted more content, more DLCs, more islands, more characters... and it was even worst since there´s an emotional goodbye message from Mimimi when you complete the game. A game dev death hasn´t hurt me this much since Westood and Bullfrog.

Very interested in this game, thank you for your review! It is a different enough premise for me to pick this up just for the experience.

Love the artstyle, but as someone that is not skilled at all in this type of mechanics, I think I'll pass.

Heh, I'm also a bit of a stealth junkie, so I've got Eriksholm favorited for whenever it appears later in life. I've been thinking about picking this up, Kamibako, or Eternal Strands. I'm going to wait a bit and let the reviews settle before I decide which one to pounce upon.
