Thank you for a succinct review. Re: flimsy front cover - is not actually faulty or flimsy, it has been engineered to 'slot' into place, and is made to be simple & easy to remove completely to make getting discs easy to do. You may not have understood the purpose of the door is to be completely removed. Re: side mounted power supply - I originally thought this was a design 'flaw' because I thought enclosures would sit on a shelf better side-by-side. The side-mount prevents this kind of horizontal stacking which is for heat issues. With the power cable on the side, it prevents the unit from being squished up against a wall or another unit and this physical distance acts as a natural heat sink for all 4 drives. Re: hdd selection - because 4 drives generate 4x amount of heat, I suggest NAS type drives which are heat-shielded vs regular drives designed for desktop or single bay enclosures. I have used my enclosure for 8+ years and the only issue is dusting the unit when you remember Re: this is NOT a RAID box - says so in the product name, ProBOX, very clear vs ProRAID - this is the ProBox version, it is a JBOD box (just a bunch of disks) Re: why a JBOD box? reduce power cables from 4 enclosures down to 1 enclosure/1 power cable - same with USB to machine, reduce to 1 connection. As a long-time owner of the reviewed product, I can say he does a very good job of explaining and the review is fair.

Thanks for the fine review. On NewEgg, the difference in price between the 2.0 USB and 3.0 USB Mediasonic box is 10.00USD . The eSATA feature on motherboards typically present with a much larger price difference.

I use USB 3.0 version in 2013, quite fast in data transfer from PC/Notebook to this external HDD. 1 disadvantage is the DIN 4 Pin connector, which is not competitively priced, if a spare power supply (PS) is required. Do take note of the connector's polarity, when buying spare PS.

Mine randomly disconnects/disconnects USB3. I can not try e-sata as my PC does not support e-sata :(

Thanks for the video. Two questions, does it make the desk vibrate at all and does the computer display all the hard drives at once or do you have to keep switching to the specific drive you want to use? I'll be using eSATA.

I have a glass desk and even with the fan at max it doesn't vibrate on my desk. When turned on all drives appear at the same time.

i am putting one fan in the front why because hard drives are very hot with that fan on the back so i will modify the box to cool down my 16 tb of drives.

Thanks for video - one question. You mentioned in beginning that it is only good for a total of 16TB (4 X 4TB) but all sites selling it say "Support all brand of 3.5” SATA I / II / III hard disk drive up to 16TB per drive, and up to 4 x 16TB". Can you clarify?

I can't say for certain as I no longer own this unit but I remember back then 4TB were the biggest commonly found drives at the time. If the manufacturer website says otherwise, they might be correct.

+Fabrizio Caputo You don't have to do anything, each HDD inside the case acts like it's own HDD. Everything appears as a separate drive in the computer.

+paradoxdesigns Sure, it's a simple four HDD enclosure and does the job great. If you want more speed then there is a USB 3.0 version of the exact same thing (which I switched to as I now have too many files to transfer back and forth).

I am unable to understand why there is a HDD capacity limit? I just want a simply HDD expander for my PC where i want single power unit of HDD's enclosure with single connection for all HDD USB or SATA supoort and it should not have any restriction on capacity here. I should be easily able to swap my 8TB HDD and even higher in future.
