When coding E11.9 Type 2 Diabetes, you must also code Z79.4 for insulin use or Z79.84 for oral hyperglycemic drugs.

Love this idea! It really helps to understand exactly what medical coders do. I am interested in this career. I applied to the program at my community college, just waiting to see if I get in 🤞 Looking forward to all of your codemas videos!👍

You touched on it a little bit near the end but why do you code the CVA and not the other previous diagnosis?

I love this idea. It's very helpful to get real world cases that aren't multiple choice. I have a question about the diabetes. Since it does mention it is uncontrolled, but since it doesn't say if it is hyper or hypogylcemia, we still just use the default of E11.9 or would we query the provider for more details? Love your videos.

I still struggle with E/M 😩. Now For the past CVA, you can code that because of the patients headaches? Or shld we pick it up regardless? I always thought it was what they document in the assessment and plan.

I really enjoy your videos. I am just starting to get into coding a CPT and an ICD10-CM code in the same procedure. How do I know when to use more than one book? Lastly, can a CPT, ICD10-CM and a HCPCS all be used to identify the same procedure?
@ContempoCoding4 жыл бұрын
You'll often have to use both CPT and ICD because the CPT captures the procedure and the ICD captures the diagnosis. Depending on the circumstances HCPCs is needed for DME, medication, or for certain insurance specific services.

I have a question. In the guidelines, it says you can code chronic conditions that may have an impact or effect on the treatment in outpatient settings. For this, case since the patient was on HTN medication, couldn't you code I10 as well because they have to consider that diagnosis and medication when prescribing new medication?? Thanks!
@ContempoCoding3 жыл бұрын
Personally I wouldn't since it's in the patient's past history and not addressed by the provider.

Hey just wondering for your level 4 e/m code how come 99214 was chosen over 99204? I saw the other code lister under the same level. Is it just because you always code to the highest in that level?
@leannspriggs87384 жыл бұрын
I love your videos and I am really new to coding still in school. Question. I understand about the diabetes and the chronic headaches. The one that keeps throwing me was the CVA. Like I said I am only 4 weeks into my ICD 10 class and I get lost really easily understanding what to extract and what to code. So in the history we can code a past dx of something that might be leading to the headaches? thank you for any help.

Why wouldn't the code for diabetes be with retinopathy?
@outofthedarkages290610 ай бұрын
I am currently taking CPC through AAPC and trying to get a better understanding of how to read case studies. All the wording throws me off and pulling out the relevant information is difficult for me.
