Can’t believe I’m practicing the 3rd time of the materials in this channel. I can’t tell you how grateful I am and how much do I appreciate your hard work. I do not speak Spanish but I still make the best use of the 50% English content you share here and god knows how practice makes difference in the interpreting world. when i worked as a medical interpreter i usually had people speak in shorter segments than this

Not everyone does. You have to be ready, but then again you can always ask for shorter segments. Just prepping people up for real life.

@@Interpretyourworld I can actually do this completely without omitting or adding or changing the message but yes, this is how some of them speak in terms of the length sentence, however, some of them do interrupt too and makes it more challenging hahaha.. Interpreter just follows protocols and tools to let that client or lep speak and they have to let the interpreter speak too.

I was listening few of scenarios and Doctor said long sentences that it should be pause on one sentence for the interpreter to translate.

Hi, I find that subjective since I love long segments and that is what I preach on this channel. I believe in letting the people express themselves completely without cutting them off. Obviously, there are times where shorter segments are also needed. Longer segments allow the speaker to express themselves and maintain the same flow of the session, but it can be less precise. Shorter segments allow for higher precision, but it interrupts the flow of the speaker. Whatever strategy you choose should adapt itself to the particular session. There is no wrong or right here, only personal choice. Since I like long segment and that is what I do most it’s only logical that that is what I pass on. Like my grandpa used to say, “Every handy-man has his own handbook”

they are very helpful, i just started watching this and as i am just starting on interpreting is hard for me to keep up with long sentences, any suggestions on how to improve my skills on remembering long sentences? I will continue watching this videos and perhaps with practice i will improve my memory retaining the information.

try note taking. it is a most for interpreters to take notes while interpreting long speeches.

I'll give u some advice mate: 1. never trust u r going to get a short statement, always be prepared to takes notes 2. listen actively 3. only take notes of FACTUAL DATA, such as names, adresses, numbers, dates and things like that, because if u take time to write useless data u could easily remember and fill with ur own words/mind then that time writing will lead ur focus outta the way 4. be 100% sure u have everything u need b4 interpreting, if u r missing some information, don't be shy, ask for it, but remember it's always the best to ask specifically for the missing info for example: ''excuse me sir, you said he would have surgery on november 28th at 9:00am at the richland location, with wich dr?'' You are correct but "Almacen" is also any space set aside for storage like a pantry, a room or a warehouse.
